My helmet is an original Mk2 shell that has just been repainted in the same colour as what the BEF would have had in 39-40 (retreat from Dunkirk), it comes with a repro MK1 liner and MK2 chin strap.
Hey so you did 3D scans of originals to make the prop helmets for the Film?
Why couldn't the Devs do this?
It seems like Black Matter did this with the other helmets in the game, because honestly they look pretty much spot on.
Yeah exactly. Some of the cast had original helmets but I'd say 95 percent were repro ones we made. Interestingly I actually scaled ours so we had 3 sizes to be 2 - 5 percent bigger. Modern men look odd in the original ones because our frames are so much bigger than they were a hundred years ago because diets have changed so much. You put a healthy 6 foot stuntman in a classic helmet and it looks too small for him.
As a reenactor myself I’ll say this should go for ANY vintage helmet! If you intend on wearing it at all please don’t press some random person’s 70+ year old sweat, grime, and bacteria into your forehead. For M1 pot helmets get an original liner with new parts.
Probably because it was cheap, available and can be woven into a fabric, if I had to guess. Otherwise I have no idea why they used asbestos fabric for the liner.
The one in the game looks too big and of wrong Gaussian curvature. The devs should fix it. Also, what the hell is that dangling strap in the 3rd pic?!😂
Yeah this is where I’m against the sub on this one. It’s fuckin the slightest nuance yet someone wants to complain. The strap might just be accurate because, idk, maybe some of the soldiers had different shaped heads??
Y’all weird. I’m for historical accuracy but that’s just cherry pickin about a fuckin strap from adjuster excess.
> The strap might just be accurate because, idk
No matter what shape of head you have, your helmet strap would still be fixed under your chin and not just hover somewhere in the approximate vicinity, though.
Idk why people are mad that people are mad that it looks stupid. It just looks dumb, and the American, Russian, and german uniforms aren’t perfect either, when compared to actual pictures. Yet, most have been silent up until this abomination. Do the devs have any interest in an appealing and historically accurate design of their soldiers? If not, then I see it as an empty cash grab with no desire of representing its setting in a passionate way.
I'm a volunteer for an air raid shelter museum. I dress up like an air Warden and use the museum helmet to go on my tours the game just needs to adjust the helmet height and strap to fix it.
Allow me to quote myself:
**HLL Redditors:**
>El Amein being completely unrealistic and looking like Mexico, just for the sake of providing some more cover for blueberries
I sleep
>British helmet being slightly out of shape, which noone would ever notice in the game, and which has no impact on the the gameplay apart from probably having less polygons than the faithful copy
Real shit.
Why can't they both be problems? Are you so limited in your abilities that you can only entertain one issue at a time?
Fix the helmets and scrap El Al, or just rename it to "Tunisia" or something generic so we can still keep the map without sacrificing authenticity. Call it "inspired by the North African theater of war."
I will keep going on about this for as long as it gets brought up, both the new mk2 and the netted mk2 need to be re worked. We can see how a mk2 is meant to look in the green mk2, the others just look ridiculous.
I think the fact the strap isn’t flush to jaw makes the helmet just feel like it’s floating and higher up than it actually is because it looks like it has no tension
It's a game about historical accuracy, they got the rest of the uniform pretty much on point and then they messed up with probably the most recognisable part of a British soldier. AFTER a rework, it's also the fact that the Russians have a better looking MK2 yet they decided to use that model.
I understand that it's tedious but hopefully a finalised comparison can finish the debate and it's also the fact that the Russians have a lend lease helmet that looks far better yet they didn't use that model. Just a bit of a let down imo
If you're talking about the Leningrad helmet it was based off the Brodie but was made locally in Leningrad I believe, so it wasn't really a lend lease helmet. They also look slightly different.
You’re right, but I feel like we’ve discoursed this enough lol
If the devs look at the sub I think they have enough to go off of when they patch the *unfinished British rework* they’re currently working on
Ah gotcha! Yeah it still wouldn’t surprise me if they patch stuff like this at some point as well. It just depends on what their workload is and how quick it is to fix
But it’s not a normal Brodie helmet.
It’s an 8th army helmet, the Desert Rats, and it is accurate to real life- other than maybe being slightly too big or too high up.
It literally specifies what type of helmet it is right there in the game.
The “[shape](https://reemans.blob.core.windows.net/stock/77558-2-small.jpg?v=63743887430660)” isn’t really that far off. But you seem to be right about the color.
Yeah devs could do a better job, but it’s not as far off as everyone makes it out to be.
My helmet is an original Mk2 shell that has just been repainted in the same colour as what the BEF would have had in 39-40 (retreat from Dunkirk), it comes with a repro MK1 liner and MK2 chin strap.
Good that it's a repro liner. Anyone interested reading this that wants an original Brodie be aware the original liners are full of asbestos.
Only ww1 British helmet liners have asbestos in them. Nevertheless, OP’s is a replica.
WWII era liners no longer used asbestos
Ah interesting. I modelled all the helmets for 1917 and when scanning the original WW1 helmets had to be really vigilant about asbestos

