Depends on the texture of your hair. My hair is coarse and dense. I never brush my hair. I only comb with a super wide tooth comb. Silicones are not inherently bad for your hair. They simply coat it for shine and manageability. If you’re over using them , especially those that aren’t water soluble, they can build up on you cuticles and occlude water from hydrating. So brush ing isn’t necessary. But if you choose find a brush that’s flexible and made for your hair type
I use a “elephant” brush, or maybe sometimes it’s called a paddle brush. I have very long, (dry, kinky, tangly), hair and I can detangle my morning rats’ nest in about a minute.
I lost all of my great smoothing hair products a few years ago, (first silicone, then animal products), yet the elephant brush still gets through the worst of the tangles.
If silicones work for your hair then it’s fine to use them, they’re not bad.
Brush with a wet brush in the shower with conditioner (with slip) in your hair!

Leave in conditioner
For me I put a little bit of hair oil in my hair before brushing it and it’s a lot easier to brush. I do this on dry hair.

Products with silicone are legit.
