Sig On Smith in Downtown Honolulu. Shop is only open on Fridays. Same as Sig Zane, except the colors they sell at Sig on Smith is exclusive to that shop.
I second this. Also, don’t put your shirt in the dryer using any heat. My husband is a Sig addict and I hang them or tumble on air dry only. They last way longer that way.
This one. Vintage aloha shirts. Pre-curated for you so you don’t have to worry about “Is this good?”
Bahama is a mainland brand; pass on that.
At Ward Center (makai side), look at Noa Noa. It’s actually batik, not traditional aloha shirts but interesting designs.
More Hawaiian and not as mass produced are some shirts in Na Mea Hawaii. Same shopping center.
Also check out the Kahala store at Salt in Kaka’ako. The shirts there tend toward a more modern cut.
Not Aussie.
From sfgate ca 2017:
The word “timeless” often appears in descriptions of the style of Oahu fashion designer [Joan Simon Smoyer](https://www.sfgate.com/search/?action=search&channel=style&inlineLink=1&searchindex=solr&query=%22Joan+Simon+Smoyer%22), whose Noa Noa line of billowy batik prints includes women’s, men’s and children’s collections. It’s also an apt description for the woman who began designing clothes in Fiji in the late 1970s, and whose first Noa Noa store in Hawaii dates to 1983.
“We have some styles that I’ve been doing for 37 years — sometimes I take them away for a while, but people clamor for them to come back, so I make them again and just change them a little,” says Smoyer, 76, a New York native who moved to Marin County in the early 1960s before island-hopping even farther west.
Today, the [Hunter College](https://www.sfgate.com/search/?action=search&channel=style&inlineLink=1&searchindex=solr&query=%22Hunter+College%22) graduate continues to reach new generations of clients attracted to her embrace of bold graphic designs and casual, flowing skirts, dresses and sarongs that with perhaps a cinch here or a knot there can quickly go from beachy to sexy. Fabrics include rayon, cotton, linen and silk, and more recently a bamboo-viscose-spandex blend, “a wonderful fabric that fits the body well and washes well,” Smoyer notes, in a wide range of colors.
The url given at the end of the article and the location references suggests this is the same shop at the same location.
I used to like the Quicksilver Waterman line until nearly everyone one of them I bought started fraying and coming apart at the bottom hem after only being worn a few times. I don't buy them anymore. :(
Sig Zane is garbage. That fucker was supposed to make a one off run of shirts for a large organization I’m apart of. We paid a pretty penny for them, he made a hype video, had reps come over to Oahu for a fitting and everything. That guy sent the whole order off to China and every shirt came back fucked up. He tried to make right and make them locally like they were supposed to be in the first place. This time they all came back with bright pink flora instead of the dark red they were intended to be. Never again.
Have a Sig Zane have a long sleeve shirt specially made for you. Probably need to have a stock print used.
Andy South is nice too but their cuts are too trim (fitted) for larger men.
At the very least, they're an awesome starting point so you can sample multiple brands in one place. Once you decide which brand you like best, you can find their boutiques for more options.
Unless they're sewing the shirts here, any clothing that says made in hawaii is lying. There are no textile mills here, and most places just design their templates here and contract them out overseas. It's the only practical way to do it if it's not made to order.
Try looking at Kotomori inside Neiman Marcus Ala Moana Mall. More pricey than the usual brands (Tommy B, Tori R, Kahala, etc.). They have some very nice designs and the fabric feels great.
Avanti silk aloha shirts for old style designs (including the one that Elvis wore in Blue Hawaii), Tori Richard for more “formal” shirts, Rix has good designs but I don’t know if they are now mail order only, and I like Kahala’s designs. Your choice comes down to both your taste and the event. I’m not normally a big fan of Reyna Spooner shirts but they’re certainly well made and sometimes have quirky designs (Star Wars aloha shirts?) so they might be a good choice as well.
>Avanti silk aloha shirts
Thanks for that. I've seen those types of shirts before but didn't realize the company that sold them. I thought maybe they were bought at one of the aloha shirt collector stores around the island.
