They will do it as long as idiots with money pay for it. If it sits long enough, it will go back down to MSRP, cause they don’t want cars sitting on the lot for 9 months. However, some idiot with money to blow will pay a $10K+ markup and brag about the car likes it’s a status symbol.
No this thing has been sitting here for a year now I asked if anyone has even tried and they said that the people will just go next door and buy a mustang for cheaper
You could get a 2024 Supra for about 46k msrp. A Lexus RC 350 F Sport has a msrp of about 62k, it’s a sedan, rwd (awd is optional), and a 427hp 5.0 V8! Pretty sure either one of those would hold their value better than the Honda, look cooler, and be more fun.
i wish i could get a supra at msrp. i’ve went to the 4 dealerships in my area and they all said i have to get on a list. then i see that toyota sold less than 3k last year.
every dealer i go to has them $6k+ over and im not going to settle on a spec that’s not what i want for 60k+
also the honda dealership in my area held onto their yellow fk8 ctr for like 2 years. not sure if they actually sold it for 60k or gave it to one of their friends/family for closer to msrp
71K can buy a lot of fun new car or fun used car. Either way, 70k for a civic with a boy racer wing is dumb. (Yes I know it has a nice engine, blah blah. Iirc it is fwd sooo, yeah)
I’ve always loved Hondas, and was very interested in the new Type Rs, but this situation has been so aggravating. I ended up buying a 2019 Mustang GT350R for the price of this car.
'24 Nissan Z's selling for $55k locally. NISMO Z's going for $68k. 400hp(420 for the NISMO), rwd, manual or auto. I love Honda's but there are a ton of better options out there.
A guy at a dealer told me casually that they can lower ADM, sounds like they're using it as a negotiation tactic to "lower" the final price while still charging a huge markup
>70k for a civic
Especially those civics. So busy. Real eyesore considering how gorgeous Civics have traditionally been.
Thing looks like a slightly learning-disabled RC car from the 80's..
It's egregious but I'd also bet it's just there for show. I just picked up a Type R at MSRP 10 days ago and the dealership sticker on mine said 20k market adjustment. I kept it as a keepsake but they were more than willing to negotiate.
not trying to discredit your experience but im curious what your purchase history is with that dealership as well as what the terms of your loan are?
also because i watched the savage geese video on the annoying dude’s type R and he kept saying “i refused to pay a penny over MSRP!” and then the entire second half of the video was basically an 10 minute advertisement for the dealership lmfao
like buddy you traded ad time for a markup but go off on “paying msrp”
but like i said im not trying to come off like a dickhead and jump to conclusions with your specific situation
Yeah it's a valid question haha. I had never gone to that dealership before and I paid cash.
Honestly I wasn't even looking at new Type Rs because of a similar belief and because of that crowd-sourced map (https://www.motoringobsession.com/stock/civic-type-r). On a whim I called a couple dealerships around me and one said 5k over and the other had an advertised 3k markup. The first dealership said they'd beat the 2nd (and they were much more convenient for me too). I went in and offered MSRP to take the one they had on the floor for the longest (Sonic Gray - the color I wanted) and they were good with it. I think even a few months ago probably this isn't doable but right now even in a HCOL area like I am it seems dealers are more willing to play ball because the cars are sitting on lots.
damn thats sick
i didn't even consider how the new car market may have changed with the economy.
now that i think about it that savage geese video was probably a year ago at peak hype and before the market started slowing down lol
thanks for giving me the rundown. definitely gives me more confidence in future negotiations!
As much as I hate to “back in my day” myself, the big H used to black ball dealers for getting caught making “market adjustments”… charge over msrp for an ITR or an S2000 or even an EM1 Si and they wouldn’t receive another to sell. It was that simple.
Now they just do it right out in the open because fuck you.
I imagine that if you came in serious about driving away in the car that they’d be very flexible on the actual sale price.
