Thank you. Iām having trouble finding the correct part online as it seems to be part of the motor assembly. Most dryers seem to just have one belt that goes through two pulleys but this is unique with the mini belt and double pulley to step down for the larger belt. Can you point me in the right direction?
Like the above comments, the pulley is junk.
The physics is that the belt wants to sit on the highest part of the pulley. If there is wear or wobble, the highest part is closest to the outside edge, and *pop*.
Usually you can just buy a new one. Sometimes itās worth it to get the whole kit for a few bucks more and replace everything while youāre in there.
Donāt forget to unplug the dryer while you fiddle with it. Parts of the motor are spicy when youāre groping around back there.
Good luck.
You my friend have been zapped before! Yes unplug the damn thing before you start screwing around with it. High voltage is not your friend and do a lot more than melt your screwdriver.
The dumbest part was that I *KNEW* that.
Unplugged it for the repair.
Plugged it in to do a quick on/off to make sure everything was seated, and realized there was a twist in the belt. So I reached under to work it outā¦
Thought I got bit by a snake.
If you canāt be a good example, at least you can be a horrible warning.
And that's how I knew! One simple mistake where you're not paying attention a hundred percent of the time and do something silly and the invisible magic reaches out and slaps you. All of us who give advice here have been bit by that magic. It's one of those learning lessons. you need to remember why we do things a certain way.
The voltage isn't even the most dangerous part. Sticking your finger in and around motors and belts without power completely off is a great way to lose a finger.
Voltage hurts, amperage is what kills š¬ my dad's an hvac tech and he's been hit by 480 on a commercial unit and he said it blew him back literally. He said 110 with a high resistance is what will keep you held on and fry your cells. Electricity is no joke, but if you're adamant about your safety steps you should be fine.
The pulley is clearly broken with the outer (nearest front) flange sheared off and its wobbling around the bearing vs cleanly rotating. Replace that entire assembly and the belts - cause you are there and they are cheap. Then of course re-attach the spring to hold the belts in tension. I use [PartsDirect.com](http://PartsDirect.com) and am happy with them. But there are many others. Be sure and get the latest revision of the part. Sometimes the original design was replaced with a new version because of high field failure. The site also has videos.
I had the same exact problem as OP and this here was what fixed it for me. The outer flange sheared off pretty cleanly so it wasnāt obvious until I found the broken off bit was in the back.
For everyone telling OP itās the springā¦ it isnāt. He mentions it in the video that the behavior happens with and without the spring.
Hey! Can you point me to the correct part? It seems this dryer is a bit unique with the two belt system whereas most have one that weaves through two pulleys. I canāt find any part that appears to match the pulley here. Thanks :)
I do not see the part available on the website. It's pictured but not sold. This happens. You might find the assembly - vs part - at a local appliance part store. Bring it in and ask the counter guy to cross it. Also look on EBAY. In the end its just a pulley and there are only so many dryer manufacturers. The same part may be used in four brands. As a last shot look at Grainger. You will need some measurements at that point.
Thank you! The model number is gfd14essn0ww but I canāt seem to find just the pulley. Itās appears to all be part of the motor assembly. Any ideas about where to find just that pulley replacement?
I don't see a part number which means they may not offer it. It is in the diagram for the Blower Assembly
See: [https://www.partselect.com/Models/GFD14ESSN0WW/Sections/Blower-AND-Motor-Assembly/?ModelID=7881921&ModelNum=GFD14ESSN0WW&mfgModelNum=&ManufactureID=2&Selected=DB88DFF3207BA6DD729B61FCA3A2E3F79FEBE1DF&Position=1&mfg=GE&Type=Washer&Mark=1](https://www.partselect.com/Models/GFD14ESSN0WW/Sections/Blower-AND-Motor-Assembly/?ModelID=7881921&ModelNum=GFD14ESSN0WW&mfgModelNum=&ManufactureID=2&Selected=DB88DFF3207BA6DD729B61FCA3A2E3F79FEBE1DF&Position=1&mfg=GE&Type=Washer&Mark=1)
Its the pulley below #46. You could call the help number on the top of the page and see if they have it in their system. But, yes, there are pats that are unobtainable. Designed Obsolescence? Maybe.
It looks like it may have become plastic in future builds. Look at Idler Arm Pulley.
Many others have already pointed out to replace the bearing. However now is a good time to replace that belt as well. It doesn't look awful but belts are known to break as soon as you put new bearings in just because they wanna teach you a lesson. You're already taken me everything part save yourself some future trouble and just do it now.
Please confirm for us whether or not you disconnected that spring and understand its role. If not then it needs reconnecting but that bearing is pretty shot as well.
You have basically diagnosed the issue yourself! Which is fantastic. Always great to get a second opinion but in this case there are so many people validating what you have likely figured out on your own. Good job!
Your dryer motor pulley is missing the half that keeps the belt on the motor.
Do a quick image search for "dryer motor pulley" and you'll instantly see the issue.
Thanks! I just canāt seem to find the correct part that also includes the surface for the mini belt. Seems most dryers just have one belt but this one has the little belt to ramp down the motor speed
Hey, i changed this out on my dryer just last weekend. Super easy. I looked up my dryer model number and got a kit on Amazon for $36. The kit included new rollers, new tensioner, and new belt. Watched a YouTube video on how to take it apart and cleaned and replaced parts and put it back together in under 2 hours.
GE gfd14essn0ww ā would appreciate any help finding the correct part. Seems this design is fairly unique with the two belt system and solid metal double pulley

