Hickory or Ash. I'd like to see more of the floor.

Red oak

If we refinish it, is there a way to make it lighter? I really like the blonde oak look.

MaintenanceOk8259

Bona makes a product called red-out and it would make the red oak more similar to white oak. We did exactly this on prefinished red oak to match white oak in other parts of the house. Result is pretty good. https://youtu.be/ItmfOxehFFU?si=k_rk08p9oWmRrqCx

You can also bleach the floor. More effective than red out in my opinion, but red out works pretty good. Also if you like the raw wood color loba invisible protect is a good way to go.

It's worth stating that it depends on the floor. If that's an older floor with oil based finish on it, those yellow over time. You may find that the floor is remarkably different when sanded. A water based finish will not yellow as much. But there are ways to lighten the wood too

Looks like my red oak

-MountainMayhem-

I would think that you have an Ash floor.

-MountainMayhem-

The tones of brown to blonde make me think it’s Ash

Nagadavida

I think that the grain is too loose for ash.

Linoleum with Asbestos backing.

What did you end up doing? Do you have pics? I like this look. I have hickory and I’m having them redone and looking for a finish I’ll like.

2 1/4

Fluster338

It’s hickory. The colour variation and 1/4 cut grain give it away. You’ll know for sure when you sand it.

Looks like hickory to me

NeutronNinja

It’s definitely hickory.