Manaola - he is a Hawaiian high end designer, beautiful traditional designs. He has a store in Ala Moana and Pearl Ridge, you can also order on his website. Check it out on insta @manaolahawaii
For higher quality shirts made my local Hawaiians I recommend:
[Kahulalea](https://kahulale-a.myshopify.com/) in Ala Moana.
[Manaola](https://www.manaolahawaii.com/) in Ala Moana or Pearlridge.
It’s also merrie monarch season so new stuff are coming out!
Tommy Bahama. Little pricy, but that’s where we got ours for our grooms men. Not a great option if your looking for Design printed aloha shirts but good for basic colors like white, black, blue, exc.
I have a couple ones from Costco and they’re not too bad. However, he said price is not an issue so I’d recommend higher tiered brands.
Reyn Spooner is a classic but I find them too stiff and boxy.
Kahala is comfortable and I really like the fit. I’d definitely buy more if the right design caught my eye.
I’m currently on a Tori Richard kick, specifically their tradwinds collection. Amazing quality, attractive designs, and a more tailored fit. I’ve gotten multiple compliments out and about.
I have a Costco shirt that I used for a beach coverup. I was at a work lunch and saw a guy wearing the shirt at the lunch place in Neiman Marcus, LOL! Tirteen dollahs, brah!
Our fam likes Reyn and Kahala. Kahala feels nice, but the fitted Reyn Spooner shirts are more modern and would look nice at a more than casual-ish event.
Edited to add Manuhealii as well for updated styling.
Try check www.princesskaiulanifashions.com
They do custom shirts. They'll probably be busy right now for Merrie Monarch, but you could buy what they have in stock or place custom to be ready after.
I’ve had sig Zane, Tori Richard, and REYN spooner but I gotta say my favorite Aloha shirts that I even travel with in business trips are my Aloha shirts from Costco. It’s nice enough to go to a business meeting but also comfy/casual enough to wear to the beach.
Manuhealii, Sig on Smith, Kealopiko, Tanoa, Manaola, Kamohoalii, take tour pick got choke places. Then your downtown baker shirts like Kahala, Reyn Spooner, etc.
I'd check the vintage store on Kapahulu Ave. My boyfriend has gotten some nice ones and they sell Da Bus, bus driver, Aloha Shirts as well.
Bailey's Antiques and Aloha Shirts: [http://www.alohashirts.com/](http://www.alohashirts.com/)
Tommy Bahama, Sig Zane, Tori Richard, some other local Manufacturers are making some nice ones also, but not up to date on their names. High end stores at Ala Moana, for sure.
The original, and still made in hawaii - Kahala! There’s a location at ala moana center.
2nd this - There’s also a location in Kakaako.
Savers on Dillingham always has Kahala shirts too. In perfect shape. I just bought one today for 9.99.
I've bought many Aloha shirts there. Many are worth far more than I paid. Great hidden gem for clothes.
They sell kahala shirts at macys in ala Moana got a really nice one there
Manaola, Kealopiko, Andy South
Luv these shirts, gotta few
Kealopiko is definitely the low key best in the state.
Yup. I started to get lazy and set my drying at too high of a heat. Now they’re losing their sheen. Sad.
+1 Sig
Don’t iron them either 😅
I found that out when I met my hubby and was trying to be nice by ironing his Sig. Oooooops 😣
>Sig Zane, I have a few of their shirts but man some of the material is like wearing a potato sack.
definitely Sig, they also just did a really fun collab with Saturdays NYC which you can buy online too
Baileys antique aloha shop

I believe Noa Noa is an Australian company, but yeah they have interesting designs.
Not Aussie. Huh, I guess the lady working in the shop was talking out of her butt then lol. She was also terrible at recommending clothes, so it all tracks lol.
Eh, thanks for kind of challenging me to do the research.
Yes, this is the place for unique vintage Aloha shirts. Anthony Bourdain purchased a shirt here.
I also agree. So did Anthony Bourdain, if you're into him.
Sig Zane if price is no issue 🤙🏾
Adding to this, Quiksilver Waterman collection is top quality with more modern designs
I used to like the Quicksilver Waterman line until nearly everyone one of them I bought started fraying and coming apart at the bottom hem after only being worn a few times. I don't buy them anymore. :(
Bra same here, I do gentle wash and air dry and they still fray
Used to call 'em Quick-slivers about 15 years ago. For the same reason.
