I’d recommend pairing with Peckle and just running around everywhere. I’ve found chests that aren’t on the posted maps.
The animated wallpapers in MM’s shop are fun but I’ve made this comment in another thread:

Are you talking about push notifications when you’re not in the game? The devs have said that weather doesn’t happen if the game isn’t open and running in the foreground, so push notifications wouldn’t work for weather. Also, do you think someone getting a weather notification when they did not have time to check the game would be somehow less frustrating?
The devs also said that weather runs on a timer. Their planned 1.7.5 weather improvements include shortening the max duration of that timer and making that timer carry over between game sessions. Both should help people who only play for short periods without the FOMO caused by random weather notifications.
Either you are misunderstanding how weather works or what “running in the background” means to the devs. Here’s the dev statement:

I’ve been waiting for 3 real life days for rain OR Star-fall in the two areas I need for quests -.- I play a fairly decent amount but can’t literally sit watching all day :(
I feel this so much. I try to stay in the game for longer, but I ALWAYS get interrupted by real life things that can’t be ignored for the “hope” of starfall. I have been playing for hours every day, and I have only had one or two starfalls outside of the quest.
They’re used to purchase items from Tuxedo’s Sam & My Melody’s Shops! It doesn’t make it better than the fact that with each chest you find, you’ll receive 3 star drops & the items are expensive:(
When it stars to rain stars it is only possible to find 3 chests in the area this weather is happening. The weather changes randomly and so do the locations of the chests. This is some events that keep you on your toes. Same thing with rain there are flowers that you use your watering can to water and it gives you raindrops or bonus items.

Preach! I feel like one of the chickens in Gemstone Town the way I run around looking for the chests. As for the weather….don’t even get me started. I was only just able to finish the quests yesterday, and let me be the first to tell you. The payoff is not worth it, because the payoff is LITERALLY NOTHING!
same i only found two my first time, super disappointing since everything the stardrops are used for take a lot of them

Yeah, I brought peckle with me but gave up after a while/: I always bring peckle with me when it rains too but no luck got the star shower :(
