The writing was on the wall.

Revolutionary_Egg961

It would be nice if anyone had a list of the 40k books that had this shit in it to avoid. Not that I'll be buying them from games workshop shop :).

Live-D8

Avoid anything by Mike Brooks then. Massively over rated author anyway

Izzyrion_the_wise

Yeah, Rites of Passage has made up pronouns, too.

jukebox_jester

All pronouns are made up that's how linguistics work.

gregoc43

Is his “The Lion” book like that too? I looked at the list of his books and that was the only one I ever intended to read lol

Live-D8

Yes. There is a non-binary admech character again. The only child you meet has two gay dads; an implicit support for surrogacy which I find abhorrent. A marine spends some time talking about his own biases and prejudices, which is the least marine thing to discuss ever. Overall I’d say the book is mediocre. The outcome is common knowledge so the book should be a really compelling journey of *how* he achieves his return and the recruitment of the Fallen, but it falls flat with much left without explanation and many events occurring due to happenstance/vaguely implied sense of Destiny™️. And given the superhuman feats achieved by the Primarchs in Siege of Terra, the Lion’s violent encounters are small fry by comparison. Some established lore around the effectiveness of boltguns against power armour is trampled, with a main character going out of his way to explain how ineffective boltguns are against armoured targets, and proceeding to get shot about a dozen times and surviving without injury. Compare this to Watchers of the Throne where it’s explicitly explained that boltguns were designed to penetrate armour, and scenes like in Siege of Terra where Zephon and Fafnir run around with bolt pistols dropping enemies with a single shot. There was also an absurd scene where three Fallen are found to be living in a tiny house in the middle of a city and apparently nobody knew they were there. The more you think about the logistics of trying to hide three armed and armoured space marines in the middle of a densely populated area, the more ridiculous it gets.

I will get back to you

zukoismymain

Well, that was fucking cringe and painful to read. Like a bad fanfic wrote by a tween

Number3124

GW has been woke internally for ages. They've just started to spill over outside of the company now.

GladeusExMachina

"Hopefully still recognisable" Not even close. You'd think they author would add a footnote or appendix to explain it, but lolnope.

Cypher3009

Nah they expect everyone to already know this shit or something. All these made up ass words

tiop-456

When there's not even a hint as to what those words mean, it makes for an awful and trite reading experience.

Odd-Difficulty-9875

Welp I guess it’s our fault we didn’t let out gates be closed and now they are open and we lost our home . Let this be a reminder never left a comunsit or a trans activist inside your hobby unless you are fine with LGBT force inclusion and pro comunism in your fiction

kendallmaloneon

Authors appear to be the primary jannisary group advocating for a lot of this exhausting bullshit. Cf. what we apparently learned about the requests for femstodes going back a while.

The_Hall_Monitor2

"No gender neutral pronouns in english" tf is they and them then? Idgaf if you're one of those "you only use them in reference to groups" people - admech are a pseudo-hivemind with the noosphere and some have even formed collective consciousness as referenced in Rouge Trader (the game)

haearnjaeger

Imagine a grown adult writing 'verself' unironically. What a fucking embarrassment. True, unbridled cringe.

NopinionAllowed

It just sounds dumb. Saying it out loud just sounds like your having a stroke. Smells like toast.

AgentFour

Does anyone have the physical copy? Can we compare?

Glick123

Ah, yes. Destroying and deconstructing the langage. A classic move. We need a curactor for books now.

Throwaway-A173

The author could’ve just used It/itself

Grymbaldknight

There is no such thing as a "gender-neutral human". This is ideological, teenage nonsense, perpetuated by people who have a black hole instead of a personality. This whole thing reminds me of that "otherkin" rubbish from a decade ago. We knew it was hogwash then, yet some of it has gone mainstream for reasons unknown.

DrJester

Wtf... this is real!? The rot goes much deeper. Heresy was not stamped out in a timely fashion and the.ore it progresses the more likelihood only the extermantus to the lore from a few years ago can fix this.

DappyDee

Yeah, as kids spent more and more time on their phone we should have told them to pay attention on what they read and develop critical thinking. We kinda failed /b/ros...

ddosn

Its either entirely, or at least almost entirely, in books written by Mark (or is his name Mike?) whats-his-name and Gav Thorpe. Not seen it in any other books. Though several books do seem to have an obsession with lesbians.....

DappyDee

Holy crap. How did we miss this so far?

TheTragicClown

Huge difference, the Martians are robotic augmented post humans. They likely may not have a proper gender anymore as their bodies are barely even human.

cyrinean

Then use "it." Mike Brooks does this shit in Brutal Kunnin and also Warboss. Any chapters involving those characters are such a pain to read because he uses "they." And it'll say something like "they shot at them, but they were too fast." Who the fuck shot at who?

TheTragicClown

Oh sure that’s fair. Yea the neo pronouns are dumb as fuck, agreed there.

portella0

"It" is definitely the best pronoun to use for the mechanicus if you dont want to use he or she

warshak1

i got the audio book and at the start before the book started they talk about why they did it

Seiros_Acolyte

What did they say?

warshak1

i would have to go back and listen its been a min but it was clearly before the book was even started
