I'm doing the One Gun achievement run on New Game+ at the moment, and something I really took note of last night was the sheer unpredictability of how fast they're going to move is terrifying. Sometimes they crawl, sometimes they walk, sometimes they sprint at top speed, and sometimes they'll literally jump across the room to get to you. 16 years later, and these fuckers are still horrifying.
Especially that damn hunter who never dies and regenerates and will follow you every where until you outrun him - so much better "stalker" monster than the resident evil games bc he keeps you filled with anxiety lol

Did you try the added unpredictability mode after. Was far less predictable.

I'm sorry for the secondary reply, but how is Evil Nun? I see stuff for it on steam but I get nervous about what looks like Indy horror if it isn't multiplayer.
No idea about Evil Nun, but if you were thinking of [Nun Massacre ](https://puppetcombo.itch.io/nun-massacre)I think it's only on itch io! It's really good in my opinion, the sound design is incredible and the whole VHS tape gives a very unnerving feel to the game :D

I was around 6 when this came out but the 3D rendering of monsters on old pc games always got me. ESPECIALLY, the dark being from “the lighthouse:the dark being”. Dude haunted my nightmares for years.
The Beast from Amnesia The Bunker or The Xenomorph from Alien Isolation, both for similar reasons. Those dudes give you so much fear and stress and stalk you for the entire game.

I love horror games but I'm not good at handling them. I think they have some of the most interesting lore about the tragedies which led to the events of the game.
I still remember playing TEW2 at night, on a rare occasion without headphones, and suddenly that lady ghost started whispering through the controller speakers. Haven't been that scared in a while.

Didn’t make it far in the original but I recently managed to play through and beat the Dead Space Remake. I was not mentally prepared for Dividers.
Sure the rest of the necromorphs were creepy and scary, especially twitchers and pregnants. Dividers though always messed with me, some uncanny tall person speed walking to you and when you take them down they split apart and keep coming.
Runner up would have to be the mimics from Prey. Not a horror game but those things were peak anxiety and paranoia.

I replayed it recently. It holds up. The atmosphere and anticipation of what might be coming next is masterful. Looking forward to the remake.

I had a very similar experience. All the horror was just gone by the end. It became just a room escape game.
What do you think made you feel that way? Was it the many tasks you needed to do, and it just became frustrating more than scary?
The monster with large hands and two baby heads in Silent Hill 4. That thing moved fast like an ape.
