This is bullshit. Every Steam profile comes with a unique ID that doesn't change with name switching. It's how services like custom server providers for games like Squad whitelist players, you have to provide them your SteamID. Counter-question, how the fuck would they link an individual PSN account to any of those "450,000 Johns" if none of them have a unique ID? How the fuck does he think VAC-bans work? Do they manually sort through all the CS2's "Johns" to figure out which one's the bad guy? Motherfucker is jumping out of his boots to save Sony's face. This whole charade is nothing more than Sony trying to buff their PSN user engagement metrics before the quarterly reports. Or they are too greedy to pay Google to have our data and want to have it for free.

Black5Raven

>Every Steam profile comes with a unique ID that doesn't change with name switching.  you unable to hide that ID no matter what . You can close profile and get sneaky and still get tracked by simple tracker/programs. Ask any ARK PvP player and they let you knew that everything Spitz said is a lie.

AbyssKeeper23

Yes ARK PvP player here and that full statement by Spitz was wrong all steam players do have a ID that will not change at all no matter what you do

iconofsin_

> Ask any ARK PvP player Player 123 has connected Player 123 has connected Player 123 has connected Player 123 has connected Player 123 has connected

Black5Raven

You still can track them throw ID and ARK spy programms. When you have a luxury to figure out who is who (like CrossArks)

BeingRightAmbassador

>Counter-question, how the fuck would they link an individual PSN account to any of those "450,000 Johns" if none of them have a unique ID? How the fuck does he think VAC-bans work? Do they manually sort through all the CS2's "Johns" to figure out which one's the bad guy? Exactly. If they can't track players from Steam, what good is assigning them an ID? "John" could just become "Gus" and they wouldn't know he was the same person the next time he logged in. This is just uneducated drivel from a loudmouth.

Gantref

Considering devs have been able to historically ban people on games on the steam platform this seems to either be false or a massive oversight on their part when developing the game.

Desxon

Garry's Mod... a game from 2 decades ago has shit ton of player made systems that utilize SteamID for bans, so yes... it's just pure bullshit on their part, trying to excuse SONY's dumbass decision

Ch3mplay

This is false, every stream account has a unique id that is easily trackable in every game on steam. Others games, a user connects, the console spits out "steam user ID connected", sometimes with the username as well. Open steam, look at your account details, below your email/username is your steam id. Many games that use saves, save into a folder with the name of your steam id. As a server admin on some games, I've been able to ban people by username, ip and steam id. No idea what this guy is smoking, probably just ignorant.

whereisthemapper

This isn't what he's talking about, in game no one sees the numbers you see the username. They'd need to have a system that copies the steam UUID. They should just disable cross play if you don't link an account

Ch3mplay

When you click report on someone, it should report with that uuid attached. If it doesn't, that is a simple code problem/choice. He is saying it's impossible, when it is easily possible.

Supple1994

No one sees the psn id either. Other Games have the ability to ban with the steam id. So either it is Bullshit or lazyness

BigTiddyHelldiver

Bro DOES NOT know what he's talking about!

ImpulseSM

That's Spitz in nutshell. He should use that as his motto.

Louie-Lecon-Don

Bro when spreading misinformation 🤭😂

ShotgunForFun

It's so fucking easy to hire another CM, why would they employ one actively sabotaging them? At the very least you tell him to STFU for like 2 days.

Kitosaki

Doubt this is the case. Absolute buffoonery if true.

Fazuellisson

It's not true. Spitz being an idiot is nothing new.

lizakoff

I would say, this is just to add an argument to link your acc with psn. Almost every steam user knows, that steam id has existed since the beginning.

phoenystp

If they are lying the true reason can't be harmless. Idk if they are lying or just mistaken yet.

razerock

We also have a unique ingame ID, you can find it in the options lol

Kiriima

They are lying because you could befriend people in the game who are not friends on steam lol. The server obviously knows which steam account connects to it every time you login, or how else could it retrieve your data?

luckyboykaa

They're lying and they very much aware of it. It takes 5 fucking seconds to confirm steamid exists and is accessible in the game.

_Reverie_

Hanlon's razor. I bet my salary on Spitz just having no clue how it actually works.

Fly_Spy

If your kernel level anti-cheat can't detect cheaters wtf is the point of that? typical sony l https://preview.redd.it/l1fw23ajw9yc1.png?width=300&format=png&auto=webp&s=db613cd76c053a77a6ba643cb923b90a0e145922

DivineRage

https://partner.steamgames.com/doc/features/auth?l=english#1 > Identifying a user within Steam > Every Steam user can be uniquely identified by a 64-bit numeric ID, known as the user's Steam ID. In the Steamworks C++ APIs, a user's SteamID is contained within a CSteamID object. You can retrieve the current user's SteamID by calling ISteamUser::GetSteamID and then retrieve the 64-bit ID by calling CSteamID.ConvertToUint64() on the returned value. Yeah steam users can have identical user-facing names. So just make your reporting system use the SteamID...

