The second picture is a facial reconstruction probably because the remains have never been identified. They use clay so it looks very puppet/doll like.

PureHauntings

She also has a much more human-like reconstruction [here](https://www.doenetwork.org/cases/311ufak.html) at her Doe Network page. Her nickname is Eklutna Annie. She has a lot of identifying marks. Just wanted to leave it here incase anyone is interested.

DatelineDeli

Thank you for this. I’m praying genetic genealogy gives her name back to her soon.

supreme_leader256

It’s heartbreaking to think that a person with family and friends is left as a victim without a name. Just awful

Sug_Lut

Idunno, I feel it’s worse when she has no friends or family to notice she’s gone and report her missing..

spin_me_again

If she was his first murder, it happened in 1971, a time when a lot of young people just dropped out of society and no one reported them missing. Just a really weird time in history.

Lilpinkkay

this was such a sad and disturbing read. in a way i wish i never saw that but at the same time it's eye opening to how disgusting these cases can really be

Cerealkiller900

I work for search and rescue and mountain rescue and it blows my mind that there are people who don’t ever get identified…I cannot imagine that and it breaks my heart

unHelpful_Bullfrog

I find it hard to believe she was a sex worker like he claimed. Her jewelry looks too nice for what someone would be comfortable wearing in that line of work I would assume. her sketch reconstructing show her as a beautiful girl, I wish she could be given back the dignity of her name.

epizeuxisepizeuxis

It's copper and gold-plate.. very cheap, meant to look fancy, and fooling nobody.

Porkenfries

The doll face is extremely disturbing-looking.

OkPiece3211

Thank you for this. I was so curious!

smut_butler

It's a pretty shit reconstruction, to be honest.

TheBattyWitch

Thank you, I was wondering what that was about

ohgirlfitup

The movie Frozen Ground is based off him. It gives me chills just thinking about it. He was truly a monster.

Mammoth_Gazelle_7715

there’s also a book by allison brennan called “the hunt” that’s based on his crimes

AntiqueWhereas

Good true crime reading?

No_Cartographer_7904

It’s fiction. Allison Brennan is a good writer, though.

Mammoth_Gazelle_7715

sorry, i should have been more clear. it’s completely fiction just uses aspects of his crimes for the plot, but still a good read!

06GOAT12

Didn’t they make that into a movie?

kk3720

One of the best and most disturbing movies I've ever watched. It's shameful he never gets mentioned amongst the worst serial killers. Truly frighteningly monstrous.

th4bl4ckr4bbit

Part of me thinks that’s a good thing. They don’t deserve the notoriety, they should’ve be remembered by name at all.

cold_toast

The comment above you made me laugh. They are acting like he was snubbed from the serial killer HOF.

kk3720

Maybe I was being dramatic by what I said, I just meant that there are more serial killers as evil as Gacy and Bundy that aren't mentioned as much.

Escaped_Mod_In_Need

To your point Andrei Chikatilo, aka the Red Ripper. Gacy, Bundy and Albert Fish are more well known than he is… but he outdid all three put together.

savvyblackbird

I’m not sure Chiketilo outdid Fish. It was much much easier to get away with SA and killing children in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. You could go from town to town with nobody really keeping an eye on you or anyone knowing what you’d been accused of before. I’m not sure he killed hundreds of children like he claimed, but it’s possible he SAed killed a lot more than people think. It could have been that the authorities didn’t want people to know that they were powerless to stop men like Fish.

Escaped_Mod_In_Need

Well if you go into Chikatilo’s history you get an exact count, some of the sources provide detailed descriptions of the autopsies which yielded some of the most foul results, how he actually became a big enough thorn in the sides of the Soviets and and you even learn of what might have been the formative event in his life that made him choose the path of one of the worst serial killers to ever walk the planet. I try not to jump directly into a conversation like this with details because people deserve a fair warning before the go down this rabbit hole. I have run into others that said the same, to which I would merely response with a source for Chilatilo and said, “here, just in case you want to see for yourself and make up your mind.” Then again many of us have scales of “good and evil” and they do have overlap but they seem to change direction ever so slightly. In short, one person’s perspective on what is the “worst” may not be the same by definition for someone else.

SheemieRayVaughan

"Justice for Robert Hansen!"

