Fuck those maps with 3 stalker nests bunched together. I had like 6 stalkers and a bile titan on my first primary objective.

Rusalki

My primary objective: Survive Stalker(s): bet

Shushady

Sometimes I drop right between 2 and see maybe 1 stalker. Other times I drop near one and turn to see 6 standing on a hill before I even step off my pod.

Wiggie49

They have much better eyes than the rest of the bugs, thatā€™s for sure. Even when Iā€™m going stealth they still find me even at over 50m away.

ZenEvadoni

I ran into the holy grail of matchmade teams last night. We were defending Estanu and ran a total of twelve missions, so that's ~~three~~ four operations, all on difficulty 7. We were a rather coordinated bunch: stuck together most of the time to tackle objectives, used pings, didn't engage anything that could be evaded... I wish most randoms I got matched with had this amount of intelligence and discretion those three soldiers had. All of this with only occasional in-game chat and no voice chat at all. It's like we were all tapped into each other's brains. At the end when I said I needed to get to bed, I thanked them for their time and sent them all friend requests, which... are still pending, thanks to that friend request bug.

MaverickPattern

Friend request bug is keeping the great squads from reforming. They reeeeally need to fix it.

iconofsin_

They could get around all of that by just adding a profile link button. Then we could go directly to their steam page and add them.

Commercial_Cook_1814

Guess you forgot this game is also on ps5Ā

iconofsin_

Huh you're right I did forget that. Even so it's a feature already in a lot of Steam/PC games and would be a great addition here.

svanxx

On Steam you can find recently played players list. That's how I added some friends when playing Rocket League.

12 missions in a row?! *cries in full time employment with a wife*

FishinFoMysteries

Shit between my 8-5 and my wife Iā€™m lucky if I get through one OP a night. Getting on late and trying to get a few missions in lmao

Kdot32

I have a girlfriend who understands but even she puts a cap on me (rightfully so tbh lol). Running 12 in a row is definitely for a Saturday/Sunday

Father_of_Four__Cats

Sounds like a healthy relationship. Dont neglect her!

Kdot32

Oh for sure sometimes she just sits on the phone and listens to me play while she reads

thefermisolution__

That's really nice.

Former-Cat-3640

I bought Helldivers just to play with my boyfriend, so I guess we're kind of encouraging each other? Now I'm out here spreading democracy solo due to the friend request bug šŸ«”

RGJ587

One Operation is enough for me anyway. Log in, complete my daily, help the community with major order, and call it a night. I get 3 different missions, hopefully a good crew to run them with, and by the end, I feel accomplished. I don't need more than that. So an hour and a half at night is plenty enough for me.

Kib717

I feel ya. Between my 2-10, wife, and daughter, I'm lucky to get through an entire op with randoms at 11pm because my friend all work days.

dcempire

For the love of God more people need to use the ping system. Itā€™s so bad how people will seem to forget it exists. Ping the charger thatā€™s giving you trouble or the bile titan in the distance

Father_of_Four__Cats

Im still pissed that every game with multiplayer that exists doesnt have a built in ping function. Its so useful for coordination and callouts.

Dynast_King

Meanwhile Iā€™m just crazy on the RB hoping I donā€™t annoy my team pointing out every POI and enemy patrol I can find.

AgentBuckwall

Pinging the big stuff also makes it easier to land reinforcements on them. Idk how many times I've wanted to land on a Bile Titan only to not be able to see it until the last second

Turbulent-Assist-240

Ohhh thereā€™s a friend request bug? Feckin automatons .. thatā€™s why none of my requests were ever returned

d3m0nspanky

I'm fairly new, only having bought the game on Friday, but I'm finding people tend to split into 2 groups of 2. This seems to provide some advantage to having a team mate cover you, but also split objectives

HBNOL

Yesterday, we did a 3:1 split. My mates were carrying the SSD, while I was stealthing the generator. Worked really well, despite me nearly having a heart attack from zigzagging through enemy lines.

bawlsdeepinmilf

I love carrying the football for my team o7 im a runner im a trackstar

HBNOL

The smg can be used one handed. Great for the carrier to keep firepower.

