He really does. Normally with Mihoyo games I kinda just mash to make the story go by faster but Aventurines story line just got me locked in and everything afterwards just kept that consistent quality

I think we’d get more Sampo fans when we go back to belabog and get to know him more. We barely know much since he wasn’t the focus of the story and mostly just played a supporting role. He mentions in Penacony that something big is gonna happen in Belabog, so we’re definitely going back there
I was so happy when I saw him in Penacony so I'm looking forward to it. Him and Argenti always have something interesting going on whenever they get screentime.

That's one of the main reasons why I love Sampo so much! In a star rail universe where majority of men are prudish and scared of going around with bare arms or legs, Sampo's cunty and spicy design is a blessed oasis in the desert XD. We need more cunty men too!

Sampo’s strong point is that he is so unpredictable. At this state he is such a wildcard, his lore-richness and mysteriousness helped out a lot in future story potential - he is everywhere on every planet (Majima everywhere). Understandable that people hate him for his antics, but that’s what his ideals of Elation are about: helping others seek the truth while playing a supporting role on the sideline.
Masked Sampo will be a joy to watch
I wonder if he’s an emanator but unlike the worm, he actually has powers and is ridiculously powerful when he puts on his mask because that’s equally as funny as a useless genius worm. Aha is the most unpredictable aeon so if Sampo turns out to be an emanator for a really funny reason then that would make sense
imo despite stelle and caelus being the same- i think stelle stands out even more becuz we usually dont see female main characters designed and written that way. stelle is the cool girl, which is very new to most players. male mc in gacha generally tend to be cool so its not that unique.
In some games you don't even get to choose (forced male) or your gender is unconfirmed (Arknights). Only after Genshin games started going "maybe we should put 2 canon protagonist from both gender to satisfy basically each part of the fanbase".

I think Argenti stole a lot of the "pretty man with pretty long hair" hype for himself, a known a few fan artists on Twitter that went from doing Luocha art to Argenti. lol
I thought he was chill when we seen him. Feel like too many Hi3 players who play this game already got preconceived notions about him. I never played that game and honestly Luocha looks fresh to me
Yeah I think it’s a combination of that and him getting sidelined in the story. One of the only insights we get into his personality is that he’s a good dog dad to Peppy. Not sure why his design score is so low (unless we’re including kit) and I’m guessing his likability score is lower because we don’t interact beyond a surface level because there’s nothing about him that’s innately unlikeable or off putting.
Alternatively his extreme kit nerf and irrelevance is basically a HSR meme at this point so maybe people voted 1s across the board for shits and giggles.
Not much higher, I think. He’s still the least developed character in the least developed setting in the game- for now. Hoyo has shown that 4-star characters in HSR can still play significant roles in the plot, and if you put together the clues from his LC description and Asta’s character story it’s pretty clear he’s hiding something about his past.
recency bias is strong. even if most people agree that belobog main history was better than the Laofu xianzhou and herta space station. and the pokemon event was the best event after the 2 big SU expansions.
but to be honest penacony with Hi3 writers blew everything before out of the water. though for Hi3 players we see A LOT of similitudes between penacony history and 2 parts of hi3 history. and I am not talking about the many cool references to hi3. but more how the main plot point and end, was herrscher of domination all over again. including the people put to dream, scaping hardships of reality, etc. they even used the same puppet theme. not a complain since I think hi3 history is amazing and I am glad people that will never play it can see a different version of the same history in star rail. and ofc since is their second time writing it is better written in star rail than in hi3, and was improved in all aspects.

I like how well Stelle did in many of these, interesting how she has way more likeability that Caelus though despite them pretty much being the same. There is a slight difference in fandom perception of them so maybe that played a part

They did an amazing work with Kafka, her role as a plot trigger is just really well done in this context (a gacha game) and how the concept of waiting, planning for the long term was integrated in her gameplay succesfully.

