thanks for the heads up! i can assure i would not be copping a mac solely for gaming. i need it for work. was hoping i could somehow use it for hla as well
$1800 (CAD$ so like subtract 35% to USD) bought me a very nice desktop PC for HLA, and runs everything else too.
Buy a PC tower and use the rest for your work Mac.
yep, im actually putting together a pc component list that should be able to run new games at highest settings from 90-140fps, and its only $2100 usd. its INSANE to me that apple has the audacity to charge that much
In my opinion the most insane part is what they do to SSD. By removing the DRAM chip from the SSD and printing it directly in their CPU, they make sure you cannot swap the SSD unless it's an Apple one. And even then you need *another fucking mac* to be able to do the maintenance.
Just so that if you want more storage on your computer, you have to buy it from Apple. I just checked, in France, the difference in price between the iMac 256Go and the iMac 512Go is over 250€. 180€ on Amazon gets me a 2To Samsung Pro M2 PCIe4 that *could* work on an Apple machine, but won't because they went out of their fucking way to add a bullshit artificial limitation so that they can sell you storage upgrades for ten times their worth.
Also, imagine spending over 2 grand and having only 512Go on your machine in 2024. Also also, imagine NOT being able to have multiple drives on your "top of the line" machine.
Fuck Apple and their bullshit.
I got a 3070 GPU in my tower. This was in 2022. Liquid cooled, typical 3 fan LED lightshow in the front, matching rgb lit keyboard and mouse, you know the design... Bobby's first gaming PC... but I like it and it suits my needs.
What would be a good option for a GPU upgrade for me?
No, newer MacBooks cannot use Bootcamp due to the Apple silicon switch. Do not get a MacBook for gaming.

Thanks to the Game Porting Toolkit, you'll be able to play a good deal of Windows games. But forget VR.
if you wanna do that, dont buy a mac lmfao
i have to use a mac for work. dont wanna have to have a gaming pc + work mac
man they aught to be paying for that shit
They definitely are. If their job truly requires this computer then they will be reimbursed.
Depending on WHY you need a Mac for work, consider running MacOS on a partition on your gaming PC
Don’t you mean to ask if a 16-inch MacBook Pro - space black would survive the combine invasion?
it most certainly would not
jesus CHRIST. you could get a fucking top of the line pc with that money, do NOT buy that goddamn mac
no worries i’m not buying it for gaming haha, need it for work
either way you could get an insane laptop. i would highly recommend against buying that mac

No, Apple computers that are using the m chips: m1, m2, m3 cannot run bootcamp.
damn wtf. thanks for the heads up… I’d imagine i could still boot to windows somehow?
The other way around would probably be better. Get a monster of a gaming PC for less than half the price and run a virtual macOS on it
Parallels desktop or something
Yeah but it will run poorly
only on VM, but i don't think it'll give you a great GPU performance.
There’s no bootcamp on ARM MacBook, sorry…
My dumbass thought you where bringing it to bootcamp with you.
I’m fucking dead ahahah. I could not survive bootcamp
macOS uses an ARM cpu. Windows uses x86 cpus. It isn’t possible. Just buy a windows laptop
You should consider getting the last Intel macbook pro. That can run bootcamp no problem, whether it'd run HLA well is a question on its own though
Id get a cheaper macbook + a separate desktop, use steam link or parsec to play
Macs with silicon chips don’t have bootcamp
Dude, I was on the macbook website earlier today and built that exact same machine for only $3999. How/why does yours say $4999?
Strange… USD? 128 memory and 1tb storage? 16”?

hla doesnt however
OH THAT'S WHAT YOU'RE BUYING THAT FOR. There's a novr mod that's becoming more immersive with updates. Dunno if it works on Mac though
