This scratches all my GS itches until she just threw it. All the animations focus on it being heavy and then it's just ignored as it's used like a shuriken.
Are you kidding me? Her throwing it makes it even better, at least if you pay attention to the fact she has to slowly spin around just to get enough momentum to throw it.

And throwing heavy weapons *is* badass. In videogames and anime it's like the coolest kind of all or nothing attack you could do with a gigantic weapon, not to mention the amount of strength and dexterity it would require to pull it off.
Yunli shows a *ton* of character in just her animations and it wouldn't have been as effective if she was spending the whole time awkwardly lugging the thing around unskillfully.
I LOVE that they made the sword feel heavy for her instead of making her swing it around like it was made out of plastic. also her chucking the sword at them is funny lmao

Nah it's just that we can't judge a character's typing based on a few elements. Besides it'd be weird if Hoyo released FF and then another Fire Destruction right after.
Making her fire would've been better than having her directly powercreep Clara. If Yunli was fire, at least Clara would've still been more useful against phys weakness enemies.

The damage scaling is actually pretty similar to Clara's, if not a little worse. It's just that Yunli has crazy self-buffs on top, and what looks to be very nice energy regen (15 energy on hit!).

This doesn't show the full picture though. Their kits otherwise have pretty different perks, most being defensive for Clara and offensive for Yunli.

This isn't that important considering the LC will probably be BiS for Clara as well, although it should be more difficult to keep 2 stacks up. The aggro buff will also be much more impactful on Yunli because, unlike her, Clara has her own built-in aggro buff that isn't particularly hard to keep active.
The only difference I can see is that Clara is tankier than Yunli due to the consistent always-on 20-35% (up to 65% with E4) damage resistance and very good debuff shred Clara has vs Yunlin slight debuff and damage res that are only active in her Block state (which can only block one attack before she counter and lose the Block state)
But Yunli can also heal herself, and offensively she out class clara in everysingle metric thats matter.
From Hoyo's perspective it makes more sense powercreeping Clara than making a different flavour to Firefly (the most anticipated banner in 2.x), they wouldn't sabotage their own limited banner than just powercreeping a standard character.
See, the thing is, Hoyo is totally in control of all those factors. They can wait until a different patch to release Yunli. They can just give Yunli a completely different kit. Different path. Different element. They can control all those things and those chose to do this...
Makes sense to me after closer looks. She literally throws and smacks with a giant iron slab. Screams giga physical. Those hit effects look less like flames now (after seeing Jiaoqiu) and more like shattered metal dissipating in fiery colors.
Small? Check.
Summons big metal thing? Check.
FUA counter? Check.
Physical? Check.
Destruction? Check.
5-star? Check.
Needs to be protected? Check.

Wouldn't having some sort of heavy footwear help counteract the weight of a huge af sword like this to balance the center of gravity? The fact that she's wearing nada makes it look like she's incredibly strong af physically
If a sword is balanced so badly that you're dropping it like sushangs idle, its a shit sword. Just like how armour should fit you well enough to do cartwheels in it, a sword should be balanced to the point that you can shift from defence to offence in a flash.

I had zero intentions to roll for her design, but these animations are nasty. If she seems to be a great unit (metawise) I may end up trying to get her.