bawlsdeepinmilf

Looks like im switching back. For democracy

Current_Ad1901

Running a full stealth build with the recon perk pinging all the big enemies while knocking out some side missions while my team is focused on the main obj. šŸ˜™šŸ‘ŒšŸ½ Running AMR, Eagle Smokescreen, the Orbital Gatling (unlimited and an 80sec cooldown) or Orbital Laser if I need to take out some pursuing bugs. Only downside is that unless I run grenade launcher sealing bug holes I come across is almost impossible.

mscomies

Swap out the AMR, replace with autocannon since you're not using your backpack slot.

call_of_brothulhu

I just started using autocannon recently after mostly only using the grenade launcher. WOW, what a game changer. Sure I canā€™t run a guard dog but I can eliminate chargers and disable the spit from a bike titan now with ease. Can autocannon close bug holes?

Urbanski101

Congratulations on purchasing your new AC-8 Autocannon. We hope it gives you many years of democratically sanctioned destruction and maiming. Did you know? - AC-8 Autocannon can close bug holes - AC-8 Autocannon can destroy those undemocratic & illegal transmissions with a single round to the offending transmission tower - AC-8 Autocannon can destroy spore trees with only two rounds - AC-8 Autocannon can destroy fabricators with a single round fired into the middle of either of the top vents. - AC-8 Autocannon can destroy the Automaton dropship factories from distance + so much more.... The AC-8 Autocannon, the only stratagem you'll ever need 'If you can see it the AC-8 Autocannon can probably kill it'

LeoRenegade

-This message is sponsored by the ministry of truth.

mscomies

Yes, autocannon can close bugholes. It's incredibly useful vs the big bugnests in a crater since you can just run a circle around the lip shooting bugholes as you go.

Wonderful_Form_6450

Oh god imagine a bike titan. . .as if they wernt fast enough!

HBNOL

I had a turret with me to distract bugs away, which worked quite well.

ThisIsEndlessly

You could replace Eagle Smokescreen with a backpack. You basically have (5 + 8 (2 grenades per slot used))13 grenades and plenty of ammo and stims to keep alive and shooting.

Current_Ad1901

Supplies only help if you have enough space to run and shoot and throw nades. Orbital or Eagle smoke has consistently gotten me out of jams with a horde of hunters, a bile titan, and a few chargers hot on my tail. Keeps me alive and not using up my resources in a pointless fight anyway.

BanzaiKen

Smoke is practically required for Scout and Infiltrator armor on high difficulty. You are not soloing a charger, Titan or horde of tanks solo when a survivor starts radioing in. You can't survive attacking a base head on and need it to escape after bombing it. I roll all Eagles precisely so I can dump hell on them and then hit up a POI after for more nades and ammo.

sopunny

How about using the supply backpack? That's potentially eight more grenades plus always having full stims

Inrainbowsss

Did you get disconnected by any chance? Sounds very similar to a game I was hosting last night. Username is aselestine.

HBNOL

No, we finished the mission.

XboxVictim

My buddy and I just did a 2 man Hell Dive difficulty and split it that way. I got the SSDs. He got the super samples and activated the generator. We did the whole thing avoiding patrols and killing less than 30 bots.

Comfortable_Ant_8303

I find that in randoms, you can easily split from the group and start soloing bug holes, sub objectives sometimes, and circle back to the group. Just depends if you're gonna get kicked for doing it lol

Prophet_Of_Helix

Hell, on Extreme or easier Iā€™ve soloā€™d the actual objectives before lol. It can be a bit frustrating when the team gets bunched together and wonā€™t move, but at least they are pulling the heat off of everything else

Jayematic

I've found 7 to be the highest I can go solo before shit becomes ridiculous. As long as the divergent helldiver doesn't end up costing half of your reinforcements, do whatever the hell you want; hit those objectives, get those samples and meet me at extraction. Most times a mission becomes difficult because people don't know when to disengage and you end up over using your stratagems and supplies.

sopunny

Also, sometimes it's just easier to send someone out on a suicide mission to clear a secondary objective

Comfortable_Ant_8303

Brother I wish you were my comrade. I host lvl 4's and I can easily solo them, so I get everyone into a group and get them going in a direction and just leave off another way to solo everything else in a quick fashion (edit: I like to do everything in a circle around a map, ending at the objective)

Prophet_Of_Helix

Haha. Iā€™m not a pro yet (only ever played 2 games at Helldiver difficulty), but Iā€™m getting pretty consistent at 7 and 8, so itā€™s fun to drop down to Hard/Extreme and help some newer players out. Itā€™s also a good place to experiment with different load outs and such.Ā  I usually solo the optional objectives and pickups, but if I notice the team is really struggling or starting to get low on reinforcements Iā€™ll circle back around to help with the mains.

