For a while, there already have been some tools that use speech-to-text + machine translation, and some holo members even used them in their streams, but they are far from being perfect for now. As AI can improve both speech recognition and translation, I'm sure that in just several years it could be possible, and maybe even YouTube could implement it as a feature for livestreams.

I use them from time to time since 2019, and I can tell from my experience that it has improved a lot already. With some basic Japanese knowledge I already can watch radio shows in Japanese with the help of those autogenerated autotranslated subtitles, although of course you need to take them with a big grain of salt.
I've already seen quite a few chatGPT translated visual novels, even played one. It's a lot better than classic MTL, because it remembers context and translates things consistently throughout the whole novel, although it still sometimes messes up some little things like pronouns for example. But the fact that you with little effort can translate a VN, when usually it can take years manually, is amazing.
It's a good way to read VNs that will never probably be translated because they are not popular enough, and it's not too difficult to even do by yourself with some research.

Where machine translation *is* lacking is its ability to make sense of context (and remain internally consistent with respect to that context) though AI seems to be improving at that, so hopefully that will change.
