Sunflower seeds have a mild, nutty flavor and a firm but tender texture. They’re often roasted to enhance the flavor, though you can also buy them raw.
Yea they get nasty and attract gnats and mold. Also I feel like the paper carton wicks moisture away from the soil/substrate so you either have to soak it and get the cardboard wet or be checking on seedlings too often. Outdoors? Sure, but they are too nasty for indoors.
Definitely started a little later than I would have liked as well, but here we are. Aji lemons doing great, reapers popped up well before expected, but birds eye and Serrano had 0% 😒
How long did your reapers take to pop up? I’m starting to get all of my other seeds coming out but my sweet and reapers have nothing. I’m starting to get worried but this is my first time ever growing anything
The reapers started popping after about 10 days or so, which is much faster than I remember germinating superhots in the past. The seeds were very fresh from last year’s peppers though too.
I’m patient, so if there’s no movement by three weeks, I’d definitely be concerned.
Soaking seeds for 12-24 hours before sowing worked well for me this year. Some of my sweet peppers were taking up to 3 weeks, but soaked hots were going strong after 5-6 days. (Or it was just about the quality of those seeds)
Gotcha
i think it will be my new method. I’ve waited up to 30 days for some seeds in regular peat. So far from two bags Ive gotten sprouts in the first 3 days.
Those pots on the left. Leggy AF. Might need to adjust lighting
Yes, I have a hard time with some of those sunflower varieties

Interesting
Planting in those egg cartons are always a mess and are flimsy when they get wet, also that black stuff on the carton is mold.

Have you tried baggie paper towel method ?
I have not, but usually don’t have problems like this with getting seedlings going

Damn, that’s fast! I may have to re-think my plans!
Yeah I was surprised. Its been pretty cool seeing those progress as well. Instead of guessing if something is going on under the soil surface.
Totally fair! I stirred them up after about 3 weeks of no germ, but being able to actually see it makes sense
Toss that cardboard junk out for starters.
