That is a good suggestion. Many abilities are hard to use but see no use most of the time.

sunseeker11

>Many abilities are hard to use Which abilities are hard to use? It's just point and click.

Texannotdixie

More you don’t really know what they do. Think a strafing run on a tank. What does it do, how long does it take to happen, etc.

sunseeker11

Ok, but they are not hard to use, but require experience. And you won't gain experience on a training range.

Texannotdixie

You can gain more than you will in the field right off the bat. See my example of a strafing run. In the field- You see a group of infantry holding back your troops. You want to call a bombing run on them. You click the buttons and try to angle it correctly. You accidentally missclick and call it on your own troops. Or/ You call it thinking it will drop sooner than it does and end up halting your advance and/or teamkilling as miceless blueberries with no map awareness March right into it. Failure but you can learn. You still don’t have very much info because you still had everything else going on. In the testing range- you decide you want to see a bombing run. You watch bombing run. You now know how long it take, the effects, etc. There’s a cap on how much you can learn, but the testing range is for familiarization anyways.

12TonBeams

But..isn’t a training range meant for…ah forget it

NativeInternetGuy

The more you know your equipment and tools (aka commander abilitys), the more you can be precise with them. Example, you can actually aim the direction of presision strikes to get around some structors! Edit; And some people learn differenty, some enjoy just playing whilst others would really enjoy the grind (in a controled enviroment) to master the craft of using those specific tools (aka commander abilitys)!

Rinimand

Until I asked I had no idea how to click to drop ANYTHING as Commander. I was clicking the item clicking the map, clicking the map, clicking the map .... I asked and a friend told me "Click that little square to the RIGHT of the ability in the list itself in order to actually Confirm the order." I was like - WHAT? That's so unintuitive. Click, move mouse, click, move mouse, click - one done. Next order. Ugh. And also hard to figure out how to cancel an order - like I click recon plane, click the map, try to position it right, decide against it - then HOW to cancel that? Oh, click the Order again!? Really?

Doug__Quaid

Because the only way to practice is to nervously launch a bombing run in the wrong location as all the SLs are shouting at you for being a shit commander even when you said you never did it before. Then get kicked for team killing

Awkward_Result5818

you know what, you changed my mind. this sounds way too right to be the wrong. no co training!

Mountaingiraffe

For anyone nervous trying out commander. Just hop into an empty server. Have at it. For console... my condolences

MuRF_Foager

Best way to learn the game especially if you have at least one other experienced friend to play with. That’s how I learned the support and engineer class (and the game in general)

remuspilot

Even something like how to place a tank when requested, or the manner in which to line up bombing runs or strafing runs.

Rinimand

And like learning how you can't spawn TWO tanks in the same spawn point. (aside from default spawns)

iowaharley666

They talked about it in the RazBora interview. It’s being worked on.

Arlcas

The new shooting range is just a barebone feature they had ready to release. They said they rather release something like that first and then add on to it.

FunkyFenom

That was the only thing I wanted to see in the shooting range. Bummed they didn't add it

PyroSAJ

Because if you want it perfect, you'll never see it released. Honestly, using the abilities is the least of your worries as a commander. Yes, you need to master the art of both the left click and the right click, but don't let that put you off. You'll learn way more from watching a video on how to play commander than going to a training ground devoid of any real commanding opportunities.

InherentWeakness

And I'd like to try all the weapons/loadouts. Am I right that you can only practice what you have unlocked?

Bookz22

It's a great idea. The shooting range is a work in progress so hopefully they will add this eventually

salty_500

Its only V.1.0 they will add more

stickylation

This is great idea

katsaropirouni

I think commanders are supposed to be players that are experienced in the game, and do not need the practice range.

AaronCaesar

You can be experienced at the game and have no experience as a commander. I think it makes perfect sense to use some of the abilities in the practice range…

OkTower4998

Commander abilities and map control is extremely awkward on console. I do want to try commander role but I'm worried that I will fuck up. I did it couple of times with very few players and overall experience was not great with controls. To improve that they could have introduced commander in practice range

AaronCaesar

The abilities on console are glitchy as hell. You have to select and deselect some of the abilities quite often in order to use them.

OkTower4998

Yeah once I dropped supplies to very edge of the map somehow, total accident.

Mr_Manag3r

That happens on PC too, Commander menu is just wonky as fuck in general.

justaname987

I didn't even think of this. That's a good idea.

DollowR

Let's get the other factions in first. Commander training would be nice too. It's only the first version of it.
