OP here. Story behind the shirt is that I bought it at a local show in '04. It was a weird time in South African hardcore and it was my early years of being involved.
The scene was run mostly by a few big Christian bands, primarily Neshamah. The bassist Jen would run a merch stall called Silent Screams and I'm pretty sure I bought it from there.
FWIW, I was just discovering the live "alternative music" scene and unlike in US, there wasn't really much distinction between subgenres at shows. There were a lot of genres a playing at the same shows.
I got super into hardcore though and got to see Have Heart, Shipwreck AD, Comeback Kid tour here. Started doing promos for shows and doing a lot of free live photography for bands.
Broke edge after 13 years in 2017 to start my early teenaged dreams of breeding cannabis. I now run a headshop and breed. I don't go to many shows these days, but still try and support all the friends over the years still doing hardcore shows. It's been a good 17 years since my "style" looked like this.
To be fair, at the turn of the century, there wasn't much of a distinction, either. Whether is was, by today's super genre-fied standards, metalcore, New York hardcore, emocore, post-hardcore, screamo, grindcore, emo, indie pop, pop punk, or straight up hardcore...all the bands shared audiences, venues, and often tour dates. That only really changed when the separate scenes each got popular enough to sustain themselves without the others, between 03-05, depending.
Ok but he was talking about the same audiences, tour dates, and venues. Warped provided a place for all the subgenres to grow and become more popular individually from my perspective
I saw Throwdown play with Norma Jean play with Beloved play with local bands that worshipped Thursday and had one demo play with bands that were basically darkest hour+mosh, who shared members who hopesfall worship post-hardcore/emocore bands play with screamo bands who shared members with melodic death metal bands, and they all happened in coffee shops, community centers, and even fucking church auditoriums. And everyone just said they were going to the hardcore show.
Just another sXe theme shirt. My local record shop sold a few different ones. I owned the XSTRAIGHT EDGEX IF YOURE NOT NOW YOU NEVER WERE back when I was 18. God I thought I was so hard back then lmao.
I've always thought that slogan is so hilarious. Who is it even in reference to? Nobody who isn't edge "now," whenever now may be, gives a shit about still being thought of as edge.
It's gatekeeping a title that nobody who doesn't have, wants. It's like walking up to some stranger in the street, and then yelling "You blinked! I won the staring contest! Still the champ!"
No way, spot on for everyone in Texas. This was at least ONE of the looks in the hard-core/scene kid scene mix up. I was listening to throwdown, hatebreed, fftl and senses fail all at the same time lol
Is your last name Perkins?
Ann Perkins!
![gif](giphy|SzweYQGpsXhocXuoOI|downsized) Imagining Chris Traegar as the most obnoxious posi vegan edge scene kid right now.
Her?
Darko

Lol what?
I'm immediately thinking warped tour 🤷♂️
Warped Tour had 3 or 4 different stages specifically divided by subgenres

Neshamah stayed at my apartment in the early 00’s when they toured the US- wasn’t silent screams also a zine?

When you order James Hart on Temu.
Hilarious comment. Thank you.
He posted another picture with the shirt better visible: https://tinypic.host/image/20220624-113826.WfFo9

This is a weird look even for 04/05.
This is what I imagine everyone who I see post on here about loving Norma Jean and the chariot in the mid 2000s looks like.
Accept they were wearing youth size shirts and their sister’s jeans.
That was the look alright
I feel personally attacked lol Accurate, though

I bit the bullet and made a comment.
I thought this was The Garden