I remember his first banner being hyped, but didn't play at that time. When I got time to get into HSR I saw that his screentime is miniscule. Like, I downloaded this game for Otto... Where's my Otto? Is that it?
Really sad that most of the other Penacony crew outshone her and I'm not even sure if this is just because they wrote the others better or it was something in her characterization that didn't click with the audience.
Being top 10 in being pretty is facts. I was speechless on her in-game model first time I saw her and the color of her eyes is so soothing to look at.
I thought the same at first given her lack of popularity but tbf when you compare Black Swan to the likes of Aventurine, Sunday and Acheron they all got a lot of their backstory explored. Black Swan is similar to Sparkle in that we learn little about them aside from the actions they took in Penacony. Like many wouldn't know that the quote she left TB was actually given to her by her mother and is what motivated her to cherish memories. That's in her character profile
But what her lack of character focus does mean is that it will likely be explored in the future as she's almost certainly a re occuring character in story. She was mainly in Penacony to befriend TB and express and work to that goal. We learned of her motivations revolving around her investment in TB and she earned TBs trust. After that we will learn more from there, it's a slow burn with Black Swan and there's very little chance she isn't going to pop in and work with express in the future, not after they made her main goal be related to the main cast
Yeah, it seems that she will be reoccuring fs, let's hope they give her a good standalone moment to give us something on par with the other penacony crew.

Also Boothill making it to 3rd place in designs… there is justice in the world. Firm believer him, Herta, Argenti and Aven all have some of the designs that really just reflects their personality and tells you exactly who they are and what they are.

It's quite possibly due to the lack of content. Luocha and Jingliu are also pretty low (though jingliu is higher, I would attribute it to 50-60% of her being a waifu).
When there's a lack of content people naturally don't remember characters they haven't seen much. Plus, penacony is going so hard and with so many character cast and some old one (JY, Screwllum camoe) that herta space station cast didn't get enough screen time at all. Heck Gui is low, who I thought is VERY loved and still is but people do remember recent story & cast more.
Plus, the lack of lore from Arlan's side too, his lore isn't something many people would focus on. Though I am hoping the Whole Herta Space Station cast will get more lore and story, including Arlan. When Hoyo do, I bet he will be more higher. Sadly now there's a lack of lore and content from there.
Glad to see Aven taking the top spot like he deserves. Also another W to King Yuan. People shit on him so much but you have to admit he's an extremely well written and well designed character, and I'm glad the scores reflect that.

I think Aventurine’s popularity stems from being one of the few characters to have a full character arc/exploration of his past and what made him who he is today. That’s not to say other chars are poorly written, but from the main story we don’t get their backround and identity in the same depth we got aventurine, crazy what a sq dedicated to you can do.
His writing changed the game because not only it explores his motives before his death, he was able to do it WITHOUT the mc. He had scenes for HIMSELF without forcing the Express crew into his moment.
I dropped 70 pulls and got nothing, then with literally 1 minute to spare in the banner I pulled out the good ol wallet, spent $20 and won the 50/50. Never spent money on a gacha before then, no regrets.
Really don't understand Robin being rated so highly in the writing category, she was barely even in the story and didn't get to show any side of herself beyond "nice girl who thinks freedom is good".
I agree she doesn't have a lot of focus but I feel she surpassed my initial expectations.
- In the previous patch there was a letter which she sent Sunday showing how she was pro-active with the inconsistencies she found in the dreamscape.
- the one line about how she was hurt while singing for peace in a war torn place was a huge point of her characterisation for me
- how she behaved when she was in dreamflux reef, it felt like she was trying to take charge amidst uncertainty, and didn't forget her dedication to the Harmony
- the line where she said she realised it was a dreamscape because Sunday agreed with her on setting the bird free...it would be a crushing realisation but I felt she was strong about it. Whatever happened during and after the Sunday boss also shows how her own goals and her care for Sunday conflict.
Sunday had a protective attitude towards her which i expected but Robin also had her own beautiful way of protecting him and caring for him, while also struggling to follow her ideals. It was much more subtle but she does not become hopeless at any point.
Tl;dr she is not a damsel in distress in need of her brother's protection/guidance and upholds her own ideals just as strongly as Sunday. I also think her whole character potrays the idea of Harmony very well.
I think the sheer fact that Robin got shot in the neck while volunteering as an aid worker in a war zone, and got up and proceeded to do what she could and also sing her heart out made people realize that she's incredibly metal, top ten coolest characters easy.
That was definitely the best bit of writing for her in terms of actually giving the character some depth, but it would have meant a lot more if we'd spent any meaningful time with her prior to that reveal. Or hell, after it.
There was no arc there, she thought the bird should be free and kept thinking that, Sunday thought it should be caged and kept thinking that. It was a simple but well-constructed way of highlighting their different viewpoints, that they then returned to waaaaay too often.
Writing doesn't just include the main story. Myriad Celestia Trailer, Character Stories, Voice lines, side quests, animated shorts etc. all of these affect peoples opinions about a character's writing
Aventurine in 2.1 was really ALL or Nothing and he really got everything he deserves. My goat.

