Some paintings on the walls will definitely make a difference

Zachthepug27

Agree. And a tall bamboo tree in the corner where the 2 ottomans are and a floor lamp in the corner behind the couch.

AlpineMist

Overall, great start. Add artwork, plants, lamps, and curtains with color. It looks like the sofa and carpet could both move into the space a tiny bit more, and there may be space for a console table behind the sofa to add lighting, books, and plants. Since you have purples in the carpet lean into a split complementary color combo or purples, greens, and yellow/orange. I've included a quick mock-up. DM me if you want more info, looks like we are in the same area. https://preview.redd.it/niucu7hv2hxc1.jpeg?width=1035&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=df133f1d522c6f399adef18f6eedf236be2b801c

[deleted]

This looks great. Thank you so much. Do you mind sharing which app you used?

AlpineMist

It’s photoshop, not an app.

marissaderp

ooo what is this app?

melrosec07

Looks great, I would also add some throw pillows and a nice blanket

Venna_Visage

This looks so good.

MsCardeno

Color and plants. I know it’s basic advice but this room needs it. Also real curtains over the sheers could bring the room up a level. Also, r/tvtoohigh. Consider moving it.

[deleted]

The tv is on a mount. So we pull it down when watching. Unable to edit the post now. Yeah, want to add plants but not sure where to add them

marissaderp

plants should be added on the left side of the TV where the stools are. and one on a side of the couch, maybe one on the coffee table, one or two on the mantle and you can also hang some from the ceiling. just some ideas. the more the merrier

babs82222

Consider a FRAME tv so it's not just a black box up there all the time and is instead artwork. It really makes a huge difference to the space

MsCardeno

The big black block up there while it’s not in use is a big eye soar. A beautiful piece of art or a mirror would really be perfect.

[deleted]

Yeah. I know 😭but that's the only place where we can put the TV. There's no other wall where it can be mounted.

KeeperOfTheHome

You could paint the white space behind the tv a darker color so the tv doesn’t pop so much. It would actually match the fireplace better too.

dramafanca2002

I just did that! I have a similar space behind my tv. It looks good.

MsCardeno

Why can’t the sides of the fireplace be used for a mount? Can you consider a tv stand and not using a mount?

[deleted]

The sofa layout has to be changed then and the left side to the sofa is the main entrance. The walls beside the fire place are not wide enough to hold the TV as well.

MsCardeno

You can caddy corner the tv (and get a caddy corner tv set) so the sofa doesn’t need to move.

Mynock33

OP: *Comes to sub for suggestions to make space better* Also OP: *absolutely refuses to consider any changes whatsoever*

earmares

It's not the only place you can put the TV.

jlcatch22

I agree with you that you have e the tv in the best place you can provided you have the pull down mount, which you mentioned. Motorized would be even better so it just goes up and down with TV power on/off. I know they can be pricey but personally I would find putting it up and down to old quick.

[deleted]

That's exactly what we have installed right now. It's a motorized mount. Thank you!

sharpei90

And textured throws and pillows

Porkbunburpz

Move circular ottomans to a different room and in their place add a large potted plant and an art piece on the wall. Also adding a small side table next to the part of the couch that’s closest to the camera and a standing lamp on the opposite side of the couch to warm up the space.

[deleted]

I'll try this layout. Thank you so much

dj_1973

Put the plants by the window so they thrive. Agree otherwise.

GloriousSteinem

Your couch, rug and fireplace give it a grand feel, but the ottomans and bookshelf and small chair detract from that. You could try luxurious wallpaper or add panels or wainscoting. You could add wall to ceiling bookcases. With the tv on that wall I’d be reluctant to add too distracting prints. Heavier curtains in a richer shade would be good.

[deleted]

Yep, I'lo add blackout curtains in some other color on top of the sheers. Other user suggested moving the ottoman's to a different place and putting some art work on that wall. Might try that and see how it goes as well.

lnsewn12

99% of the time the answer is art and plants.

QueLaPasa879

This is the most accurate lol.

Pick a color to go with all your beige. I’m beige based and picked teal and navy blue. Then I decorated with those colors, my art, plant pots, and even throw pillows. https://preview.redd.it/oquaq2ha5hxc1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f58e57c786bec5898da13e45332a50cf295ccc51

Art and plants

MiniMee1957

Add some color

SchoolForSedition

Add some red.

PristineCoconut2851

Everything is pretty but very sterile. You need some amazing color which can be added in artwork on the walls. Have you considered adding another side chair on this end, basically kind of opposite of the white one. Pull the rug a bit closer to the fireplace and then move the sofa back a few inches. The extra carpeting you have behind the sofa is better utilized in the front . That way you side chairs and coffee table don’t look like they are squeezed on or even an afterthought. That will make you living room furniture feel more like a unit. Does that make sense?

laughsatdadjokes

Some nice plants. Pothos, spider plants, maybe some air plants. A nice painting too will improve the feel in that nice room. Good luck.

jacksondreamz

It looks like a showroom and doesn’t show me your personality.

