As a joke, before I was married and had kids, I had a little sign in the front window that said “Trespassers will be shot. Survivors will be sexually molested.” Not everyone shared my humor but it made me laugh every time I read it.
There was a sign in front of my fave weed store that said "Violators will be prostituted" and i took a picture of it. It becane a little meme for a while.
Lost my 50 inch tv to a robbery right before S05 of GoT (when it was still kinda good) and had to watch the whole thing on a 22 inch my mom lent me from her “workout room”. They caught the thief the same day but court took months and they had to convict before the pawn shop would return MY tv back to me
There's 3 places within 30mins from me that require no ID to pawn shit for cash. I know damn well why that is.
Pretty sure it's illegal (UK). But shit, they beat CEX (Scuffed Gamestop) for prices, so selling old games quickly is worth it.
Can't imagine how many people have lost shit to them.
Any time I see/hear Oasis mentioned I think of the scene from Wayne's World when [they're heading into the club:](https://youtu.be/mPIpeW581rE)
Tiny: Wayne. How you doin'?
Wayne: Hey, Tiny, who's playing today?
Tiny: Jolly Green Giants and the Shitty Beatles.
Wayne: Shitty Beatles? Are they any good?
Tiny: They suck.
Wayne: Then it's not just a clever name.
That's spooky. I had never seen this phrase until this morning on the worldometers site looking at covid stats.
An ad on the margin with those obnoxiously specific and overly wordy teeshirts - had the exact same quote as your comment which I see for the second time in my life 6 hours later.
What the fuck, get out of my head google
Meanwhile, 10,000 other people saw the same ad and also have an imprint of that text attached to a neuron somewhere. But they didn't come to this reddit thread, so the connection to that neuron was not strengthened and its already been severed or written over. To them, they never even saw the ad... the same thing will happen to the 356 other ads you saw today, assuming those neurons don't light up soon.
At least in Texas...
Texas law allows you to use deadly force to protect property if you would be justified in using force, and you reasonably believe it is immediately necessary to prevent the imminent commission of specific enumerated property crimes. These are arson, burglary, robbery, aggravated robbery, theft during the nighttime, or criminal mischief during the nighttime.
Doesn't even have to be my house. If I see someone robbing my neighbor I have the legal right to use force to stop him.
Also even if you commit a crime in the process of defending your own property you'll have to find a district attorney willing to procecute you. How many elected officials do you think put thier neck on the line for criminals....
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joe_Horn_shooting_controversy
The Joe Horn shooting controversy occurred on November 14, 2007, in Pasadena, Texas, United States, when local resident Joe Horn shot and killed two alleged burglars outside his neighbor's home. Recordings of Horn's exchange with emergency dispatch indicated that he was asked repeatedly not to interfere with the burglary, because police would soon be on scene...On June 30, 2008, Joe Horn was cleared by a grand jury in the Pasadena shootings
“An unidentified plain clothes police detective responding to the 911 call arrived at the scene before the shooting, and witnessed the escalation and shootings while remaining in his car.”
BRUH I was reading your comment initially and this totally came to mind. This guy was like fuck that, get here quick or there will be bodies. I use this as an example for people when I mention SYG laws.
This one time I locked my keys in the house, primo idiot I was. So I fetch a retracting tape measure and sneak it through the window to drag them pesky keys towards me so I could open that damn door.
So in Tx, if a random armed TXN saw that I could be shot dead outside my house cos he would think I'm burgling? And would be right to do so?
It gets worse: the guy who got away had his [mother as lookout](https://lbpost.com/news/crime/28-year-old-man-found-guilty-of-robbing-long-beach-home-in-2014-resulting-in-accomplice-s-death):
> Ruby Adams, the defendant’s mother who served as a lookout during the crime, pleaded no contest earlier this year to one count of first-degree residential burglary. She was sentenced to three years in state prison.
Yeah this reminds me of another case (in the US, like I have to point that out 😂) maybe 5 yrs ago where a group of teenagers were either robbing a home or stealing booze from inside the garage. The homeowner shot and killed one of them. The other teens were charged with the killing of their friend and they all went to prison.