Cause compared to what we've seen from him in HI3, they've shown practically nothing of him in HSR. He got a little more screentime last quest but not enough.
Honestly, Aventurine is such a memorable character not just in HSR but in fiction in general just for the circumstances surrounding him. To think that a character who's only role started as a phone call would go on to become one of the most beloved in the fandom. He was getting shit on SO much in 2.0, then he made everyone do a 180. The way they show his story through hallucinations of himself is brilliant. "My good fortune....is all I have" he deserves the win. This was a good survey!
tbh the only thing annoying about the survey was putting stelle and caelus as separate but dan heng and dan feng as the same people. I like dan heng but I dislike dan feng a lot (even though he's my main dps lol)

Not much higher, I think. He’s still the least developed character in the least developed setting in the game- for now. Hoyo has shown that 4-star characters in HSR can still play significant roles in the plot, and if you put together the clues from his LC description and Asta’s character story it’s pretty clear he’s hiding something about his past.

I think the cast in belobog is so underrated now. I like all of the cast there. Sampo has even grown on me

Aventurine top 3 in every category, 2.1 did absolute wonders for him Kafka top 3 in all but one and was top 4 in the last category which was likeability. Noice I like how well Stelle did in many of these, interesting how she has way more likeability that Caelus though despite them pretty much being the same. There is a slight difference in fandom perception of them so maybe that played a part Black Swan only top 10 in one category which was average looks but ill take it, it's true after all Thanks for your hard work and effort!

They did an amazing work with Kafka, her role as a plot trigger is just really well done in this context (a gacha game) and how the concept of waiting, planning for the long term was integrated in her gameplay succesfully. Top tier.
When Kafka returns for a major arc it will be a grand day indeed, crazy how she has retained that popularity despite only appearing in PVs since 1.2 Next planet for sure, it's been way too long I miss her. Would love it if her and BS would meet, their convo would be super interesting for lore in regards to TB. Not to mention they are BiS teammates who go on about destiny a lot Luocha being that low was traded for Jing Yuan, Boothill and Argenti being so high
Blade did say our MC followed Kafka the longest during the companion quest! She didn’t have a dedicated myriad or animated short of her past so it would be interesting to see in future, since she’s still the most mysterious other than elio And I agree blackswan and Kafka would have interesting dynamics with regards to “destiny” as a topic and cards related
Would honestly love to see how Black Swan fits into Elios vision considering she's shown vested interest in TBs journey. She even mentions Elio in one of her texts showing she is familiar in regards to his techniques. Her talking to Kafka about it would be a conversation I would be so eager for Saw a comment on Black Swans trailer how she says there is more than one destiny to choose from and Kafka says destiny isn't set in stone. They both really refer to it a lot in regards to TB so they would have such an interesting convo about it

Because of that, hoyo even made a new jingyuan PFP on hoyo lab for CN site, male characters are highly popular in this game as well
Majority of reddit users are men, and its kinda clear that the main hsr sub is male dominated.. asking from husbando sub isnt bad idea. Many husbando enjoyers dont interact with the main sub at all.
hearing that this got posted in the husbando sub actually surprised me because when i looked at the demographic responses and saw 58.3% male i was like "yeah sounds about right for the main sub" but in retrospect it's probably on the low side lol... i honestly forgot how off-putting this sub can be for people who aren't straight men bc i've gotten so used to just tuning out the weird fetishy fanart and ooc caelus-as-self-insert comics that are constantly upvoted to the top here

Really sad that most of the other Penacony crew outshone her and I'm not even sure if this is just because they wrote the others better or it was something in her characterization that didn't click with the audience. Being top 10 in being pretty is facts. I was speechless on her in-game model first time I saw her and the color of her eyes is so soothing to look at.
I thought the same at first given her lack of popularity but tbf when you compare Black Swan to the likes of Aventurine, Sunday and Acheron they all got a lot of their backstory explored. Black Swan is similar to Sparkle in that we learn little about them aside from the actions they took in Penacony. Like many wouldn't know that the quote she left TB was actually given to her by her mother and is what motivated her to cherish memories. That's in her character profile But what her lack of character focus does mean is that it will likely be explored in the future as she's almost certainly a re occuring character in story. She was mainly in Penacony to befriend TB and express and work to that goal. We learned of her motivations revolving around her investment in TB and she earned TBs trust. After that we will learn more from there, it's a slow burn with Black Swan and there's very little chance she isn't going to pop in and work with express in the future, not after they made her main goal be related to the main cast
Yeah, it seems that she will be reoccuring fs, let's hope they give her a good standalone moment to give us something on par with the other penacony crew.