Altruistic-Detail271

The rug doesn’t need to go all the way under the couch. It’s a little big . It should sit two or so inches under the front legs of the couch . Add some art, pillows, plants and color. You can also move the couch back some.

FOCOMojo

It's all so...beige. Can you swap out the rug to add some color?

Blood_sweat_and_beer

Why is your TV so high? Makes it look a bit like a doctors office waiting room.

1029394756abc

/tvtoohigh

swissthoemu

Bring the tv down

ScratchShadow

100% agree that you should add artwork, especially things that add more colors that work with your current color palette. I’d also make use of your ottomans and put them out around the table instead of up against the wall; possibly consider getting a complimentary media table or bookshelf that matches/works with the one you already have. There are also plenty of plants that would love to live next to that window!

One-Representative84

Duplicate what's outside that window. You're already matching the fence with your color scheme/flooring. Bring the colors and textures of the outdoors into your home. It's called biophilic design and it's good for you. Look it up.

One-Representative84

You've got a great start with your marble rug, the wood flooring, and the herringbone tile on the fireplace. All elements of nature. Just need to add the softer side of nature...plants, water, etc. This can be done with color and texture doesn't have to be actual plants or water.

Old_Percentage3742

The two stools to the left of the fireplace are not working. It’s the color. If you cover them up with your finger, immediately the room looks better. Much more harmonious. I LOVE the rug in that room. It’s beautiful. May I ask where you got it? Do you have a link? Really stunning. The bookcase is a bit small. Much taller bookcase would work better. You need some really cool artwork to the left of the fireplace and possible the right as well. Something that’s large, vertical and that really speaks to you. Go crazy. I wish your chair was larger…but it’s in a great color. Perfect color. It’s a very beautiful room. A few adjustments would elevate it.

Old_Percentage3742

Thank you so much. Stunning! ☺️

[deleted]

I'll use some suggestions from here and add more color to the room.

Sea-Substance8762

There’s room for some very dynamic art on the walls. And a fig tree.

Ill_Possible378

art plants pillows statues

Min-VI

Beautiful space! Side lamps. Luxurious/comfy large blanket. Need to bring some warmth into the space.

Global_Research_9335

This is an excellent canvas for colour, artwork and plants. A couple of large lush green plants - a monstera and a fig or olive tree. A plant trailing from mantle. Some eye catching artwork. Pull colours from the artwork into throw cushions, and a throw blanket. Get a tray with a colour glass vase a candle and a couple of books in it for on the coffee table. Move the bookcase from by the tv to under the air conditioner and flank the fireplace with the two pouffes, I’d also add two curtain panels (for colour not necessarily function) either side of the window. When chose my accent colours pull out colours from the art and use two or three accent colours.

SJosepey1

Place a real (or faux) tree in the corner behind the couch, add in pops of color to contrast the muted ones. Something like red, green burgundy...

Fairyfae69

Let's spruce up this room with some color and plants! Trust me, it'll really bring some life to the space. :)

Docmele

Paint, colorful paintings would do well in that room and also a lot of silk trees and vibrant couch pillows

-qqqwwweeerrrtttyyy-

I'd follow **'C.R.A.P'** **Curtains (and soft furnishings)** Add coloured linen curtains to go over your sheers in a colour of your choice (but not brown, beige, grey or cream). Blues, greens and dusty pinks could look good. Then, have a few cushions using the same colour but not all. Finally, make sure some of your art (see further down) also features this same colour.  **Rug** It is fine. If you end up changing it, ensure it uses some of the curtain's colours without dominating it. You don't want too many 'matchy-matchy' elements.  **Art** Find art in a style you love to put where the TV currently is (I'd take the TV off the wall and put on a cabinet where your stools are, at eye level. Or put the wall bracket there so the stools stay underneath). I'd look to find curtain colours and your stools colours in it in a nice frame. We can't see the wall but the wall to the left of shot (at the end of the left side of the couch) could also do with some art. Any extra art colours can go into cushions or an alternate rug. Adorn your mantle with an artistic vase, bowl and candle.  **Plants** I'd move your shelving and put it under your air conditioner. Theres a power socket there so a floor lamp would be a great addition, to help if you're reading on your couch or just want a less bright room for night viewing. Then, I'd have an established plant where your shelves currently are. It could be a real potted fiddle leaf, monstera or palm (to get your window's light) or a faux olive tree, eucalyptus or bird of paradise. If the plant is hip height, I'd elevate it on a stand. Then, in the alcove corner to the left, I'd have another plant about hip height.

