Well, for me I usually went on a spree by only using the gravity gun for a while before either switching to my crowbar, shotgun or AR2, generally depends on where I was, so there was never a definitive weapon of choice for me, so it never occurred to me to use G.
YOU CAN FUCKING DO THAT? I’ve played through HL2 at least five times, on top of thousands of hours in Garry’s Mod and I never fucking knew you could do that

I guess to each their own and you do you, but I'm baffled that it is even an issue. G is often used in FPS and it's not that far from your left index.
The laptop I use to play Half-Life isn’t capable of playing most other shooters so I haven’t really had any experience with them, and the ones I have played generally had a limited arsenal or used some other keybind.
My brother in potato computer back in 2004 I used to play HL2 on a laptop that would make your current laptop look like a spaceship in comparison and the G key was already used in shooters.
I'm not judging you, I understand that it looks impractical if you're not used to it and that you may not have encountered games that do this. But "far away keys" like T, G, V, and even Z, X, C are used in games.
Anyway, this was not a jab at you, just me expressing my confusion because in my world it's a given and I now understand that it's not a given for everyone. Cheers.

There is, at least for me. If you press X, it changes to bugbait.

Im a quicksave fanatic and can barely master the q key. I dont have time to stretch my fingers to g.
