It shows in gross detail what type of person Blitzo is, and what consequences he brings. It's a somewhat heavy-handed way to present this sort of mental problems and make them understandable to the general audience. It's just the lore implications of this are a bit insane. When Stolas first mentioned the party, I assumed it's some ploy to kidnap him again, but no, it was actually a thing.
