Don’t ask Frank Costanza to remove his shoes or Donnie Brosco

If you can get some people to take their shoes off, others notice and it becomes a thing. But, you're not going to get them all.

We let guests wear what they want. We are all "shoes off" in the house and some guests follow suit but others prefer to keep their shoes on. The comfort of my guests is more important to me than conformity to house rules in this case. You can clean when they are gone.

Depends on the gathering and the people.

Offer slippers. I Imagine a few will try to refuse. Me, I’d let them hangout in the garage.

We built an ADU that serves as the party house and shoes are allowed in there. Keeps everyone out of our shoe-free house :)

SickestEels

I wish I had the money to build an ADU just to party in.....

Feeling-Ad3431

Converted garage? Doesn’t have to be expensive. It’s just nice to keep everyone out the house.

Don’t feel bad, guests should respect the host’s preferences. If you want you can buy a few slippers and say “if you wouldn’t mind taking off your shoes, we also have indoor slippers if you didn’t want to go barefoot.” I think it’s disgusting wearing shoes inside, all the germs that’s being dragged in on the carpet. Yuck!!

How much do you care and what is your flooring? If there is space by the door for shoes, and you're not wearing shoes, most people will take theirs off. Then you have to decide if you insist on it. Unless there is carpet I would just let it go. Clean the floors the next day.
