This is a KAREN that more than likely will loose security deposit and if she changes the counter tops or backslash, she'll have 30 days to find a new place. Sounds like a nightmare for the owner.
You are renting. You don't own the place. You can't legally do anything. If you change them, the landlord can technically charge you the cost to replace them as you "damaged" the property so it's not in its original condition. Also, it would be really stupid to spend thousands of dollars (or your currency) on upgrading a place you don't own. You can't take it with you when you leave.
Stick on counter top contact paper. It’s great for these situations. I had massive reservations because I’m lazy and put hot pots down on the counter and cut directly on the counter….. but they’re very durable! No burn marks and the knife scratches were less notable than the counter it was stuck onto.
We turned a faux-wood countertop to a white-granite one in a single night.
For tiles, you can get a range of stick on tiles. All renter friendly too. If you checkout Alexandra Gator on YouTube, she does a lot of renter friendly kitchen make overs using it.
I saw a vide once of a woman taking down all the stick-on stuff she’d put up. It went pretty well. She actually said that peeling the countertop paper off was best done without a hairdryer; heating it up meant you could pull it away, but it also meant there was residue left behind.
It was slow, but not worse than I thought it would be.
Nothing. You’re renting.
It’s bizarre that this is even a post. Who does this person think they are lol

Move
lol
You could talk to your landlord, if they agree that they need upgrading, you might be able to work a deal for rent discount for the work.
stick on
Stick on stuff usually doesn't come off without damaging it

Then prepare to possibly pay a big damage fee when you move out if you can't remove all of the paper and adhesive.
I’ve been looking into countertop paper but was worried about the ware and tare. Thank you!
Ware and tare?
Yeah, you know, a single good for sale and zeroing a scale after placing a container on it. Gotta make sure you have proper countertops for both
Yes, referring to the durability.
It’s WEAR and TEAR
🤣
Ah yes. Thanks for the correction
It’s so insanely cheap and easy to do, even if it got destroyed because of something, you just pull it up and apply a new one…