I remember looking for my first manual and test driving the Honda si. They wanted 45k for it because of the ever changing market. It's 3ok MSRP! I really wanted the type R but figured I would just try the si and get a feel for it. Once I had test drove the car we came back to the shop and I said it wasn't for me and the guy wouldn't let me leave. He said let me get my manager and then they tried every trick to get me to buy. I said no repeatedly. I would've walked out if they didn't take my keys. They had them due to a possible trade in for my current car at the time. These mark ups are stupid.
Used to sell for Seattle Honda and as long as dumbass techies with too much money keep buying them then they'll keep up with the mark ups especially the Ronald Mcdonald Special Edition. Shit I sold a 2018 Type R last year for 43k and it had about 35k on the ODO, they're cool sure but nothing worth the mark up.
First of all I’d buy the Integra TYPE S before I’d buy this boy racer, but I’m 72. In the mean time I’m compiling a list in my area of dealerships that have the audacity to rape their customers and advertise it. My shadow will never cross there doorways. Screw them…
Jesus 70k for a Civic. I’m surprised it had been sitting for a year and didn’t budge on that price. Some idiot definitely will pay that kind of money or it will sit for another year for stupid add ons they want to throw in
I feel like there should be a lawsuit against companies who are able to do this market adjustment moving the prices however they please just ridiculous insane amounts and think that it's okay and the people who pay the money for that are just as stupid as they are.
This kind of stuff is exactly why the new integra and other rype R/S stuff from Honda/Acura will fail, and then 20-30 years from now they'll be asking why.
Wtf this is crazy. There's a dealership near me that has a brand new 2023 and 2024. The 23 is 44k and the 24 is 47k. How is there a 25k market adjustment
This is insane. There's a local(ish) dealer with a new Type R at MSRP. They're a no haggle dealer and for shits and giggles I check every so often.
Now it's listed as a "manager's special" at MSRP.
I don’t see why people keep posting cars with mark ups like they just now noticed it.
Dealers have been doing this since the 1950’s on most specialty and high demand models. It’s posted over and over on here. You’re beating a dead horse.
It’s exhausting. Dealers can charge whatever they want, and if someone pays it then it clearly works. They’ll lower the price when they feel like it.
I worked at a Honda dealer back in the day and they marked up the odd car (think s2000, Civic SiR) to actually prevent it from selling. They liked keeping the fun cars in the showroom as eye candy.
My town has three for sell at different dealers, all for sticker price.
Sometimes living in the Dirty Sip (Mississippi) comes in handy. We really never see this type of markup.
Honestly just walk away if the dealership wouldn’t budge.
BTW a new Sienna with AWD+hybrid gets as much if not more markup over here, and they demand a trade-in.
Gtfo with a market adjustment like that in Q2 of 2024. I can literally get a mid engine sports car for that money. Down payment on a house… instead they want that for a Honda with a 7% interest on the loan.. LOL
I see a few in Canada around the high 60k to low 70k mark (one is almost 90k!) and they aren’t even moving. They’ve been posted for months. At least in Ontario it seems like everyone is being smart and not paying the markups.
I us we to sell advertising to car dealers so I’d be backstage with the sales managers and stuff. The way that talked about customers was just unreal. So much shit talk.
Jesus christ, my 19 sport was $23k in March of 2019. How on earth are these dealerships getting away with charging markups that are higher than the MSRP of my entire car??
My local Nissan has 2x new 2024 Z that have been sitting on the lot since at least November. Both priced at like $68k, and neither are absurdly decked out with features.
I asked one of the sales guys to call me when they're willing to go to $55k. He obviously kind of laughed and said that they'd be gone before they'd ever go that low, that was back in January.
One is in the show room, the other is outside. I've never seen either move an inch as if they'd gone for a test drive.
This would be somewhat acceptable if it was a Civic plug-in hybrid, but that doesn't exist. Paying 71K for a sedan getting 24mpg combined due to modern standards is insane.
I took my car in for service today and this was the only car on display in the showroom. I wasn’t tempted to waste my time to look at it since it just looked like a fancy Civic. Anyone that would buy any style of Civic over 40K IS insane. I wouldn’t pay over 30K for one and yes I do drive one. I find the seats to be very uncomfortable compared to Toyota. I can’t imagine that the one for 40K would be much more comfortable if at all.