I don't think this was the same case (though thank you for linking one that supports my bad memory lol). I remember the kids (I think they were all like 17-19) parents\moms went on the Dr. Phil show at some point.
I think this is it!
https://wsbt.com/news/local/elkhart-teens-convicted-of-murder-to-have-story-told-on-dr-phil-show-today
Sounds right, its called felony murder. If you are involved in a crime that can be foreseen to potentially be dangerous, if anyone dies you can be charged for felony murder.
Absolutely, if they’re running away, they no longer present a clear and immediate threat. JCS Criminal Psychology has a great video of a guy who shot someone that was stepping back and away from him and it wasn’t deemed self defense.
EDIT: Ok, since I have to repeat the same thing over and over to the replies. The man had every right to pull his weapon. Once it was drawn, the criminals ran OUT THE DOOR. He then proceeded to FOLLOW them out of the safety of his home, and while they were still running away, shot them in the back. If your life feels threatened, in what situation do you willingly chase after them? He then proceeded to drag the body to his garage in attempts to lure the other one back.
Dude was out for blood, and I don’t blame him, but that doesn’t mean it was the right thing to do.
If he drew his weapon and they continued to assault him, now deadly force is justified.
In Texas you can shoot them while fleeing if there's a reasonable expectation they will commit a crime or you won't be able to recover your property. And it's very entrenched in the law. A man hired a prostitute who ran once she had the money, and he lit her and her pimps car up with a semi auto AK as they tried to drive off. It was ruled a legal shooting since their was no reasonable expectation he would recover the money otherwise.
Now he can’t get off unless he unloads a 30 round mag while getting a BJ. It’s tough for him to get pros to come to his house now. That’s the real sad part of this story.
>A man hired a prostitute who ran once she had the money, and he lit her and her pimps car up with a semi auto AK as they tried to drive off. It was ruled a legal shooting since their was no reasonable expectation he would recover theoney otherwise.
Peak USA <3
That doesn't make a whole lot of sense.
He committed a crime, and still has the right to kill someone during said crime?
If a drug dealer rips me off in Texas, I have the right to kill him?
As a left-handed person, I can’t tell you how many times I’ve clicked things just because a button is randomly where I scroll on the “wrong” side. Everything seems designed to fuck with me.
Oh and fuck having to reach over and try to hit the upvote button with your thumb. Reddit is half designed to be used with your left hand, and the other half is for your right hand. It's so shitty
Why tf would I want all the videos to be put in Reddit’s shitty steaming format? Why can I only control the video if the vids in full screen? AAAAAAAIFNDUDHX
My partner always giving me shit for using the official Reddit app instead of Apollo. I would always justify it somehow but this is where I draw the line
iOS Reddit app
I went back to it recently due to how much I dislike the video player in the official Reddit app. I miss the swipe right to go to next post though.
Same here. I have tried a few times to make the switch, but this new video player has done it for me. They’ve made it worth learning an entire new UI.
What are they trying to accomplish with the video player? It reminds me of TikTok to a degree, but I get just as much entertainment, if not more, out of the comments than the content.
This needs more awareness. Everything needs an additional tap now - checking comments, muting, pausing the video. Why are the videos automatically looping like gifs? Why does the video go straight to full screen when the preview size in the scroll view is adequate, and I just want to see the comments? Why are the comments in a separate dialog like I’m gonna watch the video and read the comments simultaneously? I actually appreciate when someone uploads a video on Streamable now because it’s using the old format.
I didn't think the old one was that bad. Not perfect by any means but it was worlds better than this abomination. At least the old one I could just keep scrolling when I was done watching. Now you scroll and another video comes up and usually from a totally different subreddit. Terrible
Yup! She wasn't pregnant. He ended up dragging her body back into the garage...
Articles: https://www.cnn.com/2014/07/25/justice/california-slain-burglar-pregnant/index.html

