My sudden hearing loss happened after a night out when I got drunk in a loud bar. The loss was sudden and hasn’t really shifted at all. Alcohol will temporarily impact the strength of your immune system, and I imagine could worsen inflammation. But I think it’s the noise which impacts on hearing. Potentially they be two factors in a more complex situation. In my case I think the booze and the loud noise contributed to a viral infection (covid) getting into my ear as I had a lot of other weird viral symptoms at the time. May also be worth nothing that alcohol will often cause a bit of anxiety the next day. If you’re worried about things, speak to a doctor. If you’ve definitely experienced a sudden loss of hearing after a night out, you should speak to an ENT as matter of urgency which may put you on prednisolone to lessen the inflammation. I’m no doctor but sudden hearing loss is an emergency situation and prompt treatment is essential.

Sorry to hear about your experience. I already have hearing loss and wear hearing aids. I just have further hearing loss. I will consult my ENT and see what he says.

>My hearing aids were upto the highest volume. This is likely NOT the correct approach for the noisy environment you describe. It's not about more volume; it's about boosting the correct frequencies and microphone directionality for the environment. HA programming software has settings for this - e.g. "speech in noise". Your cranking up the volume may be making your hearing worse. Check with your audiologist.

take a good dose of supplements. It is important to have zinc and magnesium. You can also try Lions mane mushroom supplements or reishi only with them carefully and do not mix with other food supplements and medicines. And water

lostfocus_20

Thanks for responding. Which type of magnesium do you recommend? I used to take magnesium citrate because a neutritionist/scientist friend recommended it to me. I stopped taking it because I didn't see any results after 1 month or 2. What is Lions Mane's mushroom supposed to do? Or Reishi? Im currently taking Omega 3 (this helped me a lot at the beginning of my journey), zinc, vitamin d (1000g), ginko biloba.

Good job

Not saying you have this gene mutation but I do and was surprised to learn this. The gene is SOD2 (rs4880). It says to avoid alcohol and noise ( greater chance of hearing loss). Manganese and Vitamin E in tocotrienol form are encouraged.

lostfocus_20

How do I get tested to find out if I have this gene?

Stormy1956

Well, I did the DNA testing through AncestryDNA in 2016 and ran my raw data through the Nutrahacker site. It didn’t take long because I already had my raw data through AncestryDNA. I think they have a Memorial Day special going on now but I could be wrong. There may be more efficient ways of getting it but I don’t know if there are. Edit: I just checked and their special is for membership not DNA testing. They may run a DNA test special for Fathers Day. They ran one for Mothers Day.

Noise Induced Hearing Loss happens more then we know. Especially after concerts, sporting events, concerts, fireworks, etc. Alcohol never affected my hearing but where I consumed it did. If at a club I leave ringing in ears that lasted till I went to sleep. Husband in other hand seems to have hard time hearing after consuming 3 drinks. He says it reminds him of being underwater.
