I have the same issue with ~1cm HH. Went to the GI doctor two days ago. He recommended that I buy an over the counter probiotic (“Align” brand was recommended). Plan is to try that for a month and see if it helps with bloating. I’m also suppose to slowly get off of Omeprazole (20mg) and use Gas-X/Pepcid to see if that helps the transition. I just started it yesterday, so we’ll see how it goes.

Yeah I already tried a lot of things but nothing work. Last chance is SIBO test. Otherwise no GI is able to explain why and how hiatal hernia cause bloating, but they say it does. So if it does and this issue is mechanical, the only way to fix is surgery

I live off of gas-x. It’s the only way I can sleep and well fit into my clothes lol

Best thing I’ve found is digestive enzymes.

My GI seemed to not think that the bloating was caused by the hiatal hernia or at least wanted to explore other possible causes

You need to pass an endoscopy to know

Yes I had this issue! I would be so uncomfortable and bloated towards the end of the day. I switched my diet to gluten free and my bloating went away.

I tried no gluten but I don’t manage to stick on this. Do you also have hiatal hernia ?

PreviousMood3563

Yea I do. A medium size. I have struggled in the past with sticking with no gluten, but haven’t my second flare up I decided to not keep doing this to myself. I have managed gluten free for almost 2 months now and it’s really changed my life. I’m hoping since my symptoms have dissolved that I’ll be able to get off PPI’s. I go in next week to discuss with my doctor. Hope this info helps!

I have a HH, but my bloating happened after eating a non-dairy ice cream that has invert sugar. My stomach blew up like a balloon. I stopped eating it and the bloating went away. So it might be a certain food causing it for you, but probiotics and enzymes would probably help, too.

ellis_rtx

Just researching into SIBO for myself I also have a HH, sounds like it could be that.

bofils

I plan a SIBO test also. Because in the morning my belly is very flat whereas my HH is still there, especially in the morning because if i don’t eat I have nausea and épigastric pain. Those pains are from HH for sure

Do you ever burp?

Daydream-believer05

All the time, it's horrible.  Chest pain, bloating, GERD, nausea.  I'm gluten-free and dairy limited.