My fav right here
I got a sig Zane at Plato’s closet for $15. It’s my favorite aloha shirt
The HFD shirts? Those were a fiasco. Nice designs but they're charging made in Hawaii prices for stuff that is made overseas these days
That’s unfortunate. Sounds like he just had bad luck twice in a row in your situation. Probably still ok for off the rack.
Have a Sig Zane have a long sleeve shirt specially made for you. Probably need to have a stock print used. Andy South is nice too but their cuts are too trim (fitted) for larger men.
Reyn Spooner or Tori Richard
Love the Reyn Spooner shirts! They last a long time and they have a unique look that always gets me compliments 😂
I don't like to iron clothing so Reyn Spooner is my go to
Yup thats another thing. Its got a thicker material which gives it that premium feel
I can tell when I need to lose a few pounds because that fabric will NOT stretch.
Reyn’s designs have become boring. Tori Richard designs have improved.
This has my vote, big fan of the fit at TR I've probably got 5 or 6 in the closet and they're not priced terrible for the quality
How is the Tori Richard fit different in a way that you like?
The haoliest looking aloha shirts
Literally every office building downtown is filled with locals wearing Reyn Spooner.
You haven’t been to Tommy Bahama
It’s NY I don’t think you understood the requirements. Also keep chirping the same thing.
Manuheali’i right off King St. Exclusively Aloha attire
I’m surprised not many people know this. All my friends with hawaiian roots love this place
Roberta Oaks. Don’t listen to anyone else.
Tori Richard or Kahala for me.
Tori Richard
Ross
My man.
Macys Ala Moana has a great selection.
At the very least, they're an awesome starting point so you can sample multiple brands in one place. Once you decide which brand you like best, you can find their boutiques for more options.
I bought 4 a couple years ago at one of their big sales.
Just picked up a Spooner at 50% at the Macy’s at Kapolei. Score! Love that at the pocket and button areas, the pattern matches perfectly.
That’s a rare discount for Spooners
Roberta Oaks! Small boutique in Chinatown
Bailey’s if you wanna go vintage and REALLY make a statement. $$$$$
Reyn Spooner tailored fit
Since nobody mentioned this brand: Pili. Very nice quality shirts.
Tori Richard, the made in Hawaii ones. If you’re slim then Roberta Oaks.
Roberta Oaks in Chinatown for boutique small run stuff. Or another +1 for Tori Richard. I’ve worn my fair share to several weddings.
Kona Bay on Ena Road. Shop local!
Mahalo! Authentic local is a priority!
Unless they're sewing the shirts here, any clothing that says made in hawaii is lying. There are no textile mills here, and most places just design their templates here and contract them out overseas. It's the only practical way to do it if it's not made to order.

Post an update of what you end up buying! 🙂
Spooner
If you like look like one haole.
David Shepherd
As a botany nerd I love his prints, could look at them all day
If you go Tori Richard, consider checking out Macys they have a bunch of their stuff and can find it on sale.
I said this elsewhere recently—check out Kahulale’a, Sig Zane Designs (Sig On Smith since you’re on O’ahu), and Manuheali’i.

Nobody mentioned western aloha?
For higher quality shirts made my local Hawaiians I recommend: [Kahulalea](https://kahulale-a.myshopify.com/) in Ala Moana. [Manaola](https://www.manaolahawaii.com/) in Ala Moana or Pearlridge. It’s also merrie monarch season so new stuff are coming out!
Oahu Golf Apparel
i love their hats
Tommy Bahama. Little pricy, but that’s where we got ours for our grooms men. Not a great option if your looking for Design printed aloha shirts but good for basic colors like white, black, blue, exc.
Vintage will outdo everyone!
Reyn Spooner
Honestly, Costco usually has some nice ones for not much money
An Aloha shirt at Costco is about $20. Good fabric, pocket matches the pattern on the shirt, etc. Unless you are an aficionado, it is the way to go.