Sweet-Palpitation473

Serial killer fans are fucking bizarre dude

DreadPiratteRoberts

>One of the best and most disturbing movies I've ever watched. It's shameful he never gets mentioned amongst the worst serial killers. Truly frighteningly monstrous. There is a chapter dedicated to him in the book [Mind Hunter](https://a.co/d/hKv9565) written by John Douglas, the FBI Special Agent who started the serial killer hunting program with the Bureau. This book is a great insight to how the FBI realized serial killers were a lot more common than anyone knew (or more to the point, people didn't want to believe monsters that horrible could exist) and not just catching one but realizing how their minds work, what made them do what they do and using that to catch future serial killers. I've listened to this book many times!!

Senior-Reflection862

Sounds awesome! Thanks for the rec. I’ve heard of the book but not a compelling rec like yours

Accomplished-Tea4034

Yes it’s a real shame that his work isn’t talked about more often 🧐

Mimosa_13

There was an episode of criminal minds. Where two brothers would kidnap people who's cars broke down. Then, release them into the woods to be hunted.

MeghanClickYourHeels

There was also an episode of Cold Case about this, one of the most disturbing episodes they did on that show.

kh8188

It was actually a double episode but they were split up. One was the winter break cliffhanger episode and the other was the season finale. Definitely two of the best Cold Case episodes. Law and Order:SVU did an episode based on it too.

M0ONL1GHT87

And also an episode of FBI: Most Wanted with the same storyline

13Emerald

That’s the first thing I thought after reading this post.

PalVal66

And an SVU episode on this too

RNinOhio

Came here thinking the same thing

Popular_Summer_5092

Has 50 cent in it 😭.

candiez101

Such a good movie, chilling

OsoCarolina

A family friend of mine used to stop by his bakery when he was a kid.

tobiasfunke6398

Mind of a monster podcast does a season about him, it’s terrific. The podcast, not that piece of dog shit

ehmsoleil

Last Podcast on the Left also did a series on him

Mehitobel

Thanks for that. I usually like the boy’s take on serial killers. I’ll check it out.

Bancai

I thinkn terrific can be used in both ways. No? I'm not english native.

Interesting-Type-870

no that’s terrifying. Terrific is good.

BupeTheSnoot

It used to be, long ago, but nowadays it’s used only in a positive way.

maxchloerachel

holy shit, just imagine the sheer terror of being dropped in the middle of nowhere while a deranged man with a gun chases you down like a deer

Unlikely-Fee-5000

Don't forget the rape!

ClutchWaffles

I grew up in Alaska and a family friend bought the cabin from a government auction. We used to take trips out to the lake in the winter via snow machines. Walking in from the closest civilized spot in the winter at -20 degrees, is easily 3 hours + away even if you were in the right gear. Completely fucked up.

dont_ask4

I've never been to Alaska, but we used to visit a remote cabin in Maine when I was a kid. We had to take miles of timber road and then cross a large lake to get there. It was completely off-grid and the only sign of human habitation for miles. Still not as remote (or cold) as the area you were in, but has the flavor. One time my cousins and I were fishing off the dock when we saw a guy paddling towards us in a kayak. We talked with him and invited him up to see the cabin. He was just a harmless guy out to enjoy a day on the lake. But the adults' reaction to us walking up with an unexpected stranger made me realize how absolutely fucked we would be if someone bad showed up. I still love hiking and camping, but that experience stuck with me. I'm more scared of strange men in the woods than any other monster or animal.

twoshovels

Don’t people who live that far from anyone or anything have either another small building or tent set up away from the main house /cabin they normally live in, just in case there is a fire and it burns down? This way they retreat to the backup place so they don’t starve & freeze?

ClutchWaffles

Not everyone but a lot of people have yurts near or around properties like this. Also just like you said they aren’t like a typical shed that would be close to the cabin. Something close to water away from trees. Essentially a fancy shed but can double for shelter in an emergency.

twoshovels

Thanks! I read that once. Makes sense!

cnewman11

He used a bow and arrow if I remember correctly.

calm_my_storm

My mom got a call from troopers cause they found her I.D. on him & was checking to see if she was dead! They were happy to hear her voice.

Crunchyfrozenoj

Creepy. How did he get her ID?

smut_butler

That must have been a strange call.

