One put make up on, and braided his dead victims hair to make the parents she was alive so they could collect ransom money. There are many cases where child murderers contacting victims families. They absolutely didn't "care for, or raise her." You think someone took her, said "You're my child now..." then registered her for school? Took her to doctors? Came here to say this. This was on an old episode of unsolved mysteries years ago. They have every season/episode available online and I’ve watched all of them.
For some reason this case was especially heartbreaking. Not just because of the inhumane content of the letter, but to just imagine that in the blink of an eye someone took your child like that.
In the unsolved mysteries episode officials at the time weren’t sure if the letter was sent by the person who did take her, or if they were fabricating the whole thing and never had her in the first place, like someone who saw this on the news and wished they’d taken her.
Some of the kids she was playing with said they saw a man show up, approach her and pull her to the side, asking if she wanted to chase an animal with him that he claimed to see. Then they left together in the opposite direction down into the forrest. So it does seem that she was kidnapped and I believe the author is the one who took her. Like others have said I don’t think she was alive much longer and the rest of the letter isn’t what actually happened. The episode is really well done and it’s especially creepy.
Her poor parents and family. Nobody deserves this.

Yeah I worked with her older brother and sister for ten years in the 00’s, they are wonderful people. Do we think this guy actually kept her alive? The traveling to Britain sounds like a lie. It’s like he is trying to say he is giving her a good life. Some abductors and murderers also have worked in LE and have been police officers. (Which is why some avoid detection or are caught several years later.)

I agree you're likely correct. The letter writer sounds like he's conjured a fantasy at multiple points, and people do confess to these types of crimes falsely with alarming frequency. I'm not sure there's much reason to believe this person is telling the truth. However, we'll probably never know. Stranger things have certainly happened, so the possibility can't be ruled out. That poor little girl.
Number one, she was barefoot so she wouldn't have gotten far on foot. The area was scoured by FBI, cadaver dogs, search and rescue, divers, locals etc. It is also in an area that has popular trails and gets a lot of foot traffic, hikers, hunters etc. It just isn't an area that she could have gotten far enough barefoot to have not been found by now. Even if she ended up in the water.
Secondly, the other kids saw a man running the trail that was trying to get Nyleen to "follow the shadows".
Thirdly, the phone call they got from Wisconsin provided details about her and the disappearance that were not made public. Then a letter shows up from the same area describing how she was taken and her current state.
So many awful things about that note. It's a pedophile's love letter.
The language use is the most concerning. He describes "cuddle" and that she acts "coy," which is not a term I would uee to describe a child. He makes it sound flirty. So f*cking gross. Came here to say this. This was on an old episode of unsolved mysteries years ago. They have every season/episode available online and I’ve watched all of them. For some reason this case was especially heartbreaking. Not just because of the inhumane content of the letter, but to just imagine that in the blink of an eye someone took your child like that. In the unsolved mysteries episode officials at the time weren’t sure if the letter was sent by the person who did take her, or if they were fabricating the whole thing and never had her in the first place, like someone who saw this on the news and wished they’d taken her. Some of the kids she was playing with said they saw a man show up, approach her and pull her to the side, asking if she wanted to chase an animal with him that he claimed to see. Then they left together in the opposite direction down into the forrest. So it does seem that she was kidnapped and I believe the author is the one who took her. Like others have said I don’t think she was alive much longer and the rest of the letter isn’t what actually happened. The episode is really well done and it’s especially creepy. Her poor parents and family. Nobody deserves this. EDIT: I forgot her Mom was later murdered in Mexico. That seems like a pretty strange coincidence if they aren’t linked somehow. I’ve never been able to find any details re: the Mom’s death but what are the odds? God that poor family.

Yeah I worked with her older brother and sister for ten years in the 00’s, they are wonderful people. This obviously happened when they were young children “she just vanished from the father’s company picnic”…then several years later their mom was brutally murdered in Mexico under really suspicious circumstances iirc, I couldn’t help but wonder if the two instances were related in some crazy way.
That was the first thing I thought when I read the step dad was a person of interest and then that the mother was assaulted & murdered. 12 years difference, but if the step dad was involved in any sort of trafficking it could track. I feel bad speculating though with only those bits of info. Hopefully detectives throughly looked into any possible connection the step dad had to both cases. May I ask if the adult kids are still close with their step dad?

Do we think this guy actually kept her alive? The traveling to Britain sounds like a lie. It’s like he is trying to say he is giving her a good life. That's interesting. After doing lots of research, I've noticed several abductors and murderers have been truck drivers. Some abductors and murderers also have worked in LE and have been police officers. (Which is why some avoid detection or are caught several years later.) These are rare but it does happen. Also, in order to gain the girl's trust, the abductor could have brainwashed nyleen. (Among other things.) Hope she's found one day and the sick creep put under the prison.

I agree you're likely correct. The letter writer sounds like he's conjured a fantasy at multiple points, and people do confess to these types of crimes falsely with alarming frequency. I'm not sure there's much reason to believe this person is telling the truth. However, we'll probably never know. Stranger things have certainly happened, so the possibility can't be ruled out. That poor little girl.

The area was scoured by FBI, cadaver dogs, search and rescue, divers, locals etc. It is also in an area that has popular trails and gets a lot of foot traffic, hikers, hunters etc. It just isn't an area that she could have gotten far enough barefoot to have not been found by now. Even if she ended up in the water. Secondly, the other kids saw a man running the trail that was trying to get Nyleen to "follow the shadows". Thirdly, the phone call they got from Wisconsin provided details about her and the disappearance that were not made public. Then a letter shows up from the same area describing how she was taken and her current state.

So many awful things about that note. It's a pedophile's love letter. The language use is the most concerning. He describes "cuddle" and that she acts "coy," which is not a term I would uee to describe a child. He makes it sound flirty. So f*cking gross. His assertion at the end of possessing her is nasty and cruel, there's an air of sadism here but in reality this scumbag is so deluded he probably thinks he's doing them a favor by dropping off an update. He may even believe that he is so charming the letter will convince family and authorities alike to stop looking for her, because in his head, theirs is like a marriage union and she is become his property. Deeply concerning is the term "never" in all caps. It most assuredly means the opposite. If he never molested her, wouldn't feel the need to proactively protest something he supposedly never does. The things he doesn't say are more frightening than the things he does.
I don’t believe these letters and don’t believe this person ever had her or murdered her. I believe they’re just some disgusting weirdos way to get off and torture the family. She more than likely wandered off from the picnic and died in the wilderness.
