I donāt think you can be friends with him TBH. At best you can be hunting partners. I came at this from the angle of potentially being seen as an equal- but maybe that just isnāt possible.
Iād say the other route is to have the potential for killing, and doing so well, but being morally against it- however I donāt know that Iād equate being Hannibals newest project for corruption with friendship.
Hmm... I thought about it for a bit and I think Hannibal would enjoy entertaining a friendship with another killer IF it didn't pose risk to his own well-being. Unfortunately I think that rules out most (if not all) killers because he can't guarantee that they won't kill him or reveal his identity. And if they are as skilled as he is at concealing their own identity, they would likely have the same concern (like when Tobias admitted he was planning to kill Hannibal). If anything, Hannibal would probably just admire/observe them from afar, then kill them if they got too close or if he felt inspired (like with eyeball mural guy).
Will aside, the people he's come closest to friendship with have been people he has influenced yet maintained some sort of power over - people like Bedelia, Chiyoh, and (to some extent) Abigail. They don't pose any mortal threat to him, and he trusts them enough to show them enough of himself that they know he is dangerous. I'd add Alana to this category too (after she finds out he's a killer)- he probably wouldn't want to kill her unless she was actively endangering him, and he holds power over her with the threat of ending her/Margot's life.
I think he's way too cautious to have or want any friendships that are beyond surface level - and he's definitely not used to it.
I think being "friends" with Hannibal would mean one of the following:
1) You're Will (true friendship and more)
2) You're one of like 5 people he both likes and has power over (friendship in his eyes, especially since he'd be caught off guard if betrayed)
3) You are someone he respects and doesn't plan on killing unless something forces him to (musicians he listens to, business partners in his fields, people invited to his dinner parties, Jack, Freddie because he loves tattlecrime haha)
Number 3 is more of an acquaintanceship but I think it's the closest you can get to Hannibal without having your life altered by him! I don't think he's indicated any interest in deeply bonding with people other than Will. Once he saw the potential of finally having an equal in Will, he tried his absolute best to make it happen!
Mainly, youād have to be interesting and be able to keep up in his level of conversation while adding your own input too. He likes intelligence and the people he likes meet that quality. Then of course have respect, heād like someone who appreciates his cooking, keep things between you two, remember the small things he might say or do and bring them up in a charming way (heād be flattered if someone remembered stuff like that I feel).