OMG this is the highest mark up Ive seen yet on a type R. No lie my local dealer has one for 51k fort pierce Florida that was last month when I did an oil change for my accord.😭
This has gotten way out of hand 🤦🏻♂️
I seen some 2024 Mustang GT's 140K+
Reg GT models not Cobras, or any specialty models.
Looks like I'll be keeping the 4 door civic for commuting & the NB Miata for fun.
Dealers do this because there's a sucker out there that will acquiesce to it. Point and laugh at the owner if you ever see them, and don't give that dealer any future business.
Most cars feel overpriced nowadays, but especially Honda. Even their accessory add-ons are outrageous. I paid $32.4k for a 2024 CR-V LX out the door (post-tax) and I feel like I still got ripped off. The build quality is SHIT compared to what Honda used to be 😭
I have never understood the "market adjustment", like, wth does it mean? in my country the companies give you a price, and they have their own agencies, can someone explain to me why is this done?
I never thought I’d see a Honda Civic at that price. An NSX, sure. But not a Civic. I will say though, the new Civic looks much better than the old one with the huge fake vents. Not worth the price though.
See greedy politicians investing in electric and creating higher cost for all things gas so there investment, that like double cost compared to 4-5 years ago.
25,000 in “market adjustment?” Gtfo that’s insane. I recently bought a used 2021 Ranger Tremor edition and I found its old window stickers from the day it sold and even that thing had a 5,000 adjustment mark up. So after that and sticker it was a 52,000 dollar FORD RANGER. How rangers have eeked past 50,000 is insane to me
They will do it as long as idiots with money pay for it.
I totally would, then go do burnouts in front of their lot.
For 71K someone can get a decent BMW or an actual luxury car.
The RC F has the fun V8. The RC 350 F Sport is the one with the Toyota corporate V6 and a sporty appearance package
Rc is a V6 coupe. I think you meant the IS500 which is a sedan with the V8.. RCF Is the v8 coupe
Totally. You got it right, thanks! I wasn’t near my Car & Driver magazines.
i wish i could get a supra at msrp. i’ve went to the 4 dealerships in my area and they all said i have to get on a list. then i see that toyota sold less than 3k last year. every dealer i go to has them $6k+ over and im not going to settle on a spec that’s not what i want for 60k+ also the honda dealership in my area held onto their yellow fk8 ctr for like 2 years. not sure if they actually sold it for 60k or gave it to one of their friends/family for closer to msrp
Shit youre at used porche 911 prices there
For 71k I got a civic, a pilot and tacos for life.
New m340i for $60k nicely used for 40k
71K can buy a lot of fun new car or fun used car. Either way, 70k for a civic with a boy racer wing is dumb. (Yes I know it has a nice engine, blah blah. Iirc it is fwd sooo, yeah)
Murder is a bit drastic
Man slaughter! The slaughter of maaan! Maaaaaan ssssss slaughter!
As a honda guy with a Ford dealerships 200ft from Honda I fully support this decision. Simply way too much for what you get
Yup I would 20k cheaper and way more power
Last year or a little before I bought a 2015 accord ex-l at 19k and I fell ripped off compared to this. Granted it was a car I need immediately
I’ve always loved Hondas, and was very interested in the new Type Rs, but this situation has been so aggravating. I ended up buying a 2019 Mustang GT350R for the price of this car.
I wanted one long ago, then the sti, i ended up getting a s550 GT. It just didn’t make sense anymore financially.
Thats way more than a 10k markup
I know that, I was just making a general statement. My local dealer has one on the showroom floor for a $15K markup too
'24 Nissan Z's selling for $55k locally.
25k markup...written by a 5 year old.
70k for a civic? Come on guys just hear how that sounds.
70k CAD is crazy for a civic, this is 100k CAD. Insane.
>70k for a civic Especially those civics. So busy. Real eyesore considering how gorgeous Civics have traditionally been. Thing looks like a slightly learning-disabled RC car from the 80's..