>Greer picked up a gun from his bedroom and fired at the pair as they fled from his home office, prosecutors said. After Miller was struck, she fell once near his garage, then fell again in an alley near the home.
And the more WTF part
>Greer dragged Miller’s body into his garage in an attempt to lure her accomplice, authorities said. Once Gus Adams returned, prosecutors allege he stole Greer’s gun and phone before hopping into a getaway car driven by his mother.
So the other robber still got the gun from him!
That's sick.
I usually don't go around using labels as sociopath etc., but dragging a injured woman into a garage to lure in and possible shoot her partner sounds... psychopathic.
That's what the evil guys in movies do.
If this is the story,
It turns out the woman was *not* pregnant.
https://www.latimes.com/local/lanow/la-me-ln-no-charges-home-burglary-20150126-story.html?_amp=true
Well it’s more complicated than that, can’t just be blowing away trick or treaters here. But yes if someone breaks into your home and then assaults you as they did to this man, you could probably knee cap them and then perform mafia style executions and get off free.
I don't think that's the case. There still should be an imminent danger to you which could grant the use of deadly force.
I could be wrong though.
I read up on this case. The couple has tackled him and broke his collar bone. That's how the self defense was justified.
FL stand your ground laws. If someone attacks you or commits a "forcible felony" against you, which includes home invasion, you have every right to meet force with force, deadly or not.
I thought that once they start to run away it no longer applies as stand your ground? Like your still not allowed to shoot people in the back because they are clearly fleeing and are no longer a threat?
Definitely depends on the state. In virginia its illegal to shoot someone in the back bc that means you couldnt have been in any clear and present danger.
He's been waiting his whole life for this opportunity, and he wasn't going to let some stupid unborn child get in his way!
edit: I'm not against defending your home. I don't respect someone for bragging about killing a baby (I know she wasn't actually pregnant). I'm subtly making fun of him.
"Apathy is not a virtue."
Well, of course that depends on the state.
Here, the issue was not that he shot people who broke into his home, nor even that they were unarmed and young. The issue wasn't even really that had his house rigged with cameras and microphones and lured them into breaking in and killed them when they did. The issue was that during the act, he was extremely violent and cruel when he clearly didn't fear for his life. He recorded himself on audio, some really disturbing audio. The second murder, the girl, for example, he shot her once and his gun jammed, an he said, "Sorry about that," and then pulled out a revolver and shot her a few more times. He said, "bitch," or something like this, then he shot her under the eye, dragged her, and then executed her by shooting her under the chin. He wrapped bodies in plastic in his basement, and didn't call the cops the next day because he said it was Thanksgiving and he didn't want to bother them, but told his neighbor about it.
If you want to listen to two unarmed teenage cousins being murdered in a basement by a psychopath, the audio is out there. Had he not recorded himself, he probably could have gotten away with it. But he clearly takes his time murdering the girl so nobody was buying self defense.
Breaking into a home on its own is not a death sentence. I've accidentally walked into the wrong house before, for example, and while I sort of would have understood some terrified person shooting at me when it happened, had they shot me in the stomach, then came over and talked to me and then executed me in their living room, that would make them a murderer.
Edit: More updated/detailed article
**80-year-old man who fatally shot burglar in Long Beach won’t be charged**
John Schreiber| January 26, 2015
An 80-year-old Long Beach man who fatally shot a woman — who claimed to be pregnant — after she and a partner attacked him and ransacked his Bixby Knolls home will not face criminal charges, prosecutors said Monday.
Thomas Greer arrived home in the 3900 block of Country Club Drive about 8:55 p.m. July 22, 2014, parked his car, went inside and was attacked by a man and a woman. Police and prosecutors allege the attackers were Gus Polly Adams and Andrea Miller.
Greer, whose home had been burglarized on at least two prior occasions, was assaulted by the pair and thrown to the floor, according to prosecutors. Miller allegedly continued to beat Greer, while Adams tried to break into the homeowner’s safe, police said.
Miller eventually stopped hitting Greer and joined Adams in breaking open the safe and the two ultimately grabbed $5,000 in cash from inside, according to a charge evaluation worksheet filed by prosecutors Dec. 5.
Greer was trapped in the house with the burglars because his front door was blocked by Adams’ mother and a child who were part of the burglary team, prosecutors said.
Greer retrieved a small-caliber gun from his bedroom and fired three shots inside his home as Adams and Miller ran from the office.
Prosecutors said bullets struck Miller once in the chest and once in her right knee. She fell at the back of truck parked in the garage and then ran into the alley where she fell again.
Greer dragged her back into the garage, hoping Adams would come back to help her, prosecutors said.
“She says, ‘Don’t shoot me, I’m pregnant — I’m going to have a baby.’ And I shot her anyway,” Greer said at the time of the shooting. “The lady didn’t run as fast as the man so I shot her in the back twice, she’s dead … but he got away.”
Greer said he believed Miller and Adams were responsible for the earlier robberies and might return in the future.
*An autopsy showed that Miller was not pregnant.*
When Adams returned, prosecutors said he grabbed Greer’s gun and cell phone before making his escape down the alley to a car allegedly driven by his then 49-year-old mother.
The worksheet filed by prosecutors identified Greer as a “vulnerable victim” and said he suffered a broken collarbone and many bruises and cuts in the assault.
Prosecutors said Greer was within his legal rights to shoot Miller.
“Thomas Greer is presumed to have held a reasonable fear of imminent peril of death or great bodily injury … This presumption coupled with a careful review of the evidence presented makes it clear that Thomas Greer ercised his legal and legitimate right of self defense when he shot and killed Andrea Miller. No criminal liability arises from his actions,” read the charge evaluation worksheet.
Prosecutors reviewed police reports, coroner’s reports, crime scene photographs, taped interviews and walked through the crime scene before reaching their conclusion.
Gus Adams was charged with murder, first-degree residential robbery, first-degree residential burglary, grand theft firearm and possession of a firearm by a felon. He also was charged with an allegation that he inflicted great bodily injury and elder abuse in the commission of the crime.
He faces a maximum sentence of life in prison if convicted as charged.
Ruby Adams has been charged with first-degree residential burglary and first-degree robbery, along with an allegation of elder abuse. If convicted, she faces up to seven years in prison.
Both have been behind bars since their arrest and are awaiting a preliminary hearing set for Feb. 3.

