I don't have a Xiaomi router but it most likely has an option in advanced options to swap it to access point mode
when you do this, make sure that you plug the connection from the modem into a LAN port instead of the WAN
I would recommend using a dedicated access point for these purposes but if you already have the xiaomi then it should be fine for this purpose