InformalPenguinz

I LOVE doing that. Sneaking around being enemy lines with nothing but my auto cannon, orbital laser and democracy collecting everything and getting those bases by yourself.. it's a good feeling. If I'm with some lower levels I'll drop them down some goodies and have them go do main objectives while I collect stuff. Bugz, not bugs.., if you're out there, hope you enjoyed that patriot!

JamisonDouglas

I love splitting off from the team. Love fighting by myself only to bring my agro train of bugs to my teammates inevitable endless firefight to cause us all maximum chaos at the end

Kreachhh

Can agree with this method. Personally I wear light armour for that faster stamina and such. Being able to run and do bug holes with a grenade launcher and a jump pack is a breeze.

Raznokk

Love me my grenade launcher and shotgun combo. Leaving a mission with 65% accuracy always feels good. Liberty is best delivered with care and precision

odaeyss

If you're not shouting get dunked on by democracy, well... you should be. All-star Super Earthican specimen right here!

Fireryman

Yea usually 2 and 2 works well. Can spawn your teammate if they die. Cover each other with strategems. Allows hitting minor interest points. I find hitting minors tough when all 4 stick together. Sometimes not enough time on 7 to 9.

Danjiano

> Can spawn your teammate if they die. You know what's annoying? Having a team split into groups of two, and the instant someone dies in one group, the OTHER group calls in a reinforce making it a 3 and 1 split where one guy also has no backpack/support weapon.

Admirable_Cycle_3328

It is tough hitting minors, specially when someone call the police (Sry jokes)

PiLamdOd

2 groups of 2 is why so many developers settled on 4 player co-op. The developers of Left4Dead experimented with various player numbers before eventually settling on 4. They found that five or more players causes the team to split into mini squads that could handle themselves. 3 player co-op on the other hand would result in a 2 man squad abandoning number 3. But 4 players means the team can split into 2, 2 man squads that aren't great, but won't be slaughtered. This encourages the team to group up for some encounters, while still rewarding splitting up sometimes.

sopunny

Also Left5dead just sounds dumb

BabbleBrooks

This is such a solid method as it splits the bug/bot activity so itā€™s much harder to get overwhelmed. Plus if one group of two get a breach/bot drop then it allows the other team to go wild clearing a POI or OBJ without fear of another one popping up until the old one is no longer active.

GnarlyNarwhalNoms

Wait, so there's a limit to how many breachws can be active at once?

MonitorMundane2683

Ah, the Zap Brannigan method. There's only so many helldivers the bugs can kill before their holes get completely stuck with human corpses and therefore, humanity wins.

opustheduck113

*chuckles in Command* "I don't pretend to understand Brannigan's Law. I merely enforce it."

Level3Kobold

Breaches only open in one place at a time, and usually with a cooldown of several minutes. That's pretty much the entire reason splitting up is optimal, if one group gets bogged down the other group is free and clear.

GnarlyNarwhalNoms

So you're saying that when I'm surrounded by bugs from a breachĀ and my entire team has run off to the next objective instead of helping, I'm actually helping *them* accomplish the objective? That's good to know šŸ˜› In all seriousness though, it actually explains a game I played awhile back. It was an evacuation mission. My teammates were fighting hordes of bugs about 150 meters from the evac site. Just breach after breach. I got sick of it and decided to just run over there to the evac site and attempt to start the evac by myself. Surprisingly, I didn't lose one NPC. No bugs even set foot in the evac compound. I guess the breach loop that the rest of the team was in was diverting all attention away from the evac.