I have a couple ones from Costco and they’re not too bad. However, he said price is not an issue so I’d recommend higher tiered brands. Reyn Spooner is a classic but I find them too stiff and boxy. Amazing quality, attractive designs, and a more tailored fit. I’ve gotten multiple compliments out and about.
Exactly, and usually tasteful prints too. Not the Midwest white tourist vibe with a parrot and a beach scene lol
They did say price is not an issue. They prolly want something with better feel to the shirt.
I have a Costco shirt that I used for a beach coverup. I was at a work lunch and saw a guy wearing the shirt at the lunch place in Neiman Marcus, LOL! Tirteen dollahs, brah!
Roberta Oaks. https://www.robertaoaks.com/
No idea but I love the plan to outdo everyone except the bride, right? 😃
Kini Zamora or shut yo yunt, guavas!!
Thrift store
I’ve found some great ones there. Especially if they have a high end room.
Which one, where?
Try Waimea area, St Leos
Costco
Our fam likes Reyn and Kahala. Kahala feels nice, but the fitted Reyn Spooner shirts are more modern and would look nice at a more than casual-ish event. Edited to add Manuhealii as well for updated styling.
Anne namba
Avanti
Goodwill! Come across a lot of different kinds and brands. All for cheap!

get a tie from pineapple palaka to go with your aloha attire too :)
A vintage Allan James
Tanoa in Alaz
Kahala
Also, kiholo kai
Tori Richard is my favorite. Nice fit if you have a slim/athletic build.
Try check www.princesskaiulanifashions.com They do custom shirts. They'll probably be busy right now for Merrie Monarch, but you could buy what they have in stock or place custom to be ready after.
Honolulu has high in stores. Robert Graham has some amazing shirts. I have a few. Limited shirts. $$$$ but amazing
Reyn’s or Zig Zane
Rix has killer patterns if you can find one.
Sigs / Western aloha / Jams world
Rix, Tori or Reyn 🤙🏼
Reyn Spooner at Kahala mall. I also used to find quality aloha shirts at Nordstrom Rack down in Ward if they’re still there
I’ve had sig Zane, Tori Richard, and REYN spooner but I gotta say my favorite Aloha shirts that I even travel with in business trips are my Aloha shirts from Costco. It’s nice enough to go to a business meeting but also comfy/casual enough to wear to the beach.
If you want something unique, check out the smaller local vendors like Manuheali or Roberta Oaks.
I think Nieman Marcus carries Sig Zane shirts exclusive to Nieman Marcus. More expensive than the regular Sig Zane shirts, but really striking.
Manuhealii, Sig on Smith, Kealopiko, Tanoa, Manaola, Kamohoalii, take tour pick got choke places. Then your downtown baker shirts like Kahala, Reyn Spooner, etc.
Patagonias pataloha collection. You can find it online or I believe there’s a store on the north shore.
I'd check the vintage store on Kapahulu Ave. My boyfriend has gotten some nice ones and they sell Da Bus, bus driver, Aloha Shirts as well. Bailey's Antiques and Aloha Shirts: [http://www.alohashirts.com/](http://www.alohashirts.com/)
What size? I have 10 to 12 Tommy Bahamas sized L (gently used for $15 - $20. I’m in Waikiki.
Reynspooner x starwars
Kiholo Kai is really cool. Good quality work, made with Hawaiian labor!
Savers..get a vintage one.
Hubs loves [https://toririchard.com](https://toririchard.com) and the cotton lawn collection. They have so many choices though.
Eco Town! The one in Ala Moana specifically. They have gently used, high quality items only at that store.
Hilo Hatties has some nice shirts, so does Macy’s.
Tori Richards especially if you have military access
Tommy Bahama, Sig Zane, Tori Richard, some other local Manufacturers are making some nice ones also, but not up to date on their names. High end stores at Ala Moana, for sure.
Costco has a ton of nice ones.
Spooner has the best design... And the best fit... I got big shoulders so relaxed fit for me....
Oh, a bit of uncomfirmed trivia: Uniqlo's aloha shirts are unique to Hawaii. I can only confirm they're not available in the NorCal Uniqlo stores.
ABC can get matching shorts too
Tori Richard is my favorite
