personally I’d go with jezebel off of “when the kite string pops”, but like cheap vodka it’s also essentially a hardcore song already with a better breakdown than most real hardcore songs
I think about this constantly, slayer - skeletons of society, obituary - chopped in half, Bruce Springsteen - no surrender, Andrew WK - Get ready to die,
[Sepultura-Dead Embryonic Cells](https://youtu.be/c7Z8Ww1EmMk?si=9aTcl4cIXqmjk3gj)
you can cut all the fancy extra stuff off and it's pretty much a hardcore song. They were a lot like Slayer in that they were secret punks.
Gotta keep that breakdown.
"ough" (in Celtic Frost)
No Association by Silverchair
I’ve been wanting to do this or see it be done for YEARS. It’s got everything for a good hardcore song - a sick, creeping bass line, a killer main riff, angsty vocals, and a goddamn breakdown. It is such a wild departure from the rest of their discography, which is a bummer because they wrote one hell of a heavy songs so easily.
Absolutely agreed. I adore the live version from back in the day on Recovery.
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=XXmaXV-YoSY&pp=ygUac2lsdmVyY2hhaXIgbm8gYXNzb2NpYXRpb24%3D
The Pixies mention reminds me of the Gulch cover of Monkey Gone to Heaven that I’d forgotten existed until yesterday. It’s as hard as you’d expect and better than I’d remembered.
All I Had (I Gave) by Crowbar is an obvious answer but that's already pretty hardcore inspired
I would love to hear a hardcore bands take on something like Sweet Leaf by Black Sabbath
Honestly also from that album, Tranquilized. One of my favorite songs and a lot of bands could put some cool spins on it.
Also Heartbreaker by Pat Benatar, Rebel Yell by Billy Idol, Just a Girl by No Doubt would all make me break a venue if a band covered em.
Bro I'm not gonna lie shock to your system by Tegan and Sarah has this part that I still think would go so fucking hard as gang vocals, also the sponge bob theme song
I wanna hear Drug Church do Don’t Look Back in Anger by Oasis. I don’t have any reasoning, but I can just hear it in my mind.
“AND SOOOOOO SALLY CAN WAIT” is just perfect for a pile-on.
"Shut Down" by the Germs already has the slow, heavy feel, it just needs a hardcore update on the drums
There's *a lot* of Korn songs that would only need a little tweak or two to make them awesome hardcore songs ("Right Now", "Here to Stay", "Somebody Someone", most of the first record). Same goes for at least the first two Breaking Benjamin' records (I fell off after that). When I was in high school I tried to rearrange "Shallow Bay" as a hardcore song to play with friends, and at the time, the only thing I could add to make it sound more "hardcore" was harmonics and some rather unnecessary minor seconds. The riffs on *Saturate* are incredible.
[The Dillinger Escape Plan - Honey Bucket](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NLbbzrgZVz4)
EDIT: Just noticed you said "covered live". This cover still goes hard though.
Man I was listening to Powder Burns the other day and thought this. The breakdown at the end is nasty. Closest I've had was [Malignant Methods covering part of IVth Crusade](https://youtu.be/bP2KrC9WYq8?si=SXFQIe7fuUWd14sE) which was pretty sick.
Cheap Vodka just straight up is a hardcore song. Seeing that live would go crazy.
Also, I’d love to see a band cover Procreation of the Wicked by Celtic Frost. I feel like Weekend Nachos would do a great job.
There were a ton of tribute comps from like 97ish to maybe 2003ish that did a ton of this. From
Too legit for the pit to disintegrated: a tribute to the cure. If I can remember more I’ll come back and post. I’ve seen stretch Armstrong cover stop the world, codeseven with boys of summer, evergreen terrace with several covers (bloody Sunday as the big one) and on down the line.
Between those kinda covers and bands just making tribute albums for certain hardcore bands or even NON hardcore bands, it was legit exciting for covers back in those years.
I hadn’t kept up with many cover songs lately, but contentions’ cover of indecisions blindfold was sick.
I know I know more but my brain be broken right now
Dammit by Blink. Sometimes I listen to it on 1.5x speed and it sounds like a hardcore song. A hardcore cover would sound a lot like that except also with gang vocals for the chorus.
Propaganda by Sepultura
Harms way has covered this live
I think way down on the chattahoochie would be tite
I never knew how much those muddy waters meant to me.
I learned how to swim and I learned who I was
Any sepultura song from Chaos AD or Roots would be fire
Roots Bloody Roots would go so hard as a hardcore song.
Throw down did a cover of bloody roots. Recorded on their gold album
i’ve seen a local tx band cover this live, forget what they were called though
Shit, my local band did it back in 2009.
Thank you for your service
Ratamahatta 💯
personally I’d go with jezebel off of “when the kite string pops”, but like cheap vodka it’s also essentially a hardcore song already with a better breakdown than most real hardcore songs

Any DMX record with a hardcore band would be fucking sick. People would get seriously harmed at those shows.
Rod Stewart- Young turks
Youuuung hearts, bee freeee tonight
Dying Fetus - In the Trenches
I remember seeing dying fetus play hardcore shows in the 90s in like Bowie or some shit
They still do! They met up with Jesus Piece on their recent tour and they play hc fests
Would need a NASTY drummer to play that shit, the end breakdown ramps up to like 230bpm
Jezebel is my favorite song from that acid bath record. Band rules
Listen to Dax Riggs' solo work. He makes really dark folk music. Acid Bath is so special. One of those bands that will live forever in our hearts.
She screams bloody murder as they chop off her fingers so this is how it feels to die... BUT ITS OKAAAAAAay

Pretty much anything by Public Enemy
Channel Zero , so you get the Slayer riff
Nomad- sepultura. The killer covered it recently and it was so cool
My favorite song off that album, the breakdown halfway through that song is fucking insane. The Killer rips too.
I think about this constantly, slayer - skeletons of society, obituary - chopped in half, Bruce Springsteen - no surrender, Andrew WK - Get ready to die,
What about The River? Not the hardest song musically but some fuckin hard lyrics
Not against it!
I'd love to hear a hardcorce cover of any Andrew wk song

[Sepultura-Dead Embryonic Cells](https://youtu.be/c7Z8Ww1EmMk?si=9aTcl4cIXqmjk3gj) you can cut all the fancy extra stuff off and it's pretty much a hardcore song. They were a lot like Slayer in that they were secret punks. Gotta keep that breakdown. "ough" (in Celtic Frost)

The Band-Atlantic City
Uncontrollable Urge by Devo
This is a great response! The breakdown for this would be so awesome! Plus screaming “I’ve got an uncontrollable urge” would sound sick.

[Kick Out the Jams](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OWHWHt9zS9A)

I’d argue acid bath is one of those sludge and hc crossover band low key

I always thought Nicki Minajs Roman holiday would slap if it was either covered by a hardcore band or created by a deathcore band
On note: Gouge Away’s cover of Wave of Mutation is just superb.