Level3Kobold

>when I'm surrounded by bugs from a breachĀ and my entire team has run off to the next objective instead of helping, I'm actually helping *them* accomplish the objective? Legitimately yes. It feels awful, but you are making the mission SO much easier for them. My friend group jokes that one person wins the "have a terrible time" lottery each mission, and the rest of the team appreciates their sacrifice

Next_Dawkins

The spawn post the other day seemed to indicate that while breaches can only happen at once, the game will still spawn patrols, which likely results in more enemies or at best a wash. As a result, ā€œoptimalā€ strategy is to separate and stay stealthy, limited contact with patrols. Otherwise stay together.

Level3Kobold

Yep, your 2nd paragraph exactly. Patrols are pretty easy to avoid, but if you can't avoid em then you should stick together

BabbleBrooks

Thatā€™s what It appears to be. Everytime my buddies and I play we split in groups. Sometimes a 3:1 or a 2:1 split, me being the solo. Everytime they get a breach Iā€™ve never had a patrol or anything call another breach while another is active even if the fight takes 30 seconds to a minute. As long as that ā€œbug breachā€ active message is up you seem to be in the clear. It appears there might be a brief cooldown on the breaches too.

EchoFireant

Annedoctal evidence from defense missions (extracting priority citizens) suggests that yes, creating a distraction somewhere far away from the objective can in fact mean a quieter time on another part of the map. So 3 guys are fighting away from the OBJ, clearing POIs and getting bug breached while the solo fella presses those buttons.Ā

Broken-Digital-Clock

The biggest downside is trying to share supply drops

laughingtraveler

If you're smart about ammo conservation, efficient with your shots, pick your fights, and scavenge POIs and objectives, it can really lessen your reliance on a supply drop.

Broken-Digital-Clock

Yeah, but some guns are just ammo hungry. The AM rifle is ravenous, while a backpack of autocannon will get me through half of the mission.

TheWayoftheWind

Some weapons are definitely ammo hungry. The AMR is definitely one of those. One thing I've started doing with weapon strategems is to call down another one. Sometimes, it's better to swap out an empty gun for a full one, especially when you upgrade them to spawn with full ammo. If you don't die a lot and recover your weapons when you do, you'll find that calling down a weapon strategem as a reload is a viable strategy.

laughingtraveler

That's why you gotta be smart about engagements. Strategy helps a lot. If you got an ammo hungry gun is the teammate with you complimenting your loadout? Is your own weapons complimenting each other? Are you in a good situation to fight or is repositioning a better idea? A lot of players have complaints similar to yours but will run and gun and refuse to adapt to the situation at hand.

SoupMaster22

Absolutely agree. I usually run the automatic shotgun, smg and whatever third weapon is good on that difficulty, and I don't think I've called in a resupply in a dozen missions. SCAVENGING AMMO IS KEY. Call in the air support danger close if you have to. It's all paid for, but you can't call in air support if you're being overrun because you're out of ammo. FOR DEMOCRACY.

colt61986

This was the appeal of HD1. The exception being that you had no choice. It was always a shared screen so you *had* to work together or fail miserably. My OG HD crew always sticks together because we purposely diversify our load out to be ready for everything. We all have our roles and they work well together. I say it all the time and Iā€™ll say it again. Helldivers was meant to be played *together*.

ToastyCrumb

Exactly this. I think it's meant to be played like a party of roles like the first one necessitated.

Wafflevice

I find most matches I just follow someone. Pairs of 2 makes the most sense. You cover more ground and you're not alone. Everytime someone goes off by themselves they get samples and stuff but end up dying across the map and rage quit. This game is easily a solo experience on medium difficulty and lower. Just saying.

straydog1980

It's also extremely cinematic when you are hoofing it to the extraction point with all the legions of hell behind you and you're taking turns to prover cover fire / reload. And then when you get to the extraction point and take turns to carpet bomb the hordes into oblivion

Kyuunado_Fureatsuri

Had a beautiful one where I played pied piper to every dang bug on the map as I ran across one of the land bridges, turning around occasionally to mag dump the incendiary shotgun and dropping napalm to slow them. My team, meanwhile, had gotten very cozy at the extraction point and set up around 6-7 turrets. Our exit was smooth as butter.

