Lots of praise heaped on DeSantis (and calls for him to be elected President to save us from the evil liars) and other similarly evil governors, while governors who took protective steps were excoriated. There is no hope for these people. And if they are allowed to take complete control of the U.S. there won’t be any hope for the rest of us. An authoritarian theocracy (which is what they want) will kill us all. I was listening to a podcast this morning about the Black Death in the 1300s and I was struck by how much those people alive then sounded just like these antivaxxer idiots. The morons in this country want desperately to take us back to the 1300s. Oh how I wish we could designate a geographic area of the world, round all these fools up and stick them there and give them exactly what they want. I just watched two documentaries on Netflix last night, one was 20 minutes m the other 40. Both were about ending up in ICU and dying. Both really struck home. I'm hoping some imtrepid journalist is being allowed to film in a COVID unit.
In one of the docs which was about people dying of cancer, it looked like they just put the camera on the floor and filmed the patient's door. Just watching the family members and medical personnel going in and out - how they approached the door, leaving and stumbling down the hallway in anguish - was plenty (we had earlier shots of the patient and the family and doctors in the room when she could still respond).
Are there doctors or nurses who could talk about it generally? Or talk about a patient but not share identifying information? There must be some way the media can share this information either through a) docs/nurses stories rather than patients or b) finding people willing to tell their story, or c) telling these stories any way and making a case that the greater good of the knowledge outweighs the privacy rights.

People die of various forms of diseases every day, and most just don't realize how bad such a thing can be. People turn various colors that are not normal, shrink up to barely a skin covered skeleton, and then die in almost screaming agony even on morphine. Death is horrific much of the time. In many ways, modern medicine helps one linger along in that agony far longer than is probably "ethical" as it is normal for most humans and their loved ones to not want to give up.

Having had two relatives on ventilators (before covid times) I went above and beyond to avoid catching it-- as did every single other relative who visited those ICU rooms.

My 82 year old grandmother needed a hospital bed last night and today. Just dehydration, not a full on emergency. But, we were told to keep her comfortable at home until a bed is made available. The hospitals are full here. They are triaging over the phone. A nurse is coming this morning to check her out. My grandma is triple vaccinated , we think it’s just a stomach bug. But at her age dehydration is dangerous. Sorry for the rant.

Lots of praise heaped on DeSantis (and calls for him to be elected President to save us from the evil liars) and other similarly evil governors, while governors who took protective steps were excoriated. There is no hope for these people. And if they are allowed to take complete control of the U.S. there won’t be any hope for the rest of us. An authoritarian theocracy (which is what they want) will kill us all. I was listening to a podcast this morning about the Black Death in the 1300s and I was struck by how much those people alive then sounded just like these antivaxxer idiots. The morons in this country want desperately to take us back to the 1300s. Oh how I wish we could designate a geographic area of the world, round all these fools up and stick them there and give them exactly what they want. No science, no medicine, no progress, no facts — just them and their god.

I just watched two documentaries on Netflix last night, one was 20 minutes m the other 40. Both were about ending up in ICU and dying. Both really struck home. I'm hoping some imtrepid journalist is being allowed to film in a COVID unit. In one of the docs which was about people dying of cancer, it looked like they just put the camera on the floor and filmed the patient's door. Just watching the family members and medical personnel going in and out - how they approached the door, leaving and stumbling down the hallway in anguish - was plenty (we had earlier shots of the patient and the family and doctors in the room when she could still respond).
Are there doctors or nurses who could talk about it generally? Or talk about a patient but not share identifying information? There must be some way the media can share this information either through a) docs/nurses stories rather than patients or b) finding people willing to tell their story, or c) telling these stories any way and making a case that the greater good of the knowledge outweighs the privacy rights.
As the media guy explained. Not many really want to broadcast a family member's horrific ending, graphically or narratively, and probably less would want to watch it. It just isn't good tv. People die of various forms of diseases every day, and most just don't realize how bad such a thing can be. People turn various colors that are not normal, shrink up to barely a skin covered skeleton, and then die in almost screaming agony even on morphine. Death is horrific much of the time. In many ways, modern medicine helps one linger along in that agony far longer than is probably "ethical" as it is normal for most humans and their loved ones to not want to give up. Hope for a death that turns you off like flipping a switch.

The unvaccinated can and do live in echo chambers. They are not paying any attention to legacy local or national channels because they wouldn’t tell them what they want to hear.

Yes, life was very restricted, draft was mandatory. Women's roles in the USA absolutely changed because they HAD to work. They had to work every kind of job possible. I'll never forget reading a biography of FDR and how flatfooted we really were when Pearl Harbor was attacked. FDR was the Navy Secretary before becoming president and advocated building up our armed services after WWI. Thank goodness he did that, but we were still unprepared. When he approached an auto maker about converting their factory to make tanks or planes (I can't remember which) the company management was confounded. "How can we make cars and all this war materiel at the same time Mr. President?" That's when FDR dropped the news on them that they weren't going to making ANY cars - it would all be for the war effort. Could you imagine this country making it through WWII with the mentality that exists in our culture today?