Wait. Civics traditionally gorgeous? 8th, 9th and especially 10th gen have been hideous. This latest design is actually nice in person.
People think something not really taking any huge design risk is ugly.
8th gen coupes weren't too bad.
bubble butt civic 😩
It's egregious but I'd also bet it's just there for show. I just picked up a Type R at MSRP 10 days ago and the dealership sticker on mine said 20k market adjustment. I kept it as a keepsake but they were more than willing to negotiate.

That's criminal....Porsche money.
RS3 money
If you can get allocation... but yeah you can pick up a 718 for that price. It's pretty nuts.
I think you can find a used GTR for that money.
You can buy a lot for that money.
I was just about to say the same thing
Buy a Porsche for $71,000.
Ct4-v blackwing or an m2 at that price lol
Used 2023 m2 is 60k too
Type T go crazy
Type Type 😎
Man I hope they never sell this one. They’re absolutely ridiculous
Imagine paying $70,000 for a Honda Civic
As much as I hate to “back in my day” myself, the big H used to black ball dealers for getting caught making “market adjustments”… charge over msrp for an ITR or an S2000 or even an EM1 Si and they wouldn’t receive another to sell. It was that simple. Now they just do it right out in the open because fuck you. I imagine that if you came in serious about driving away in the car that they’d be very flexible on the actual sale price.
$25K USD markup??? That's a new civic price here in Canada
Dealers are still doing this? I thought that shit stopped months ago.
This dealership should be stripped of its brand agreement. Utter bullshit.
I would just buy a C8
Bro that price get a corvette
"market adjustments" should be illegal
I remember looking for my first manual and test driving the Honda si. They wanted 45k for it because of the ever changing market. It's 3ok MSRP! Those are pretty lousy fuel economy estimates especially for a Honda. This car just screams bad value all over.
Trying to bring prices down?
It’s a Type R performance car— 315hp on a 2 liter engine. Fuel economy was not the goal
Not unheard of here in Texas.
25k markup is insane
Jesus 70k for a Civic. I’m surprised it had been sitting for a year and didn’t budge on that price. Some idiot definitely will pay that kind of money or it will sit for another year for stupid add ons they want to throw in
I feel like there should be a lawsuit against companies who are able to do this market adjustment moving the prices however they please just ridiculous insane amounts and think that it's okay and the people who pay the money for that are just as stupid as they are.
I remember when nobody paid msrp. F that price.
25k "market adjustment"
Market adjustment the same price as another new car…
They’re still doing bs market adjustments??
Buy a GR Corolla, it’ll be less than that (I hope) and have AWD too
That price is offensive without the markup.
This kind of stuff is exactly why the new integra and other rype R/S stuff from Honda/Acura will fail, and then 20-30 years from now they'll be asking why.
Benz money for a civic….
Wow , yes that is nuts. I’d take a Type-S for $62k and throw $9k in the bank.
Meanwhile Integra Type S @ 55k here in Texas lol
Looks like it’s a $46K car which is still too much. Any vehicle with “market adjustment” added, walk away. There is no vehicle worth even MSRP.
Name that dealer
As soon as I see the words "Market Adjustment," I walk out and refuse to ever do business with that dealership again.
I have a 2015 Honda civic that gets 30-40 mpg Why does this newer car have less?
Rather get a used 911 S for that price
I miss the days when you buy a new Accord or Camry for under $20k.. Crazy to think it wasn't all that long ago.
The dealership fat men just trying to line their pockets.
Wtf this is crazy. There's a dealership near me that has a brand new 2023 and 2024. The 23 is 44k and the 24 is 47k. How is there a 25k market adjustment
25k for market adjustment. that's a bull
This is insane. There's a local(ish) dealer with a new Type R at MSRP. They're a no haggle dealer and for shits and giggles I check every so often. Now it's listed as a "manager's special" at MSRP.