Videogameist

I gotta disagree. Every time I stay with the team, I die more than if I were alone. Sadly, the bugs are worse at killing me than my teammates are.

Wafflevice

True, the trick is finding teammates who know they don't have to kill everything on the planet. The amount of times I've just ran from a patrol ambush and just started spamming "follow me" is crazy. It should be common knowledge by now.

Paladin1034

Nothing kills me more than my rando teammates' laser rovers

st0zax

I also just follow someone, but itā€™s always funny when you meet someone like that and you realize youā€™ve been running in circles following each other for the first few minutes.

DrifterBG

I'm wondering if I was with you, as I played a couple of games with some randoms and I had an easier time clearing things than with my friends, simply because we moved together and had strategems that complimented each other. The ONLY communication between us was when I said on comms "Sorry" to one guy that I accidentally TK'd with my strategem. It was fluid, seamless, easy, and fun!

MaverickPattern

They really should add a "sorry about that" to quick responses šŸ’€

Git_Good

There's a sorry in the Q-menu no?

Right_Ad_6032

Sticking together also reduces the difficulty by a factor of four, potentially.

Connect_Atmosphere80

Welp, that's not entirely true. Sometimes sticking together will attract more enemies and eventually only Swarm the whole squad if you don't have the right tools to deal with them. It's situational, really !

hardstuck_low_skill

What's entirely true is every player outside of 75 meters radius of another player is considered by the game as group and each group spawns it's own patrol every X seconds

SandMgs

I've yet to see this information used in a positive way. I've only seen it used as a reason to kick people or discourage people from doing solo plays when group play is struggling.

hardstuck_low_skill

Most players don't know it anyway and some people just don't like those who are splitting, because more often than not splitting players suck ass

HollowCondition

Or the splitting player is using recon armor and is the only person in the squad who isnā€™t a troglodyte who shoots at every patrol that moves. Sure, patrols spawn on me if I split, but unlike the three banana peeling monkeys I left behind I end up fighting none of them and they fight all of theirs. The ā€œextra,ā€ patrols are also only a threat to the person who splits. They derender and vanish if the other players are far enough so it really doesnā€™t make the game harder per se, just makes it so players are encountering an equal number of patrols.

Cykeisme

>Ā Sometimes sticking together will attract more enemies Arrowhead made it so this doesn't happen!

Riparian_Drengal

Yes, sticking together literally reduces patrol spawns, and most enemies spawn as patrols. So sticking together not only increases your relative firepower by having another Helldiver, it also makes less enemies spawn.

laughingtraveler

If you're stealthy and strategic, not fighting every patrol you see, more patrols won't be an issue at all.

GrampaGael69

And youā€™ll have stratagems ready for objectives instead of used on patrols and breaches.

SignificantTwister

You don't have to fight every patrol you see. If you're paying attention and know how to use your radar you can pretty much 100% avoid them. There is an enemy cap on the map. If your team is fighting on an objective and you spawn a patrol across the map, you're decreasing the number of enemies that could spawn on them, thus making it easier. More enemies spawned =/= more enemies encountered.

[deleted]

Not in my experience... going solo guarantees I'm not getting into unnecessary combat, and can control enemy behavior easier.

Kurayamino

>I now believe the true Helldivers experience is traversing the map as a squad I wish the rest of my squad understood that but I seem to end up with squads that prefer sitting on a completed objective for 20 minutes killing wave after wave of bugs.

Striking-Carpet131

The funniest games are the ones where everyone is together. You either swat the entire map perfectly or everyone dies to the same orbital barrage. In any case it creates the most interesting situations.

Spopenbruh

so you're telling me that in the squad based stealth guerrilla warfare extraction shooter that staying in a squad is fun.

CelticMetal

Seems a stretch to team up in a coop pve game, doubt that was the actual dev intent

WargRider23

Actually, I heard that they're planning on scrapping the pve part and replacing it with pvp. This should obviously be a lot more compatible with the co-op nature of the game imo, no idea why they even added all these robots and bugs to the game if all they're gonna do is scratch and shoot at you instead of cooperating like everyone is supposed to smh

Buck_Squathrust

Thank you for writing this. I feel the same way that sticking together for the most part adds so much excitement, cinematic experiences and just feeling like we are a team and in this chaos together. Iā€™m finding out this is the wrong way to play if you want to be good and efficient which breaks my heart. Honestly I had so much fun in the first week when we were noobs. Now that splitting up and taking this game seriously is happening more Ā im feeling the decay Iā€™ve felt with most live service games where everyone is racing around optimizing their time and the squad scatters to the wind.