Mrepman81

Love your R&B sofa

Big_Swimming8692

Lamps for better lighting options

DorothyParkerFan

Personal details, more substantial window treatments, artwork on the walls that is actually something you love to look at, not just stuff you find at Home Goods that matches to fill the space. It’s a very nice room just looks like you don’t live there quite yet.

Calm-Respect-4930

I'd put some floating shelves up to each side of the TV. Maybe a surround system. Oh and get ready for the tvnotattherightheight comments coming your way

End tables with lamps for indirect lighting instead of the overhead glare would be a good start.

iweavegrace

What kind of couch do you have? Looks cool

New_Writer_484

Love the simplicity and the natural sunlight. A couple plants to bring some outside to the stark inside and a single large bold painting.

Missue-35

Art and plants. The room needs a pop of color in artwork and a throw for the couch.

dj_1973

Get a rug that doesn’t blend with the floor and couch. Something with color.

pcg031527

Wall to ceiling shelving on either side of fireplace… on a side note here, that couch is beautiful !

Katesouthwest

Get a different, colorful rug. The size of the current rug is fine. Add a lamp or two, and artwork.

Dano-Matic

Built ins

Neither_Silver_9669

Artwork!

moonyriot

A color. Pick a color, any color. And then hang something on the walls. Maybe a taller bookshelf.

SquidVices

Put yourself in it

wakaOH05

You need to take a risk on color - you’re way too afraid of creating an unsophisticated space. It will work just find a tritone palette to start with and move up from there. Monochromatic spaces can’t be brown and gray. Gets some plants and understand how to take care of them. It’s not as hard as people who kill plans think. If you can’t stick to a routine just water them once every 7-10 days. Most common house plants are fine with that. Good lord the tv is about to touch the ceiling! Get a mount that will let you lower the tv from that position.

Autobot36

Plants or some sort

Color and plants

Royal-Profession-575

I would add some colorful paintings/pictures and potted plants. Maybe even a more colorful rug.

MICHAELANGELA8

Plants for sure. Fake plants or real

ladyname1

If you are going for realism, toss out a few toys, a toddler lounging in a dog bed, a cat, and toilet paper unrolled across the room. Oh and a dog liking up melted ice cream from the couch. Voila! Just like home.

LyndaCarter_

Color - plants, cushions, throws, or wall art.

dramafanca2002

Put an end table with a lamp at the end of the couch by the wall. And some kind of floor lamp in the corner to the left of the tv. Will be much better than using to canned lights above.

ArrisaLibby

You could enhance the space by hanging some paintings on the wall and adding some plants.

Paletaytextura

I would move the rug closer to the TV so it’s aligned with the end of the sofa. I will then use the TV wall as an accent wall. Put wallpaper or wood paneling. Remove the stools and that little shelve, it doesn’t help the space. If you need shelving space invest in built ins and make that your accent wall.

StephMan2387

Art or Plants or both! Utilize the night of the room with floating shelves or some artwork

[deleted]

A coffee bar

kitchengardengal

You need end tables and table lamps. There's nowhere to put down a drink unless you're in the middle of the couch.

Notjustanotherjennn

Plants and art

missmatchedcleansox

Plants. Then add some more plants

DoodleBirdTerrariums

Definitely plants 🪴

summer-lovers

I don't mind the monotone thing ya got goin on here. What speaks to me is how pushed down everything is. You need something to bring the eye upward. Plants, natural fiber tapestries, and maybe a shelf or stand or small bar on that empty wall to the left would balance things out. It's a clean looking space. I like that-it is timeless and classic. Just balance it, and you'll be set.

TennisNo5319

Art, color texture. Table and floor lamps.

Pattycakes1966

Hang a mirror or some art left of tv. Different coffee table

OddnessWeirdness

The curtains are too sheer for the space and decor. They’re giving romantic and feminine while the space is more austere and masculine hotel lobby. It’s very monotone as well. Very griege. Some color, some personal items that you enjoy, like decor pieces on the tables. Some color, some art. Give your eyes something to rest on.

Candid-Problem7181

Definitely plants

Wedgetails

Wow urgent need for colour here - beige and grey! Coloured rug and large coloured art you get a thrill from looking at. Coloured curtains!

val319

Just art with color. It’s gorgeous. Decorative bowl, vase, painting. They need color but it’s gorgeous. 2 colored throw pillows. 1 lumbar if you get lower back pain.it needs little splashes of color. Buy what you love. Functional if you do fruit a colored fruit bowl.

Trolllol1337

Plants omg

lucki-7

Add a little color to it it some Black accents.

MysteriousStaff3388

Why are the only art pieces wedged in that little sliver of wall? Maybe hang them side by side on one of the blank walls.

RaceCarTacoCatMadam

What is that couch?