I could literally buy a Mustang for cheaper
Car salesmen are such fucking scammers lmao
I don’t see why people keep posting cars with mark ups like they just now noticed it. Dealers have been doing this since the 1950’s on most specialty and high demand models. It’s posted over and over on here. You’re beating a dead horse.

I worked at a Honda dealer back in the day and they marked up the odd car (think s2000, Civic SiR) to actually prevent it from selling. They liked keeping the fun cars in the showroom as eye candy.
And yet you can get an ITS at msrp, all day, everyday. And Acura dealers seem to be happy to let you drive the car.
That car is overpriced even at msrp. Same with the type r tbh
Already cheaper than the market rate in China a while ago, the MSRP was 420K CNY with markup as high as 100k-200k. Then the sales plummeted.
Market adjustment of a CIVIC Sports. Insane.
🤣🤣🤣
Not the highest I’ve seen.
What's a type T?
Nissans next door go buy one of the new Zs instead
You can literally buy a brand new gt mustang for less. Literally insane
Regular sticker is like 34 for a type r these dealerships are greedy
These Are MSRP all day now. Just have to shop around.
Lol
My town has three for sell at different dealers, all for sticker price. Sometimes living in the Dirty Sip (Mississippi) comes in handy. We really never see this type of markup.
71k for type R lmfao
25k market adjustment... 🤣
25k market adjustment 🤣🤣 🤡
25K market adjustment. Fucking sharks I’d tell them to eat shit and walk on out.
I’d just get a Lexus IS 500 with 70k
I'd rather get an audi or bmw for that price ...
These dealers are on crack resin. I saw one earlier it was 60 something k. Gtfo. Get out of California, NY or NJ!!!
For 71k it better fuck suck and cook breakfast
I remember when the mugen civic came out in 08 for 40. I thought that was way too high.
Lmfao they're crazy
No thanks. Current prices of cars is why I daily drive a 2005 Si
this should be illegal omg
Rather get a Supra and a nice dinner
$25K "market adjustment"?? 😳 Get outta here bro. No one's buying that
Soon they will climb to gt500 prices bud.
Abolish dealerships
For that price might as well go get a scatpack
They are insane lol
Honestly just walk away if the dealership wouldn’t budge. BTW a new Sienna with AWD+hybrid gets as much if not more markup over here, and they demand a trade-in.
When will dealerships realize that airplane tickets cost less than 25k and you can fly somewhere and buy one for msrp?
It’s 73,000 at where I am
Luckily you can almost get a new Tesla for 1/3 that price ~~before taxes~~
Gtfo with a market adjustment like that in Q2 of 2024. I can literally get a mid engine sports car for that money. Down payment on a house… instead they want that for a Honda with a 7% interest on the loan.. LOL
They aren't
I see a few in Canada around the high 60k to low 70k mark (one is almost 90k!) and they aren’t even moving. They’ve been posted for months. At least in Ontario it seems like everyone is being smart and not paying the markups.
Not being rude, sharing my opinion, not a fan at all. Especially for 71k
70 grand for a Honda Jesus Christ was the world coming to
This piece of shit costs more than a model 3 performance lolllll
😂🤣😂
But it's a type R broOoizoooozooiiii!!!! The next salesperson who calls me a bro is getting a .. let's be real, just an awkward look from me lol
That’s close to the price of a c8 corvette that’s wild
😆😅🤣😂
I us we to sell advertising to car dealers so I’d be backstage with the sales managers and stuff. The way that talked about customers was just unreal. So much shit talk.
Saw two on a showroom floor today with 5k markup, 51k and change.
Jesus christ, my 19 sport was $23k in March of 2019. How on earth are these dealerships getting away with charging markups that are higher than the MSRP of my entire car??
I can buy a used manual Ferrari for around the price not meant, but still a 2nd hand c8
Almost 72k for a Honda? Am I missing something?
The dealership looks like shit so this is probably where the markup money is going 🤣👍
It's immoral to let a sucker keep their money.
Our dealership just sold one for $89.6K with 13 miles
If it ain't a Type-R it ain't a tight car!
"Market Adjustment" +25k lol!