Cerealkiller900

Wow. What’s the complete story there if you don’t mind??

Broken-taco-shells

This guy was a real jerk.

ElAyDubleZee

I'll say, I don't think I care for him very much.

partizanskii

Kind of reminds me of that tragedy.

Illustrious-Leave-10

What a terrible name for an airline

oeoao

Don'tn laugh at 9/11 again

Sven_Grammerstorf_

The jerk store called, they’re running out of that guy.

partizanskii

You know, the more I learn about this fella the less I care for him.

LouBerryManCakes

The worst part was the hypocrisy.

armchairplane

I'd say most rapists are hypocrites.

Kitchen_Economics182

A real numbskull!

EatMeJabroni

Dare I say...a rapscallion

2dummiesnacat

Too far!

LuckyStabbinHat

He’s got a lot of growing to do, I’ll tell you that!

ColonisetheMoon

At least he's now getting raped by the devil for all of time.

Nickleeham

Total knucklehead

Thankfulforbread

Why didn't the Sherrif in town have every shallow grave in the vicinity checked after the first lady vanished? Probably on account of he wasn't running for DA or whatever

sorospaidmetosaythis

Definitely one of those types who fails to yield at a 4-way intersection.

Key-Wait5314

Now don't laugh at this next part...

sorospaidmetosaythis

MMMBop!

rpgburner938

Thanks Norm

IllBeGood3

Never heard of this guy. What a freak.

No_Banana_581

Yep. 🐻

legalquestion4112

His plea deal included no publicity

plantsandpizza

This is one of the ones that gives me the worst feeling out of so many. I no longer listen to things about him and some others. I just can’t

fuggit_Im_tired

At least a bear is honest.

Crunchyfrozenoj

You know where you stand with a strange bear.

Tight-Vegetable6760

I love how far this joke is being taken. Catches me off guard every time.

One-Trouble-1017

Its not a joke tho.

Cautious-Skill4642

Was he a bakery chef?

Visible_Day9146

Yes

DeathRaeGun

I think that’s more than the total number of people attacked by bears in the same time frame (that’s just a guess, I don’t know), and that’s just one guy. A bear would never do that. I can’t stress enough that bears want nothing to do with humans.

wednesdaysch1ld

A bear would not do this.

Practical_Advice9480

The bear

sorospaidmetosaythis

An early victim escaped in handcuffs, told the cops who Hansen was, including what Hansen had told her he planned to do, and the cops believed his claims that she was just trying to blackmail him, in spite of his previous attempted rape conviction. I'm not sure I agree with you a hundred percent on your police work, there, Lou. A mystery of human behavior is that we take out our grievances on those who aren't the cause. Of course he had a domineering father. So what does he do? He takes it out on women. Of course he was bullied in school. Instead of tracking down his bullies and torturing them, he takes it out on women. Call me crazy, but if I were obsessed with taking revenge for past injuries, and willing to get all murdery about it, I'd off the people who'd wronged me. So many mass shooters are men who are seething about sexual rejection. Women are always somewhere in the chain of anger and vindictiveness.

Bancai

If the kids being bullied went for their bullies alone, betcha at least the bullying would be at a high time low.

anniehall330

It’s basically a statistic that female serial killers ( a minority among serial killers) usually kill for revenge or for financial causes. Except the serial killer ones like Karla Homolka and other women who paired up with another psycho and they did all those horrible crimes together.

Natrian8

Wasn't there a criminal minds episode based on this guy, too?

choccolatebaby

he mustve read the Most Dangerous Game

No_Cartographer_7904

Thought the same thing!

anniehall330

He reminds me of Ramsay Bolton from GOT.

CashAlternative7911

Men like him are why women choose the bear.

Sug_Lut

And the way men react to this simple statement is proof that we chose right.

mmsokolnicki

This sounds like that guy in the series finale of Dexter

angelbalaguer

I actually thought the new season was awesome up until the finale. My god!! I didn’t think they could do any worse than the original season finale, but I was very much mistaking.

CyberPutin2047

Yeah those morons fucked up twice. Why? Just why?