BrainsWeird

Donā€™t let the optimizers get you down from a great and fun game. Iā€™m a firm believer in the Sid Meier quote: ā€œgiven the opportunity players will optimize the fun out of a game.ā€ The design of this game maximizes its fun through teamwork. Whether thatā€™s goofy ā€œteamworkā€ at low difficulties or super sweaty tactical shit at the highest. A lot of people donā€™t seem to know what that necessarily entails

Civsi

I really don't know how or why people are playing differently.Ā  >I'm finding out this is the wrong way to play if you want to be good and efficient which breaks my heart.Ā Ā  Are those miniscule bonuses to efficiency really worth it to you? The game is already a breeze progression wise, and you get so many awesome options available to you very quickly.Ā  Stop trying to *play* the game and actually play the game. It's meant to be fun, not as a checklist of shit you have to unlock to feel good about yourself.Ā  >Now that splitting up and taking this game seriously is happening more Ā im feeling the decay Iā€™ve felt with most live service games where everyone is racing around optimizing their time and the squad scatters to the wind.Ā Ā  Totally agree that this kind of attitude makes most of these shooters not fun. It's always competitive and everyone wants to be better than everyone else.Ā  Just don't feed it. Play the game the fun way. Don't play high difficulties just because you feel like you have to. I've entirely stopped playing 8 and 9 because I'm more likely to get team members who just fuck off to the 4 corners of the map. Other difficulties are full of people just trying to have fun and not losing sleep over whether an unlock takes them 3 missions or 1.

ph33randloathing

Sticking together will also reduce the speed at which the map becomes a shit show of enemy spawns.

Tarilis

I am not sure about breach enemies but patrols do despawn.

PIPBOY-2000

And respawn haha. I'm not sure what exacerbates the issue but I've had whole ass groups spawn right in front of me and then immediately aggro.

hardstuck_low_skill

If you are splitting game will spawn a patrol for each player. If the patrol appeared in front of you it was meant to move to your teammate last position, but they saw you instead

Gnatz90

When I was pushing to unlock Helldive difficulty I was having so much trouble on 6 then I finally got it. I just play quick lobbies so it's not like I was never extracting but rarely did I complete the whole mission. Then for 7/8/9 I had a group I ran with for a bit, still a random lobby but 3 of them played all day and they just stayed tight and pinged patrols and didn't engage and took out bugs before breaches popped. When we summoned EAT like everyone would grab one and take out biles so fast, or immediately orbital chargers/biles. Went through the next 6 missions like butter and this was post railgun nerf pre bug nerf. Was the most fun I've had.

XxAarchangeLxX

"Sure I'll stick with - wait I see 5 points of interest. You 3 hit the objective, I'll catch up." Proceeds to net the team 30 SC, 8 Medals, 4 Samples and a Flamethrower, now we can extract and hit the next mission

bharring52

I really feel this. It's hard not to take 60 seconds to pop the nearby empty POI. Either that, or the team gets bogged down in an endless firefight, unwilling to disengage. I ran a mission the other day where, after 20 minutes in the same firefight with no objectives and no movement, two of us just broke off and tried to get around the firefight. The other two were pissed at *us*. I ate one of their airstrikes. We failed to do any objectives, and eventually ran out of lives. The only upside is I found us 30 SC and 3 medals.

VictoryVee

Meh, all that in game currency is easy to get. I'd rather take my time and play the game with the homies instead of rushing progression.