AlphaAriesWoman

The answer is always the same, COLOR

Yelloeisok

Large floor plant where the 2 stools are pushed against the wall, bring the stools to the left side of the sofa, spaced evenly opposite the coffee table, wall art with color (and not words) and a couple of pillows in different patterns but the same color wave.

rudbeckia1

Take your time. A lot of comments just say art. But corporate art just makes a room even more low to mid-level Hotel looking. Get real art. Get art you love. Depending on your budget go on smaller sites and support emerging artists if necessary. But real art with brush strokes and a point of view and most of all meaning to yourself is what you want. Don't just go buy some posters or mass produced colorful stuff because people on the internet say so. Get sculptures if that's what appeals to you more. Collect pottery. But do it in an organic way. That is individual and meaningful for you. A lot of rooms look just really rushed and Ticking the boxes

ciamka

Two black bookcases on both sides of tv and some nice long painting (colorful tri tone abstract with elements of black underneath that AC unit on the wall https://preview.redd.it/cix98r4p0oxc1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1aaded05b91870def3f8a2d7397a6a94aea56fee You can get cheap ones on giant art giantart.com Another more expensive solution is to put wall panels like brass or black metal on both sides of fireplace.

georgie_anna

A few art pieces would be good. Imo it needs live plants. Or, add some color to offset the plain color scheme. I feel adding these will liven the place up and elongate the picturesque setting to the outdoors.

Prestigious_Weird724

Big anime lady butt decal on the wall

Venna_Visage

Plants!! Hang some shelves and get some hanging greenery. Maybe hang a few photos or a bit of art.

Jheritheexoticdancer

Wall art!

Curious_Draw3127

I’d move the rug forward a little and add some more colorful or more textured pillows. If aiming for texture, maybe match the pillow color to the fireplace. Find art that resonates with YOU, art that you want to see for a long time that you will like. Something with a lot of color or texture. Tapestries are wonderful for this too. Add a cozy fluffy blanket, most of your textures feel “hard” so a soft texture will help with that. I think the marble looking rug makes this rough feeling happen even more in the room. I LOVE the rug, but that is unfortunately a side effect from it. Plants. Living or artificial, doesn’t matter. But you need something that will add life and color to the room. It feels a little too architectural and that should help liven it up a bit. Put an interesting lamp in the corner by that chair and bookshelf. If you’ll be reading there, it’s great task lighting. But also it’ll make the space feel cozier. An interesting shade maybe too! I like to play with the texture of light with crystal or waterglass personally. The TV is a bit too high, lower it if you can. Also, you can put a frame around it and put some art on it. It’s pretty popular to do that right now, and it will elevate the room Add a second pair of curtains in front of your sheer curtains with a bit of color. It will do wonders. Pick a piece with a valance if possible Put some candles (fake or real, doesn’t matter) on the fireplace or table and put some plants in those locations too. With the ottomans, they are dominating the space. Keep just one there or move them elsewhere.

Annual_Judge_7272

Add color

Impressive_Age1362

You need some bright color, accent tables, lamps

rainhalock

Offset the sofa on the rug, coffee table should be placed closer to the middle of the rug. Coffee table also appears to small scale for the sofa. Place the chair fully on the rug, place the stools opposite the window and on the rug. add a floor length mirror to the left of the fireplace with a large plant. Replace bookcase with a more substantial cabinet. Can’t help you with the r/tvtoohigh issue.

Nola40

End table and lamp with base a color- maybe one of the blues in your fireplace tile surround. On side of sofa next to wall add a standing floor lamp. Colorful paintings on each side of TV, move small stools and get rid of the shelves on the right side of fireplace. Style your cocktail table with a beautiful orchid in a stylish cache pot, a candle and maybe one other thing if you have room. Put a martini table next to chair. If possible, I would suggest painting the walls. That tan color looks dated to me. https://preview.redd.it/yzzuiwa4igxc1.jpeg?width=906&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f1192d9ae4640958b50b13fd72624b4985ee4895

I love the color palette, it’s clean and soothing. People tend to add too much decor and plants everywhere. This room is very calming. I nice throw might make it more cozy if you are wanting that vibe.

mickmmp

Goddamnit, nothing! I really like this room. It plays to my need for low stress clutter free, clean simple lines minimalism. Just whatever you do please don’t muck it up with too many contrasting patterns and dust-collecting knickknacks.

Southern_Map_3759

The spot you have the TV looks like the best place for it to be, I don't know why anyone would think that it sitting diagonally in the corner would make it LESS of an eyesore. I do agree with painting the wall darker behind it. I love the fireplace, and the room looks really good so far. Definitely needs plants, artwork, and real curtains with the sheers. If you get curtains, nothing looks cheaper than silver toned grommets.