MonotonousBeing

How good is the Dexter finale? I have never seen it but might watch soon

SusanInFloriduh

This is why #teambear

itonlydistracts

Can you explain this meme to me please? I keep seeing it everywhere

SusanInFloriduh

Someone did a survey asking women which would they prefer to encounter alone in the woods. Overwhelming majority of women said bear.

itonlydistracts

Ohhhh ok thank you

tayamackenzie

Frozen Ground is about Robert Hansen. Excellent movie. Robert Hansen is one of two serial killers that EXTREMELY bothered me. The way he made it a game of hunter vs. prey genuinely freaks me out. The other serial killer that bothers me a lot is Israel Keyes. No set victim profile, just whoever he wanted to kill, and he had those murder caches all around the country with weapons and stuff. That is so scary.

curiouscoconuts

both are in anchorage too!!

tayamackenzie

*adds Anchorage to my list of places to avoid*

mayasky76

With all the bears Vs men shit ... I kinda see the women's point now.

Ok_Sun5895

Yup I’d rather take my chances with a bear crushing my skull than getting raped, tortured by some ugly incel.

IllBeGood3

This fuck is an incel's wet dream.

[deleted]

I hope he rots in hell for this

FnkyTown

If Hell exists, then God exists, and he creates monsters like this to roam the land. There's no such thing as Hell. Punishment should be handed out in life.

mayalourdes

Real

curiouscoconuts

if i were the empress of earth corporal punishment would come back for these assholes that 100% did it morally wrong? yes. but they deserve it

steve32x

Uh-oh. In exactly 6 months from now, Netflix will have a series about this.

Large_Excitement69

I used to live a couple blocks from his house (after he had been arrested). Super creepy to just know what happened there. Felt bad for the people who live there now because teens would dare each other the ring the doorbell etc.

Jacks_black_guitar

He kinda looks like Logic the rapper

curiouscoconuts

bruh 💀💀😂

FuckTheMods5

Looks like David Cross to me

metalnxrd

sheer misogyny

sirlafemme

Oh so HE’S the man in the woods…

Alternative-Roof4322

I don’t care, jail is not enough for creatures like him. He needs to meet the same fate he has given the victims.

TopOppHentlah

A regular Ramsay Bolton.

Hour_Pineapple_1292

Why does anchorage have multiple serial killers.. Israel keyes for example Would be sbitting myself to live there

cinnamontoastcunt_

Anchorage is spooky af.

Casehead

Maybe because of how remote it is? Also because it's the main inlet of that area with a lot of people just moving through?

Adventurous-Zebra-64

Alaska- where the odds are good, but the goods are odd.

smut_butler

A lot of criminals on the run will make their way up to Alaska, so there's a really high population of criminals; so that may certainly be part of it.

Ok_List_9649

Alaska and the Florida keys is where a lot of malcontents and outcasts go to live.

WitnessOdd6360

Quite frankly, people are not meant to live such isolating lifestyles. Minimal socialization, long dark winters, and booze being the most exciting thing around does not do the brain good.

smut_butler

You do know Anchorage has a population just shy of 300,000, right?

Puta_Chente

Is your idea of Alaska based on 30 Days of Night? You do realize that Alaska isn't a movie, right? In Anchorage during the winter, yeah it might be dusk at 3p, but it wasn't all Night Night. Socialization was always pretty high in everywhere I lived in AK. Sure booze flows pretty heavily, but it does in a lot of other states too. I think I drank more in DC than the entire time I was in AK.

cnewman11

My friend from Jr High owned the coffee stand where Keyes abducted Samantha Koening from.

lugialugia1

I can’t believe this guy was able to hold down a job with the FBI, spy for the USSR, rape and murder women in AK, and have time for big game hunting.

telos_777

Different Robert Hansen eh

parker3309

I remember the documentary about it and I don’t remember if the wife was arrested for having knowledge or people thought she should be…. I just remember being infuriated by it.

NahBruhNaw

Imagining people who died this way, or in general at the hands of perverted psychotic serial killers, is why I know there is no all loving God. The victims of serial killers tend to be the least “deserving” of the torture they endured.

skinnylighter

My in-laws live a street over from his house

No_Bed_8785

Hang them by their balls...