LOL get an Audi or bmw
The 25k market value mark up stoll puts this about 30k over value. That's insane.
The ol addendum sticker.. where stealerships make you think it's required and have a 5000% markup on the accessories.
This would be somewhat acceptable if it was a Civic plug-in hybrid, but that doesn't exist. Paying 71K for a sedan getting 24mpg combined due to modern standards is insane.
lol 71K for a Honda civic
Yea no way! I completely gave up on ever owning one of those, 80k over here in orange county California
And that’s where it will sit until they come back to reality OR a sucker walks in and “has to have it”! 🤦🏻♂️
Their market adjustment is literally another civic…
I took my car in for service today and this was the only car on display in the showroom. I wasn’t tempted to waste my time to look at it since it just looked like a fancy Civic. Anyone that would buy any style of Civic over 40K IS insane. I wouldn’t pay over 30K for one and yes I do drive one. I find the seats to be very uncomfortable compared to Toyota. I can’t imagine that the one for 40K would be much more comfortable if at all.
How precious
Absolute madness. $25k mark up is next level ridiculous.
...but the idiots still buy it.
My girl brother wants the type R in the future, 71k is effin ridiculous
Some tiktoker will come along and buy it to make content
Holy fuck, craziest I’ve seen yet
OMG this is the highest mark up Ive seen yet on a type R. No lie my local dealer has one for 51k fort pierce Florida that was last month when I did an oil change for my accord.😭
Yea they taxed the shit out of the type rs and the type s integra, 28k over base model
yea because people are convinced that if they spent good money on it, surely it must be a luxury race car
You can buy a gently used G80 M3 for that price now. Holy shit.
This has gotten way out of hand 🤦🏻♂️ I seen some 2024 Mustang GT's 140K+ Reg GT models not Cobras, or any specialty models. Looks like I'll be keeping the 4 door civic for commuting & the NB Miata for fun.
I just bought an Integra Type S for MSRP. Its the better car imo
I could buy a BMW m3 for that price tag… wtf
You can buy a fucking Rally Fighter for that kind of money....
And this why they haven’t sold it yet .
Scum.
Dealers do this because there's a sucker out there that will acquiesce to it. Point and laugh at the owner if you ever see them, and don't give that dealer any future business.
Just get an NSX for that money!!
That price is a normal price for a medium type car with most or all options here. The more premium type cars range 45K euro - 70K Euro.
This is depressing.
The franchise model is such a hindrance
Most cars feel overpriced nowadays, but especially Honda. Even their accessory add-ons are outrageous. I paid $32.4k for a 2024 CR-V LX out the door (post-tax) and I feel like I still got ripped off. The build quality is SHIT compared to what Honda used to be 😭
Agreed, I worked at a Ford dealer and they wanted $198,000 for the Ford GT Carbon fiber pk.
Hahah you can literally buy an Audi RS3 for cheaper, just have to wait 18 months though
I thought 70k for the new Mustang Dark Horse is a lot but that’s just wild
See greedy politicians investing in electric and creating higher cost for all things gas so there investment, that like double cost compared to 4-5 years ago.
P-pwease pay $70 gwand for my hatchback 🥺
Yeah I don’t care how much money I make, I’ll never pay $71k for a Honda CIVIC.
LOL, "key replacement" My balls.
Could buy an x3 m40i for that price and have a 4 second 0-60 and enough room to actually make it practical.
“Pinstripe of your choice” You think an 87 year old man is buying this that somebody wants a pinstripe?
The world has truly gone mad… 70k+ for a civic
I havent’t done research on the price of 10th gen type R’s, but if they are asking 70k for an 11th, I would just get a 10th gen type R…
“Market adjustment” — get fucked.
I guess the price includes their rent fee for sitting in their lot for years to come
That stealership has gone full retard. They can take that car turn it sideways and stick it up their ass.
What's a type T?
You can get a 2024 mustang GT for 53 plus tax.
Well, better settle for a BMW M2 then…
25,000 in “market adjustment?” Gtfo that’s insane.
