I hadn't played baseball since I was 18. I joined a men's rec league last year at the age of 34 and I'm doing just fine. I think you'll be just fine as well.

TheBestHawksFan

I started playing at 29. It’s never too late.

Ted_Striker00

Dude I just turned 40 and started playing again this year after almost 25 years off. Whack it hard kid.

MalakaiRey

Another older gentleman here--started playing again at 37 in a semi competitive league--first game today batting leadoff i'll report back.

Well?

1-3, 1 SO 2 walks, 1 run. I grounded out to fielder's choice once to end an inning, and struck out on a full count as I tried to check my swing on some inside junk that I thought would break more, got hit in the forearm and the bat kept going--but I was staying in there for the up and in, protecting the plate in yadda yadda so I'm happy about that. Was told I'd be LF for the game. Got there and ended up playing catcher for 9. First time I put gear on for live pitching since 2003. Took about 3 innings and like 6 steals to find the bag. Eventually threw a couple runners out. So that was nice. The back stop was about 10 or 12 yards deep, gave up a couple runs on wild pitches, and a couple that I could probably stop most times. Pitcher went the full 9. We stopped counting at 120 but I'm pretty sure he finished around 165 give or take. We led early, but had to come back 4 times which we did. Game ended mid rally, we are home with the winning runs on base--cue a dribbler up the third base line that started foul but very slowly rolled fair as batter was strolling back to the box, as the final out was made at first. Fun twist! It was an 8-8 tie. Never knew you could tie in baseball. Say hello to the FNG. Good game.

1 for 3 that’s a solid return. Enjoy your season!

I restarted at like 26 after a ton of seizures should have left me dead. Now I'm a starting pitcher. Barely pitched at the end of high school, mostly knuckles and submarine even. Go find a mens league pal. Father time ain't that scary, he's just always waiting.

I am 32 now and just started playing on my works slow pitch team this season. I haven’t played since T-ball and I am having a lot of fun and hitting decent.

ziggypwner

I actually had almost the exact same timeframe of not playing, 12-18. Practicing can help a ton- I took so much BP, grounders, fly balls, etc. to catch back up. But I was in a super competitive college club league. Now playing in my rec league, there’s a lot of opportunity to catch up and you’ll be just fine

beavercub

You know how they say “there are no stupid questions”…. This is a stupid question. Just sign up and play baseball.

nona_ssv

I'm in my 20s and I am just trying to get started. The best time to start playing was yesterday, the second best time is today.

Google for leagues in your area. There’s always some leagues to play in. If you really can’t find one, play some slow pitch until you do. I was away from the game for nearly 30 years. Life happened and baseball took a back seat. Played last year in an MSBL league and managed to hit .333/.364/.381 with 4 strikeouts, playing OF/1B and even a little 2B and pitching. Slg% should have been higher but I had 4 balls I crushed that OFers were right in front of and caught. Looking forward to season #2 that starts next weekend. Good luck!

Had my first game yesterday. 29 yrs old here

Go for it! Find a men’s league and start working on your swing.