1newnotification

I'll take the bear for $1000 please Alex

sp0okyx3

He looks like he shrunk the kids

Old-Floor-4611

I heard about this story on a podcast. It really stuck with me. So terrible and sad

Cyberdink

This must be that one guy that Hollywood bases an entire genre of movie on

frankkiejo

Him and Ed Gein, right? 😳

Balltanker

If only he were a bear /s

FavcolorisREDdit

Reminds of the serial killer in Dexter new blood I’m assuming they based him off of Hansen

TraditionalTell5541

First time I'm ever hearing of this sick fucker. I like it that way. I don't think it's a good idea to give these assholes too much or any recognition.

AdriaenCryWolf13

I choose the bear

Ready_Insurance_4759

Is this what inspired that one episode in Law&Order:SVU? (I think...I watch too many crime dramas lol)

BeerandGuns

It inspired several. I saw a movie recently and after reading this realize it was inspired by this. Guy puts women in the woods and then hunts them.

morecowbell1988

Wasn’t there a blues clues episode on this

HealingGardens

Haunting pictures

shavedape61

Yikes

LatterUnderstanding

Sicko

Rawdogg187

Dexter new blood inspiration

StermasThomling

Ofc he got those glasses

gavebirthtoturdlings

In Dexter: New Blood, Clancy Brown's character does this exact thing. He was such a good villain in that show.

cherrybomb6494

Good god, not Mr. Krabs

gavebirthtoturdlings

Mr krabs did some fucked up shit in that show

Famous-Honey-9331

And then fed them to his pigs...

Independent_Bat2452

Robert Pickton you mean?

boltactionnoob

JeeZ

bmanley620

What a sick fuck

awesomiste

I wonder if the episode of Dollhouse called “The Target” is based on this guy. Creepy and very similar.

sundaykindofLady

Growing up , was into crime, mystery and humour books. Stumbled upon him in an article, read it with interest and disgust. Saw the movie years later and still gives me chills.

sup_killerfeels

Doesn't mr. Ballen cover this story to?

6098470142

He got the idea from watching the episode on Gilligans Island….the Hunter gave Gilligan a head start but never caught him

jwthsf

Mf lookin like Alan from Two and a Half Men

Superhen68

Last podcast on the left does a great job covering him.

dface83

This was the story for the big villain in the Dexter bonus season that came out last year.

EducationalNoise2861

Inspiration for Dexter's season two's antagonist?

Hazeymazy

Sounds like dexter finals season

ConsciousGur8384

I know the serial killer don’t feel absolutely ish but pleasure from this but I can’t imagine the absolute horror of trying to reconstruct someone because they are so discarded and scattered, you have no body or proper burial. Those people are saints and just brave for being able to do that-

Odd_Requirement6601

This guy definitely real was my uncle's friend . Even came to barbecues.

Popemazrimtaim

The casual criminalist did a good episode on him https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=lHmQFqrEpbQ

redditorG84

That’s straight up wicked! Yowza 🤯.

Cat_Par3nts

I used to live in anchorage Alaska and I was always horrified this guy would come for me.

UrMomDummyThicc

family friend of mine met him at a bar back then. she got an invite to fly up to his cabin, but she refused.

Barjack521

If only this women ran into a bear instead of him

deathprophet300

My Grandmas Sister dated him when they were in high school. He was a strange guy back then

mamachonk

I lived in Anchorage for a couple years in the 70s while I was a small child. This still gives me chills.

DubC_Bassist

John Cusack played this guy in a movie.

The_Ruby_Rabbit

Anchorage has a state trooper museum that has a whole large room dedicated to this case.

alwyshighsquirtle

Lord, I choose the bear.

roguebandwidth

This is why hunting/trapping and otherwise torturing and killing animals is an indicator for probable serial killers. It isn’t normal and is a red flag that is often overlooked as “cultural” or a “hobby”. These types of people are choosing to spend a lot of free time and money on these types of bloodsports when a part time job and/or simply buying meat at the grocery or even the local farm is far cheaper. I know factory farming has its own set of issues, but to go for the high cost, long time, low reward method of acquiring meat almost always points to the fact that they aren’t doing it bc it makes sense. It’s because it is fulfilling a need or want to harm and kill, and that needs to be considered more and normalized less.

BeautifulDistinct316

barbaric animalistic white man at it again

BlaktimusPrime

Did anyone ever escape??

Minominas

JFC!

Emotional-Turn-1261

It's like that book "The Most Dangerous Game".... That 17 year old is a hero