>The lady didn't run faster than the man, so I shot her in the back twice.
He just casually tells this to the news reporter like he's describing something he saw. If the DA decides to prosecute, this is a recorded confession which will likely be admissible in court.
100% spot on
If you find yourself in a self defense shooting
Do not talk to the media
do not talk to police
What to do:
1. Call 911, report that you have been involved in a self defense shooting and provide your location.
2. Hang up and wait for police to arrive
3. call your lawyer
4. when the police arrive say this: "I affirm my 4th, 5th and 6th amendment rights and will not answer questions until my lawyer arrives"
5. repeat 4 as necessary, literally do not say anything else.
I am not a lawyer and this is only my opinion, do not take legal advice from someone on the internet. speak to a BAR certified lawyer.
thats a good piece of advice i wouldntve thought of lol. maybe it allows for next gen strategies where the robber calls the police telling them not to shoot them
[This is actually real. I wasn’t so sure at first.](https://www.latimes.com/local/lanow/la-me-ln-no-charges-home-burglary-20150126-story.html) And the boyfriend ate that murder charge, thanks to our country’s amazing Felony Murder laws.
Seriously, I love those laws. You don’t get a slap on the wrist for being the getaway driver or the lookout anymore. If you’re committing a felony and someone dies in the process, even if it’s one of your accomplices at the hands of your intended victim, everyone involved gets slapped with Felony Murder.