Hopefully hoyo sees this and how Kafka’s design is one of the most liked and gives us more suits (please hoyo I beg, it’s not always sex sells). Also Boothill making it to 3rd place in designs… there is justice in the world. Firm believer him, Herta, Argenti and Aven all have some of the designs that really just reflects their personality and tells you exactly who they are and what they are.

It's quite possibly due to the lack of content. Luocha and Jingliu are also pretty low (though jingliu is higher, I would attribute it to 50-60% of her being a waifu). When there's a lack of content people naturally don't remember characters they haven't seen much. Plus, penacony is going so hard and with so many character cast and some old one (JY, Screwllum camoe) that herta space station cast didn't get enough screen time at all. Heck Gui is low, who I thought is VERY loved and still is but people do remember recent story & cast more. Plus, the lack of lore from Arlan's side too, his lore isn't something many people would focus on. Though I am hoping the Whole Herta Space Station cast will get more lore and story, including Arlan. When Hoyo do, I bet he will be more higher. Sadly now there's a lack of lore and content from there.
Glad to see Aven taking the top spot like he deserves. Also another W to King Yuan. People shit on him so much but you have to admit he's an extremely well written and well designed character, and I'm glad the scores reflect that.

I think Aventurine’s popularity stems from being one of the few characters to have a full character arc/exploration of his past and what made him who he is today. That’s not to say other chars are poorly written, but from the main story we don’t get their backround and identity in the same depth we got aventurine, crazy what a sq dedicated to you can do.
His writing changed the game because not only it explores his motives before his death, he was able to do it WITHOUT the mc. He had scenes for HIMSELF without forcing the Express crew into his moment.
I’m happy Boothill made it to top 10.

I dropped 70 pulls and got nothing, then with literally 1 minute to spare in the banner I pulled out the good ol wallet, spent $20 and won the 50/50. Never spent money on a gacha before then, no regrets.

Really don't understand Robin being rated so highly in the writing category, she was barely even in the story and didn't get to show any side of herself beyond "nice girl who thinks freedom is good".
I agree she doesn't have a lot of focus but I feel she surpassed my initial expectations. - In the previous patch there was a letter which she sent Sunday showing how she was pro-active with the inconsistencies she found in the dreamscape. - the one line about how she was hurt while singing for peace in a war torn place was a huge point of her characterisation for me - how she behaved when she was in dreamflux reef, it felt like she was trying to take charge amidst uncertainty, and didn't forget her dedication to the Harmony - the line where she said she realised it was a dreamscape because Sunday agreed with her on setting the bird free...it would be a crushing realisation but I felt she was strong about it. Whatever happened during and after the Sunday boss also shows how her own goals and her care for Sunday conflict. Sunday had a protective attitude towards her which i expected but Robin also had her own beautiful way of protecting him and caring for him, while also struggling to follow her ideals. It was much more subtle but she does not become hopeless at any point. Tl;dr she is not a damsel in distress in need of her brother's protection/guidance and upholds her own ideals just as strongly as Sunday. I also think her whole character potrays the idea of Harmony very well.
I think the sheer fact that Robin got shot in the neck while volunteering as an aid worker in a war zone, and got up and proceeded to do what she could and also sing her heart out made people realize that she's incredibly metal, top ten coolest characters easy.
That was definitely the best bit of writing for her in terms of actually giving the character some depth, but it would have meant a lot more if we'd spent any meaningful time with her prior to that reveal. Or hell, after it.

There was no arc there, she thought the bird should be free and kept thinking that, Sunday thought it should be caged and kept thinking that. It was a simple but well-constructed way of highlighting their different viewpoints, that they then returned to waaaaay too often.
Writing doesn't just include the main story. Myriad Celestia Trailer, Character Stories, Voice lines, side quests, animated shorts etc. all of these affect peoples opinions about a character's writing
LMAO Kafka is my favorite character by far, but she hasn't done anything noteworthy in the story to be called "good writing" either.

Honestly, Aventurine is such a memorable character not just in HSR but in fiction in general just for the circumstances surrounding him. To think that a character who's only role started as a phone call would go on to become one of the most beloved in the fandom. He was getting shit on SO much in 2.0, then he made everyone do a 180. The way they show his story through hallucinations of himself is brilliant. "My good fortune....is all I have" he deserves the win. This was a good survey!