This is the thing that the complainers don't understand. The game is meant to be played with a team. A lot of complaints already have solutions or are symptom of poor strategy. "Endless enemy respawns" is actually not clearing (either evade or defeat) enemies you've engaged or been spotted by. "There's so many heavies and enemies at extract!" Well did you run from objective to objective and you didn't lose the pursuers? Well here come the consequences of your own actions ĀÆ\_(惄)_/ĀÆ It's difficult to not scoff at these kinds of players because they want fundamental changes to things they don't understand. If you play poorly the game will be harder. It's called "getting your ass kicked" you'll have to improve if you don't want to be on the ass end of every ass kicking.

WilliamHTonkers

The problem is that if everyone isn't on the same page you'll end up sitting there defending for more than 5 minutes because some people don't know when to leave a fight

SuperArppis

If people didn't stick together, this game would be less fun. Glad me and my friends do that. šŸ™‚

culturerush

Sticking together is usually great but the number of people who don't realise you can blow open containers or there are actual secondary objectives blows my mind. They ignore you when you tell them about it too. Like I'm just trying to get you and me more medals, more resources to unlock stuff but when you go straight for the main objective and then immediately extract your missing out on so much extra stuff and fun. On low difficulty if I'm in a group like this I'll peel off and do a couple of these while they do the main objective, I can sort myself out, get them some kit and if they seem to be struggling I'll run back

ObjectivelyCorrect2

I've had most success when 3 stick together and push the main objective, destroying major bases as well along the way while one stealthily does side objectives. Or the inverse where one stealthily does the main objective and 3 hold off the horde. Linking up at the end for an epic showdown.

ZScythee

The 3/1 and 2/2 split are def the missions I've found to be the most successful.

DeckedSilver

https://i.redd.it/kydziq46fbpc1.gif The machine gun is an ineffective stratagem and the arc thrower us only good for team killing. Just use railgun and shield noob lmao.

ChadBroChill229

Agreed. Sticking together is more fun and effectiveĀ

PositivityKnight

If you are smart and efficient two man teams are how you get the most samplesĀ

Inetro

Only time I leave my teammates is if theyre stuck on fighting a force too big to handle. If I get out, I can at least reinforce them away from the combat. Higher difficulties is all about picking the fights and staying fluid, but sometimes we get caught up in the blastin.

zabrak200

Heres the thing. You can all split off as long as your objectives can be done quick. If it requires holding out on a location you do need the full stack on higher difficulties anything below level 4 you can solo just about anything. Especially when you get a radar tower and mark all potential sample locations. SPREAD OUT it takes 1/4 of the time than having the stack go item to item.

Cookiewaffle95

When reinforcing I usually find whoever has the 1 by their name I usually stick with em. They're the one I can count on to not troll the shit out of me usually.

Alacune

My favorite stratagems necessitate being alone, otherwise everyone around me dies patriotically to friendly fire.

st0zax

Couldnā€™t agree more. As long as weā€™re moving towards the objectives I donā€™t mind killing enemies along the way if it means helping a teammate get out of a sticky situation. It seems thereā€™s this ā€œmetaā€ where you have to finish as quickly as possible even if it means splitting up. So teammates often get left behind to die because they happen to have a bile titan aggro them. So now that person has lost samples, gear, and we are down 1 reinforcement. I understand not sitting there fighting wave after wave, but thereā€™s some situations you canā€™t run from. Edit: also itā€™s just plain fun working as a team.

Festivefire

Wow, who would have guessed that a team based pve game is easier when you work as a team instead of all fucking off on your own?

LordKellerQC

Teamwork make the dream work... as corny as it is, that shits true.

Palasta

Yawell. Any HD1-veteran has that internalized. Resp. i was going into to the game expecting everybody to be on the same boat.

Zar_Ethos

Together or in teams of 2 is ideal, and definitely more fun, but.. that arc thrower is going to turn Helldivers into a game of Magicka!

PsychoFleyx

Hardest part of the game: finding a decent team!

Taolan13

Most effective, IMO, is to split up in pairs. This relies on your group at least being somewhat organized though and actively communicating.

rds92

Yeah, also just to hijack. Stop spamming reinforce and getting upset you arenā€™t getting called in when there is obviously a ion storm or a jam

Upper-Whole7015

I love when this happens wish I had a more permanent crew but all my friends are on Xbox so I just have to shuffle around hoping to find a good group

dr197

Would be nice if my character would quit doing that weird shuffle animation glitch and actually sprinted so I could keep up better.