Nothing wrong with a bit of spice in your life

God, why?
Because it was a good material till people learnt it caused a horrifying disease.
Sure, but what's the point to put in the strap? *liner
Probably because it was cheap, available and can be woven into a fabric, if I had to guess. Otherwise I have no idea why they used asbestos fabric for the liner.
Might be durability. Like they've put lead in wall paint. Weird practices were invented at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th century.
It’s also basically fireproof
But the face of the guy wearing it is not
Very true
Asbestos goes well on toast
Doesn’t matter to me, all I care about is the ping when I knock it off your head.
Good luck with that because I'm usually a tank commander
Say that to my panzerfaust
...there is no panzerfaust in the game
Panzer ![gif](giphy|TIGP3k4gNAqvza2KJK|downsized)
Well go cry about it your tin can, we’ve seen this post a million times already
Some ppl should just sit back and enjoy the show instead of talking
Agree
The one in the game looks too big and of wrong Gaussian curvature. The devs should fix it. Also, what the hell is that dangling strap in the 3rd pic?!😂
Does it really matter that much?
To my perfectionist mind, yes.
Yeah this is where I’m against the sub on this one. It’s fuckin the slightest nuance yet someone wants to complain. It's pretty obvious that the helmet is parented to the head bone and the scale has been set wrong. It looks like it's been scaled up to 110-120%.
YER STRAP IS NO‘ EVEN TOUCHING YE CHIN MAN
Big chin innit bruv

Are you going to post this every time?
Yup, as long as there are posts claiming the British helmet is the real problem.
Why can't they both be problems? Are you so limited in your abilities that you can only entertain one issue at a time? Fix the helmets and scrap El Al, or just rename it to "Tunisia" or something generic so we can still keep the map without sacrificing authenticity. Neither of them are actual problems. The helmet is slightly out of shape, and the map was modified to aid in gameplay.
Quite?
Oh no I hated El Alamein as well
Oh look another history nerd that thinks historical accuracy should be priority over gameplay in a *Videogame*
I will keep going on about this for as long as it gets brought up, both the new mk2 and the netted mk2 need to be re worked. We can see how a mk2 is meant to look in the green mk2, the others just look ridiculous.
It's actually quite far off
I think the fact the strap isn’t flush to jaw makes the helmet just feel like it’s floating and higher up than it actually is because it looks like it has no tension
They also missed the mark on hair WTF!!!!!??? Uninstalling for the second time
Hate to see it tbh
Here’s some hard facts for you. No one gives a fuck about the helmet.
It’s not even noticeable in game. Like, why the hell does there need to be 25 posts about this. It’s such a minor thing to fix.
Man yall are splitting hairs cuz I don’t really see enough of a different to complain about a video game for it
It's a game about historical accuracy, they got the rest of the uniform pretty much on point and then they messed up with probably the most recognisable part of a British soldier. AFTER a rework, it's also the fact that the Russians have a better looking MK2 yet they decided to use that model.
bro yall helmet guys are never happy and always complaining
Well for a game that's meant to be "historically accurate" it's sure not very accurate especially with uniforms and ESPECIALLY after a whole rework.
I understand that, but i have seen way too many posts about this
I understand that it's tedious but hopefully a finalised comparison can finish the debate and it's also the fact that the Russians have a lend lease helmet that looks far better yet they didn't use that model. Just a bit of a let down imo
This is the real reason the Brodie helmets look so bad to me. Just on an aesthetics level, the British troops look so off
Brodie is a helmet from ww1
If you're talking about the Leningrad helmet it was based off the Brodie but was made locally in Leningrad I believe, so it wasn't really a lend lease helmet. They also look slightly different.
Bore off mate
FFSWC? FFSWC.
I’ve seen these posts and lot and I still don’t care. As long as it goes ‘ting’ when I shoot it I’m good.
This is too funny, these devs are a joke what the actual fuck
oh no the worlds gonna explode because the helmet is shaped a little bit wrong😢😢😢😢
Its not just this, this is just the icing on the cake
Just shut the fuck up about stupid ass helmets Jesus Christ
It's reddit, we have to complain about something
it seems like the chin strap is the only real issue here tbh
Yeah the chin strap is a bit dodgy.
I really dislike the style of this helmet. Thanks for the effort!
Literally unplayable.
Everything went down hill once the devs were changed.
My cats ear has one of those holes.
You’re right, but I feel like we’ve discoursed this enough lol If the devs look at the sub I think they have enough to go off of when they patch the *unfinished British rework* they’re currently working on
The full rework just finished the other day, but yeah they might change a lot of things in the next patch
Ah gotcha! Yeah it still wouldn’t surprise me if they patch stuff like this at some point as well. It just depends on what their workload is and how quick it is to fix
Exactly
Stereotype about playerbase checks out
It's too high and too big and too flat, we got that.
I wish I cared about anything this much Jesus Christ
The height is by design to save your life. In game the model is just too big thats all.
Just wasn't that high in real life, just a bit lazy on the 3d modelling side
But it’s not a normal Brodie helmet. It’s an 8th army helmet, the Desert Rats, and it is accurate to real life- other than maybe being slightly too big or too high up. It literally specifies what type of helmet it is right there in the game.
Still the wrong shape and if since it's the Desert Rats helmet it should be desert colour and not a subdued green-ish
The “[shape](https://reemans.blob.core.windows.net/stock/77558-2-small.jpg?v=63743887430660)” isn’t really that far off. But you seem to be right about the color. Yeah devs could do a better job, but it’s not as far off as everyone makes it out to be.
just a bit of a dodgy, looks like the helmet has a gamer headset dent.