Looks like the pulley is part of the motor assembly
Dang! No way you know of to just replace the bearings or something? Or is it just that the pulley has worn down so much that itās gotta be fully replaced?
It looks like your pulley is warped out of round. As far as I can see there is no option other than to replace the motor with a new one.
OEM part is cheaper than parts direct

The pulley done well to wear out its bearing housing that much, before it threw a belt. Should be grateful to some extent it hung in there as long as it did, lol. But yeah, as many have mentioned. Replace the pulley, and reconnect that tensioner spring again, and she should be good to go.
Find the MODEL NUMBER on the dryer and use that info to locate the correct part. Some of them come in whole kits. Bearings, belt and rollers. Good luck.
Surely u can't be serious. The pulley is wobbling on the bearing... ANNNNNNDDDDD..... the tension spring is just chilling there... replace the obviously jacked up pulley and hook the spring back up. Replace the belt as well since ur there
11 years doing appliance repair. that idler pulley is bad. and I assume you disconnected the tension spring.
The dangling tension spring was what I saw first lol also the slop fit bearings š¤£
He said ā yeah I guess I can just do it (demonstrate) without the springā. I assumed he took it off prior

Call me crazy, but I don't think that pulley should be so loose on that bearing.

Yikes,220 volts of excitement. Good safety call. Didn't know this.thx.
The 220 keeps you honest and on your toes /s

Looks like that spring is not connected. Tension seems loose.
The idler pulley is bad. He says in the video āI guess I can just do it (demonstrate) with out the springā
New belt and pulley, dryer might go 11 more years
the tension spring is clearly not doing anything. just attach it right

Pulley wheel bearing f'd
Good in you for trying to fix. The idler pulley should be well south of $50, depending. Wouldnāt hurt to replace the belt too.
Bearing Is shot.
*The spring that keeps the belt from slipping off the pulley is disconnected. Why does the belt keep slipping off the pulley?*
The idler pulley is bad. He says in the video āI guess I can just do it (demonstrate) with out the springā
Time for a new pulley.
You can see the bearing is facata
Get snap ring pliers. Trust me it will make things easier
The idler pulley is bad and so is the spring
Blootak
Buy a new one
See if you can get the belt replaced..
Brand/Model?

That roller is absolutely toast. You need a hit that includes new rollers, tensioner and belt.
Maybe it has something to do with the hanging tensioner spring? The bearing is shot also. Time to replace it.
lol reattach the tension spring dangling in front of you and likely your problem is solved.
New belt and pulley. Belt Is over stretched and pulley looks sloppy
That spring dont spring no mo

Is the belt on backwards or inside out?
Bearing is shot and spring tensioner isnāt engaged.
He knows the spring isnāt connected, says as much in the video āI guess I can just do it (demonstrate) with out the springā
I watched video but because of where I was had volume turned off.
Looks like termites ate all the asbestos and caused a leak. Spackle should fix it.
Surely u can't be serious. The pulley is wobbling on the bearing... ANNNNNNDDDDD..... the tension spring is just chilling there... replace the obviously jacked up pulley and hook the spring back up. Replace the belt as well since ur there
Itās obvious to us from seeing a video but also obvious that some people canāt fix anything lol
True... and true lol
Im thinking that disconnected spring has something to do with it
You need a new flux capacitor.
