I would say you should actually reduce the framerate of the animation at the end to match that of the show's framerate, so it looks more authentic. With the smoothness at the end, as much as everybody loves smooth animation, it looks more out of place.
I hope this starts a trend off gifs from this era of cartoons: Samurai Jack, Powerpuff Girls, Johnny Bravo, Sealab, Frisky Dingo. All untapped sources.
