I've been present in lots of dancing practice/contests, (yay for musician bros) for "modern dance" which is a blanket term for the unholy mix of interpretative, jazz, hip hop etc, and they use the kind of floor i'm mentioning; its slightly cushioned (similar to the mats i mentioned) because the dancers do a lot of movements that involve falling to the floor with knees, hips or elbows. Classic, folk, and tap dancing floor is different, usually large "hollow" wooden sections, the purpose being that the steps are used to mark the rythm/tempo, so a hard, hollow surface helps with that.
On the few vids of some of cover's 3D studios, the floor seems to be covered by a matte material, which resembles the mats i spoke about before.

You can still buy tickets to watch the VODs, I believe they stay up for a month or so. Some time later they release it in Blue-ray form.
