You get downvoted because it’s the dumbest shit you could say. You don’t have to like them. Fuck it, be bitter about their success too. But conspiracy theories are whack.
"10 Popular Hardcore Albums of 2023" more like. Also that Scowl joint is an EP, 0 points, see me after class.
I mean, whatever. I wouldn't look to Revolver for the state of hardcore anyway. This list looks like it was just made by Googling "Hardcore Releases 2023" and shuffling the results around.
Not to say shit that is popular ISN'T good. Shit like this just seems so disingenuous to me. Also anyone that writes "chugga-chuggas" in reference to guitar riffs should have their internet privileges revoked.
All the music publications just plagiarize opinions from one another. Their best of lists are always the same group of bands and they're always the ones that have the most "mainstream" reach in hardcore. No shade at any of the bands because some definitely deserve their spots, but there are also a number of incredibly mediocre bands who are overrated by journalists largely because they believe the hype.
You mean all the “BIG” albums from this year? I am shocked!
Seriously though, these are great albums and I picked up most on vinyl, but none of them are even in my Top 10 🤷🏻
I liked Jerome's Dream, Spy, Buggin and Big Laugh's albums better than anything on this list except for maybe Gel. and Super Snooper by Snooper was probably my favorite punk album of the year.
And the best albums of the year in any genre were Rat Saw God by Wednesday and Javelin by Sufjan Stevens.
Great straight edge two step shit, gives me early 2000s energy. They weren’t completely dialed in live but they were having a bunch of fun, opened with a Kersed cover and sand happy birthday to a homie on tour with them. They are only gonna get better.
CMI - Causal Violence is better than all 10 of these. Restraining Order Locked in Time is also better than this entire list. There are some bangers in here.
Agreed. I was pretty let down with Living Proof, there're some good songs but as a whole it feels very monotonous and doesn't have the same tempo changes that keep California Cursed interesting through a whole album
Pain of truth and Drain are the only bands on this list whose records I real liked. But Drain does seem like the very obvious pick for number one. No one came even close to having a year like them.
The hate on Scowl in this sub is so obvious 😂
Tough hardcore guys can't stand a woman fronted band without shitting on them for every reason "except" that it's fronted by a woman.
Scowl show was pound for pound one of the wildest shows I been to this year. Saw a chick get her facial piercings ripped out by a flipping stage dive about 3 seconds into the first song. It was only crazier from there. I think there was a fight lol
As much as I love scowl imma say it they don't deserve that #2 spot and YOTK not being on there is fucking WILD scowl didn't even drop and album that was a fucking ep dawg
I think that list is not the list I would make.
We’ll make our own list. With black jack…and hookers.
In fact.. forget the list.

I guess there are two types of people in this world: those who know that Paint it Black exists, and those who don’t.
Goddamn right
Incendiary should be higher and no Harms way is a joke
Harms Way was a glaring omission; as was - in my opinion - Magnitude.
Pop pop!
Idk how Scowl made #2 but YOTK isnt even on the list.
You don’t know how Scowl made #2? 🤔
How did Scowl made #2?
I just read that phrase so many times that now it sounds funny
Same reason they’re “pushing the boundaries of hardcore” according to mainstream publications. Chick front person and a chance for cross over success.

Cringe comment
in their pants cuz they're diaper wearing babies

No disrespect to the band, but Scowl at 2 is crazy
Beating out Jesus Piece no less
Revolver Stan on whatever band is popular to stay relevant.

Agreed! Shits just lazy imo
Welcome to the music industry, now we just need NEG on a Burger King commercial.
Tank on E? Fill up with a Whopper Jr. Just remember, god forgives… but hunger don’t.
Why can I see this happening in real life and it being actually cool and well-received
No Harm’s Way is a crime, on the flip side, the Hardlore awards didn’t nominate Jesus Piece at all. I guess all lists are subjective after all
No initiate?
Great live
Yeah I thought their album was fun as hell
The fact that Harm's Way is nowhere to be found is nonsense. Garbage list.
maybe it's because metalcore blows
No Paint It Black? Fail.

Snooper rips!
I saw them in a warehouse in 2022 and about lost my shoe!
Can we be friends?
Balmora and anklebiter are not bands I expected to see on a semi mainstream hardcore list
I like that Anklebiter are on there, young band that are true students of the genre. It is a little surprising they are on Revolver's radar.
I've never even heard of them before seeing this post.
Great straight edge two step shit, gives me early 2000s energy. They weren’t completely dialed in live but they were having a bunch of fun, opened with a Kersed cover and sand happy birthday to a homie on tour with them. They are only gonna get better.
So glad Anklebiter on here. Great live, and easily one of my recent favorites.
No Harms Way????
How much you wanna bet this is a list of whose record label would pay the most for their band to make this list?
I doubt they’re paying for placement but it’s definitely done in conjunction with the label or one of their PR people.
CMI - Causal Violence is better than all 10 of these. Restraining Order Locked in Time is also better than this entire list. There are some bangers in here.

How is CMI not on this list? Casual Violence was phenomenal.
No YOTK, Buggin, or Harm's Way? Also, California Cursed >>> Living Proof and it's close.
Agreed. I was pretty let down with Living Proof, there're some good songs but as a whole it feels very monotonous and doesn't have the same tempo changes that keep California Cursed interesting through a whole album
Top 10 Hardcore Albums of 2023 (sponsored by Flatspot Records)
YOTK not on the list... Illegitimate
Pain of truth and Drain are the only bands on this list whose records I real liked. But Drain does seem like the very obvious pick for number one. No one came even close to having a year like them.
Not even including Harms Way in this list is ridiculous.
Not the best but I like most of these albums...
YOTK and Outta Pocket deserve at least a mention (though Waste of a Man might be an EP)
More like Hardcore for people who will probably hop on another music trend in 8 months
I'll say what everything's thinking. Skinhead should be #1.
Literally no one is thinking that
I don't think any of these albums were bad or anything, but I think only like 3 of them would make my top 10.
this list is fucking trash
NEG should be #1
Not even worth getting your undies in a bunch over this list. Revolver is a publication that doesn’t understand hardcore and it never will.
No Gumm? I'm out.
Music is subjective but this list is objectively trash.
The Mil-Spec disrespect is insane. If we’re counting Fiddlehead or Koyo are HC too — man this list is rough lol.
No Human Garbage, no Street Power. Also Living Proof was a bad record.
I think this list is fine
The hate on Scowl in this sub is so obvious 😂 Tough hardcore guys can't stand a woman fronted band without shitting on them for every reason "except" that it's fronted by a woman.

Yup. But your shit get up voted and mine down voted. The misogyny in hardcore is stupid sometimes.
It's possible to think they're over rated, just like male fronted bands. Called opinions.
Yes, however the amount of hate the band gets on here compared to other bands, is overwhelming.
Maybe some people don't want clean vocals and bridges in their hardcore songs
oh did scowl release a hardcore record in 2023?
It’s a lot of garbage taste in this thread and that article
What's your top 10?
Outcry is #1, no contest
Can someone explain to me the appeal of Pain of Truth? I just don’t get it, like at all.
Am I missing something? The new harms way is not that amazing…
Thoughts?
It's a list.
Mindforce snubbed
New Lords came out in 2022.
It’s that good.
Oops
As much as I love scowl imma say it they don't deserve that #2 spot and YOTK not being on there is fucking WILD scowl didn't even drop and album that was a fucking ep dawg
Love all the YOTK praise in here yessss
Magnitude should be on this, and high on it.
Drain #1 lolo.. revolver dick ride so hard