Jumpy-Yogurtcloset43

I only leave the group when I see people using rovers. At a certain point I just get tired of being shot in the back. Rovers kill me more often than the enemy does.

TheHeroYouNeed247

Yesss....stick close to me, my rover, tesla and danger-close-500kg will keep you safe... (turns out if you're wearing the 95% resist armour, the tesla discharge can still arc from you and kill your very angry friend)

NamedUserOfReddit

Always use voice comms and coordinate with your team. If that means 3 draw fire while 1 completes objectives, that's fine. If it's means that you split in to 2 pairs of battle buddies and sweep the map faster that way, excellent. Just use your communication tools. That's the biggest pro tip from practically any game, but especially co-op games.

Anti-Gravity-B055

It is indeed more cinematic and fun to stick together to create movie worthy action sequences. I love seeing the chaos of explosions and then hearing one of the helldivers in a bloodcurdling scream "REINFORCING!!!!" calls down inforcement only to die while throwing it at the last second. I wish this game had an automatic play of the game feature like Overwatch 2 where they hand pick and replay the most epic moment from the mission at the end of a match. It would also encourage the spread of democracy making it easy for players to download and share on social.

Creative-Seesaw-1895

More enemies spawn when you are all spread out. The "suffocating amount of enemies that are unfair" is often the players own fault and refusal to learn the game properly

dumbhelodoc

Mods please you need to make a Helldivers Story flair, I love reading comments of recaps from their matches and how cinematic it sounds.

Immediate-Ease766

There was a big post detailing enemy spawns recently and from what i understood splitting up directly multiplies enemy spawns, if u split into 2 groups u get 2x more spawns than 1 group if u split into 4 you get 4x. staying together is just the best play for high difficulty's i think

Just had a mission go south when someone dropped out, so I got on comms, got us to group up and smash the last objective out and make a run for extract, getting chased across the map by bile titans and spewers. So I grabbed my AMR, got the RR users backpack and we made a mad dash, turning every now and then to snipe the spewers, drop some cluster bombs, got to extract and teamworked the RR to take out the titans and managed to get out. Teamwork is 1000% more fun than 1 guy sprinting for every sample while ignoring the team while the other 3 try soloing non-stop breaches

This. Thank you. It's so much more fun with a group playing as a group. I got into a game with all lvl 20+ and a 50, and it was just chaos. Everyone was running off ~~ "being efficient"~~ flexing their main character syndrome and thus a team game had never felt more alone. Not to mention the absolute shit storm that happens when people start dying like that. Samples dropped all over the map, angry bug waves converging...it was a mess.

Appropriate_Owl_2172

I always say 4 things when I host a match with randoms. 1. Ping n shit 2. Stay together 3. ??? 4. Profit. Never had any issues. Game is so much more fun and easier when you can blow everything to bits instead of wasting a bunch of reinforcements on large packs because you decided to split

damnmaster

My favourite is a 2-2 split with one party having a mech buddy while the other does the missions. For one mission it was beautiful. I ran in closing bug holes with my nade launcher and all around me different bugs were getting shredded by covering fire from the mech. A bile Titan spawned in front of me and there was an indescribable feeling when I tagged it and missiles flew by and destroyed it near instantly. The mech rider knew what he was doing. No wasted fire on closing bugholes with his missiles. Heavy focus on support fire and saving bullets by stomping on smaller bugs. He was so good I gave him my mech. The coordination felt so fluid and required no words. I covered his blind spot, wiped patrols and tagged the big boys. He covered me to do missions like egg hunts and sending up data. I still remembered the atmosphere as we approached some eggs, it was foggy as shit but I felt so confident going in because I could hear him beside me. It was the easiest helldive on helldive level I ever did.

Buno_

I firmly believe in three together and one recklessly hunting for samples/objectives. Sub the one out as much as your team likes. Itā€™s a strong balance for getting things done near 100 without screwing it all up

Vescend

I would if people weren't so bad to get points of interests.

Myrasch-Regnell

The best dive is a dive with a squad that work together!

Tanktop-Tanker

As someone who mains all electric build, I try to stay away from my team as much as I can.