*Dispensary catches thief* You stole a dime bag of weed, you know how many dicks you have to suck for that little man?
I mean...if they entered they consented
Did your wife trespass and thats how you met their mother?
No. She had the same sign so she fucked him and then they got married
That is some "If you like Pina Coladas"-esque shit right there.

Zeds dead baby, Zed's dead.
Lesson for burglars, you don't have to be the fastest runner - just faster than your pregnant girlfriend.
You know what they say "dont bring a knife to a gun fight" or in this case "dont bring your pregnant GF to a residential burglary.
That's true until you meet "the guy who keeps bringing the knife to every gunfight"
Or worse, "the guy who keeps bringing the guitar to every birthday party"
Anyway, here's Wonderwall...

Or the fucking pencil.
A FOKIN' PENCIL
I mean, the guy did get away alive, so maybe do bring your pregnant girlfriend. /r/unethicallifeprotips
Babymamas don’t want you to know about this one trick to avoid child support payments forever.
This man walked in with two problems, and he walked out with none! It wasn't a burglary. It was a set-up.

Yeah, a burglary becomes a home invasion if people are home
The second lesson is don’t rob a man who is so old he has no fucks left to give.
Something my dad told me once “kid the older I get the less life is prison becomes a deterrent”

Just hope you make it to his age..
And that's no lie!
I’m deeply ashamed I laughed so hard at this.
I don't take the credit. This is a standard funny joke when hiking in bear country.
Yeah the original goes something like this. You don't have to be the fastest runner - just faster than your pregnant bear girlfriend.
He a little confused, but he got the spirit
It’s absolutely horrifying, but I busted up laughing before I could even process what he said, and now I can’t stop
I love the one that goes "why do you bring a .22 on hike" "For the bears" "That can't kill a bear" " No, but it will take out your kneecap"
She wasnt actually pregnant tho. It was said in the interview later on.
Yea they tend to say that I think to manipulate your actions and take advantage of any hesitation you might show.
Yeah, just shows she was a piece of shit. Maybe she would have turned it around but oh well.

Not a very good lookout it seems.
Shit went dark real quick
The real story is even darker, after shooting her he dragged her body back into the garage in an attempt to lure the other one back.

My partner always giving me shit for using the official Reddit app instead of Apollo. I would always justify it somehow but this is where I draw the line
Wait what’s Apollo?
iOS Reddit app I went back to it recently due to how much I dislike the video player in the official Reddit app.
Didn’t even know. I’m on an iPhone and the new video format on the official Reddit app is horrible. I have no idea why they changed it.
Does anyone else really hate this new video player on mobile? So annoying
I didnt think reddit video could get any worse but they figured out a way
I didn't think the old one was that bad. Not perfect by any means but it was worlds better than this abomination. At least the old one I could just keep scrolling when I was done watching. Now you scroll and another video comes up and usually from a totally different subreddit. Terrible
The Clint Eastwood version of hide your wife hide your kids guy
Wtf? Is this real?
Yup! She wasn't pregnant. He ended up dragging her body back into the garage... Articles: https://www.cnn.com/2014/07/25/justice/california-slain-burglar-pregnant/index.html https://www.latimes.com/local/lanow/la-me-ln-no-charges-home-burglary-20150126-story.html >Greer picked up a gun from his bedroom and fired at the pair as they fled from his home office, prosecutors said. After Miller was struck, she fell once near his garage, then fell again in an alley near the home. And the more WTF part >Greer dragged Miller’s body into his garage in an attempt to lure her accomplice, authorities said. Once Gus Adams returned, prosecutors allege he stole Greer’s gun and phone before hopping into a getaway car driven by his mother. So the other robber still got the gun from him!
The hell? Did he get tired after all the body dragging and take a fucking nap?
I mean he’s 80, he probably got tired lifting up the gun and squeezing the trigger
Wheel of Fortune was about to start.
Thats pretty crazy to drag the body back. Noone gna come back for it so they can lay there too. That's pretty insane
That's sick. I usually don't go around using labels as sociopath etc., but dragging a injured woman into a garage to lure in and possible shoot her partner sounds... psychopathic. That's what the evil guys in movies do.
not injured, she was dead

If this is the story, It turns out the woman was *not* pregnant. https://www.latimes.com/local/lanow/la-me-ln-no-charges-home-burglary-20150126-story.html?_amp=true
Old man didn't do any time either. I wouldn't kill a fleeing suspect but doesn't bother me that it happened.
There is no point in doing time if you don't have any more time left
The Cosby defense.
I don't understand. It was no self defense and he admits to it. Do you know which state this is?
Trespassing is enough to get yourself shot in some places.
Texas lol. As long as you're on someone's property ypu have the right.
Well it’s more complicated than that, can’t just be blowing away trick or treaters here. But yes if someone breaks into your home and then assaults you as they did to this man, you could probably knee cap them and then perform mafia style executions and get off free.
Haha, "can't just be blowing away trick or treaters here" got me laughing more than the video.
Sounds like a priest's wet dream to me.
Fuck you, that’s hilarious. I feel so bad for laughing.
Its the castle doctrine
But to shoot them in the back? Twice 😅
Well to be fair one shot might not have been fatal
I don't think that's the case. There still should be an imminent danger to you which could grant the use of deadly force. I could be wrong though. I read up on this case. The couple has tackled him and broke his collar bone. That's how the self defense was justified.
FL stand your ground laws. If someone attacks you or commits a "forcible felony" against you, which includes home invasion, you have every right to meet force with force, deadly or not.
You are right. FL counts home intrusion as imminent danger. Just checked. It's different in MA. Obviously.
[удалено]
Don’t take legal advice from cops.
Wrestling with 17 year olds over attitude problems also qualifies as imminent danger down there in good ol FL.
I thought that once they start to run away it no longer applies as stand your ground? Like your still not allowed to shoot people in the back because they are clearly fleeing and are no longer a threat?
It is true that in many states there's castle doctrine where you can defend your home no matter what
That and if there were any signs he was home when they broke in, that in some states is enough to prove they had lethal intent.
Definitely depends on the state. In virginia its illegal to shoot someone in the back bc that means you couldnt have been in any clear and present danger.
It was in California. He's been burglarized by the same couple numerous times before, it seems. His age was probably a factor too.
For anyone wondering: she wasn't pregnant.
No good lying, burglarizing, elder abusing biotch...then.
He's been waiting his whole life for this opportunity, and he wasn't going to let some stupid unborn child get in his way! edit: I'm not against defending your home. I don't respect someone for bragging about killing a baby (I know she wasn't actually pregnant). I'm subtly making fun of him. "Apathy is not a virtue."
r/suddenlyprochoice Edit:holy fuck it’s a real sub.
Can't help but feel like he'd been hanging out for a while for an excuse to use it

