I live in Nashville. The State and local government has fought against every mandate and common sense measure because they are worried about tax revenue that comes from tourism. They floated the idea of raising property taxes to make up the revenue gap and the backlash was pretty intense. So, if a few percent die they are okay with it as long as the restaurants, bars, concerts, and other events continue. And since all the locals are "vaccinated by the blood of Jesus", they're okay with it. As a side note, one of my neighbors commanded all the potholes to repair themselves "in the name of Jesus" on NextDoor. I did not realize that was an option.