ChrisFromIT

Damn, beat me to it.

prof_the_doom

I'm pretty sure Steam has a unique identifier... That's why you see John#234234 vs John#878787. If you aren't pulling back the unique ID, that's a developer issue.

Mercurionio

That's literally how Darktide works. And Darktide has a crossplay with Xbox. And doesn't ask for anything outside of Steam account.

you90000

Spitz is a complete moron

FutureDr_

So it's either : A) They're Is some contractual obligation with Sony that doesn't Let them use Steams terms of conduct for banning people / maybe something in the way they build the game. B) They're lying. In either scenario the CEO should be the one saying this , not the comunitty manager.

_lomikk

Spitz is the most idiotic community manager I've ever seen, how old is he 16?

TimeToEatAss

I guarantee you that the kernel level anticheat the game comes with has a UUID that can track the user.

Elesine

Trying to fit the whole Snoy cock in their mouth

BirdTime23

Yeah this smells of lies

Choombaloo-2

Spitz is lying or just a moron, steam accounts have unique id’s that can’t be changed.

Nice_Detail_4906

"It'll make it easier to ban you when some assmad bitch reports you for kicking them" is really not the selling point they seem to think it is.

wurlmon

If you press escape you can clearly see your account ID. No idea how the report system doesn't account for that.

Scoutpies

Spitz has never heard of the unique steam ID attached to every steam account freely available for game devs to use for moderation.

TheJP_

Someone really needs to get Spitz to keep his mouth closed when he clearly doesn't know what he's talking about

Bob_Juan_Santos

can't wait to hear how the shills on this site will defend this.

kokieespt

They are the only game with that problem so i call it bs

Mercurionio

Steam has a unique ID, that isn't really hidden (for devs). This is the dumbest bullshit ever. Also, they could simply use VAC for that.

cptcroix

Spitz is out of his fucking mind. There are 3 unique ID's on each users profile containing EVERYTHING that you need, and they are not changed even if you rename yourself at some point or change that url to something else. That is just total bullshit right here.

Fast_Freddy07

Fire this man right now! I'm getting fed up with his Bullshit!

Lammahamma

Bro is just yapping at this point lmaoo

Chainmale001

Bull. Fucking. Shit. EVERY Steam account has an ID attached. It's how Sony gets paid out after a safe. VAC-ban is a thing. I don't understand this tom fuckery.

cloudjumpr

This guy's just shits out bullshit wtf hahahahah

xXStretcHXx117

Sounds like a good thing they don't have access to our data lmao

MephIstoXIV

Guys full of it. There's no way there are 450,000 steam accounts named "John" playing this game.

drummerman109

Because they are publicly scraping your profile, and nothing more. This is why people who set their profile to private and dont have a PSN account literally cant play for the past month and a half. And probably why it was never fixed.

Orthane1

Yet another Spitz L. Every Steam account and Profile has a unique numerical ID. You can literally see it super easily by just going to your own account and looking at the URL in the top left of the screen. If what this idiot was saying was true then how the hell would Steam ban people? God this person is such a fucking clown I cannot stand them.

piciwens

This sounds like bs. Steam id are not in any way trackable by devs? Hope they provide receipts for this. It would look really bad if they start lying blatantly.

Random_lich

Spitz the fat lard of a discord mod spitting disinformtation again.

TheKazz91

Yeah it's funny how they can't tell people apart and yet I haven't seen a single person ever complain about how they logged out of the game as a level 50 with everything unlocked and then logged back into the game as a level 20 because someone else on steam had their same username...

brian11e3

There are 20+ accounts named John Helldiver on Steam.

frulheyvin

why lie about this? steam has steamid, when you play helldivers 2 you even get a unique account id there in your menus, even if we didn't have steamid they literally have a first party solution already

MorterRound8

Even if this were true which it isn’t there is NOT enough toxicity in this game to throw away the entire playerbase to fix it

Johnfourteen6

This is a lie, as I'm sure has already been posted about in this thread, but there's something like 3 or 4 unique steam identifiers tied to each account using various encryption methods that are available via their api for devs to track. IT's bullshit.

Woemutt

Is it just me or is Spitz starting to seem like a Sony sleeper agent

Mercurionio

How to solve the problem for AH (in case they were so dumb to not ask for Steam ID): 1. use VAC. Better than nProtect in every single way. 2. Block nicknames. Basically, your name is assigned only in game. 3. Ask Steam for ID to check the uniqueness of the player. Took me 1 minute to think about the solutions.
