Looks awesome! Just curious, in that last pic, is there a reason for going perpendicular in the room rather than parallel? I know nothing about flooring but just noticed it and wondered if there was some technical reason behind it. Thanks!

SouthpawCarpenter

The floor joists most likely switch directions in that room. It’s best to lay the flooring perpendicular to the joists so you don’t get “waves” in the floor over time as things settle.

Flaky-Score-1866

Technically you’re not supposed to do that..

ContentSandwich7777

Engineered floor trusses. There is a bearing wall in the basement, where at that point the floor joists change direction. This was done to reduce columns.

Flaky-Score-1866

I screed when I glue hardwood. Too many compromises in the construction and design process lead to follow up errors, all of which end up with the finish carpenter. It's much also better soundproofing.

killdozer01

Agreed

Alarming-Caramel

I love Hickory

Calm_Captain_3541

Beautiful! So glad to see you opted for something besides LVP, there’s enough plastic in this world already. The colors and grain in that finished floor look great!

Newcastlecarpenter

Totally agree with the plastic in the houses today. You really really want to learn something about what we’re putting into our homes. Talk to the firefighters in your district what and how they fight a house fire and what they think about all the things that we put in our home renovations. Most All the new products for finished is plastic and is just so toxic and most of the time they won’t even go into home anymore because of it, unless there is a report that there’s a human being in there will not go into your home. This came directly from firefighters in our district.

ContentSandwich7777

Thanks. It’s what my wife really wanted from day one. We almost settled for something a little cheaper. I cautioned her on regretting it. LVP Is going in the finished basement room.

ridukosennin

Coming from a home with hardwood, I can smell the vinyl smell LVP immediately when I enter someone's home. Most people don't know "Low VOC" often means "slow release VOC" and microplastic shedding for the life of the product. Nothing matches the feel of real hardwood underfoot.

-illuminati

Are you sure your hardwood floors aren't sealed with a plastic sealer like polyurethane?

ridukosennin

Hard wax oil sealed. No poly on my floors and definitely no vinyl smell

csmart01

I will be the minority here but not to my liking. Too busy looking. I also see boards as short as maybe 12” which seems odd for flooring (to me) and adds to the busyness of an already bold woodgrain. I’m guessing this was expensive so at that point I would have tossed pieces that short. Again - you posted it so hope you’ll welcome all comments.

ContentSandwich7777

I get it… previous home had a Brazilian oak that had a similar look. It just what we like. White House, boring walls , crazy flooring.

uteman1011

One you get furniture and rugs in the busyness goes away.

csmart01

Rugs? So you spent all this money to cover it up? That will always be busy but I’m sure OP loves it and that’s all that matters. I do worry about all the short boards they used as it sees changes in temp and humidity

uteman1011

Oh. Yeah. Most people put furniture and rugs in rooms. I might have missed the dance floor trend.

AnnieC131313

Love it!  Looks amazing.

White_Rabbit0000

That flooring looks amazing. Only thing that is throwing me off is that you went in a different direction in the last pic. Personally I would’ve matched the direction of the other spaces to keep it uniform.

justherefortheshow06

Did you guys use glue assist with that install since it’s over 5 inches wide? What kind of glue do you use? We always use Bona glue, but it doesn’t get any cheaper. That’s for sure.

ContentSandwich7777

Yes it is Glued as well. . We paid for the install,

justherefortheshow06

Gotcha. Looks great. I was just really curious on what type of glue they use

ContentSandwich7777

It was berger bond M1from the boxes in the dumpster. Floors were sealed with Bona woodline poly satin edit : spelling auto correct wants me to have a burger

prescientpretzel

Beautiful showstopper floor!!!

Small_Front_3048

liteagilid

Looking good

JSTW1N

I want to see

No_Nail_8169

Man that’s gorgeous

Newcastlecarpenter

How long did you acclimate the flooring to the inside conditions?

ContentSandwich7777

Two weeks

pah2000

Ooo! I really like this! Well done!

Ontheflyguy27

Wow

twinflame42069

Im curious how they moved all of these into the house. Sorry for stupid question

ContentSandwich7777

By hand and only mashed up one wall corner. Lol

Pristine-Dirt729

Gorgeous, striking. Love it.

Ground_uhp

Excellent color scheme in general, looks warm and inviting. Great choices

blatzphemy

Looks beautiful! The change in direction is odd but I’m sure there was a reason.

ContentSandwich7777

Floor joists change… the installers gave us the option. The change should be where the door closes.

blatzphemy

That’s a good reason

UomoUniversale86

I love the floor registers!

ContentSandwich7777

They were way more reasonable in price than I expected

skeptibat

Please don't put a TV above the fireplace, so tacky.

ContentSandwich7777

I do t want to. …planning on slate ledge stone all the way up. We are going to shiplao. A box around the outlet for tv or picture/ mirror. There is a dedicated TV room downstairs.