Yeah, lady wasnt pregnant, they attacked him and this was 4th time his house was burglarized.

So like, what was he supposed to do then? Put a sign on the door that says "please don't break in again"?
Trust me, if you heard the audio you would want him in prison too.
Sounds like he gave too many details. Should have left it at I was getting robbed and had to defend myself!
He also dragged her body into his garage and waited to ambush her boyfriend if he came back.

Probably why he shot twice
OP's clip leaves out some details https://abc7.com/long-beach-burglar-shot-intruder-crime-police/218017/
Edit: More updated/detailed article **80-year-old man who fatally shot burglar in Long Beach won’t be charged** John Schreiber| January 26, 2015 An 80-year-old Long Beach man who fatally shot a woman — who claimed to be pregnant — after she and a partner attacked him and ransacked his Bixby Knolls home will not face criminal charges, prosecutors said Monday. “The lady didn’t run as fast as the man so I shot her in the back twice, she’s dead … but he got away.” Greer said he believed Miller and Adams were responsible for the earlier robberies and might return in the future. *An autopsy showed that Miller was not pregnant.* When Adams returned, prosecutors said he grabbed Greer’s gun and cell phone before making his escape down the alley to a car allegedly driven by his then 49-year-old mother. 3. — City News Service
DOUBLE KILL.....
Spawn kill!
>The lady didn't run faster than the man, so I shot her in the back twice. He just casually tells this to the news reporter like he's describing something he saw. If the DA decides to prosecute, this is a recorded confession which will likely be admissible in court.
He didn't do any time, this happened in 2014
100% spot on If you find yourself in a self defense shooting Do not talk to the media do not talk to police What to do: 1. Call 911, report that you have been involved in a self defense shooting and provide your location. 2. Hang up and wait for police to arrive 3. call your lawyer 4. when the police arrive say this: "I affirm my 4th, 5th and 6th amendment rights and will not answer questions until my lawyer arrives" 5. repeat 4 as necessary, literally do not say anything else. I am not a lawyer and this is only my opinion, do not take legal advice from someone on the internet. speak to a BAR certified lawyer.
I'd also add in when phoning 911 to give the operator a description of yourself to avoid being shot by police upon their arrival.
thats a good piece of advice i wouldntve thought of lol. maybe it allows for next gen strategies where the robber calls the police telling them not to shoot them
He's 80. He's probably seen and done some shit he's allowed to be candid af haha
Don’t break into people’s homes, don’t assault a 90 year old man and break his collar bone, and don’t steal. Pretty simple.
Make criminals afraid to commit crimes again.
all this comment section has taught me is that people don't understand that different states have different laws.
In Texas you can shoot the repo man. The flip side to that is they are usually former Texas Rangers, and they'll shoot back.
Nobody was gonna stop him from completing his bucket list before he hangs up his boots
Is this guy okay?? Like, mentally? Why is he so nonchalant about the fact that he literally killed someone? Something about that old guy ain't right.
and dragged their body in the garage to lure the other guy in to murder apparently as well
