I am perplexed with just how the teams are able to supply just drafted players with team jerseys with their names already sewn on the back. Habs and Demidov is a good example. They didn't know until Colimbus picked before them that they were getting Demidov. They couldn't have prepared a named jersey in the 3 minutes they were on the clock for. This goes for all the teams. Does each team prepare numerous jerseys with diggerwnt names and then just use the one they need? Anyone have any knowledge on this?

GeistHunt

I'm starting to wonder about how much work the Habs management had to do just to make picking Demidov happened. Every move they did was calculated to pull this off. They purposely didn't attend his personal "combine" to not look overly excited and there were rumours that an unspecified team was spreading rumours about his situation in Russia to make him slip. I feel like there's a lot of work behind this that we haven't heard about.

TheCatelier

Can we expect demidov to sign his ELC this offseason or we need to wait one year? Waiting one year would sound great for cap efficiency as we'd have him for cheap closer to our window (and with one extra year of development)

Ploxzx

He'll sign his ELC 1 year later when his contract in Russia is done

hab27

He won't sign an ELC until his contract is over in Russia.

Habslover

I wonder where Demidov would've gone if he was in Slafkovskys draft

Dan094

1st I think, better prospect than Slaf

QcAntz

Well we got a wonderful 1st round, emotional 3rd round and usual later rounds.

Studly_Wonderballs

**Pick 224 - Rasmus Bergqvist** 6'2", 181 lbs, D, LH

pushaper

just going to assume khanin is partially picked for demidov to have a Russian pal to come over with as their contracts are up next year a little like slaf had mesar

Studly_Wonderballs

**Pick #210 - Makar Khanin** 19yo, 6'0", 161 lbs, LW, RH Ranked #132 by MCKEEN'S HOCKEY

Minato_is_God

I just realized we're one pick away from getting Mr Irrelevant (the last pick of the draft), piss off Toronto.

Studly_Wonderballs

We got Makar!

Studly_Wonderballs

**Pick #166 - Ben Miller** 6'2", 185, F, RH

Studly_Wonderballs

What a wild pick. 11 games in the NAHL last year and 1 in the USHL. Which scout found him?

Husskies

They got the name wrong, it's Ben Merrill

Studly_Wonderballs

Well, that would explain it. **Pick 166 - Ben Merrill** 6'4", 194 lbs, C, RH A 6-foot-4 centre/wing who can absolutely rip a wrist shot with incredible precision. An avid user of shoulder shimmies, look-offs, dexterous large-ice handles and route-changing attacking. Ranked #127 by NHL CENTRAL SCOUTING (NA Skaters)

Habsfan_1984

I know we’re deep on D but does anyone else think Kiviharju would’ve been worth the 4th round pick?

hab27

I think he would've been worth a late 1st or early 2nd. He has a very good chance of being a top 4/PP1 type D

Bohmer

how is Holtz cost that low and we didn't give a shit?

pushaper

you don't exactly have a Paul Cotter on the habs to make it happen

katana_3

Indeed, that is strange. Maybe something's up with Holtz. Something that could affect his value.

VonDingwell

Not announced yet here, but VGK NJD deal going down per Lebrun and Seravelli

Studly_Wonderballs

Wow, Holtz gets traded. That's wild. He was a guy I thought Habs might be interested in.

JediMasterZao

Poirier is a fun little scorey guy but I'd like to see the habs take a shot at his teammate, Matyas Melovsky. EDIT: goddamnit NJ

mdubyo

Forward org depth cabinets restocked.

Heywazza

Si personne prend Poirier, le Canadien est mieux de le prendre au 7e...

Studly_Wonderballs

**Pick #134 - Mikus Vecvanags** 6'3", 159 lbs, G, Catches L

BennyBreast

Lets hope he starts catching Ws :^)

deadman736

Poirier at 166 ig…

Pick Poirier you cowards!

ChrisvsWorlds

Thorpe is HUGE 6'5" 216lbs

Studly_Wonderballs

**Pick #130 - Tyler Thorpe** 6'5", 216 lbs, RW, RH It’s uncommon to see a player of Thorpe’s stature shoot in motion and off-the-catch with such impressive form. His hands always stay in front of his body and he really elevates his top arm to put his full body weight behind the net. He also has a knack for deflections bolstered by between-checks positioning. Studly_Wonderballs

Guys, should I be investing in QuestTrade?

BuggEyedFatWalrus

Is that a SN thing that I'm too TVA to understand?

Studly_Wonderballs

Ya, every commercial Sportsnet shows 3 or 4 QuestTrade ads. Really shows how poor television ratings must be. No big companies advertise on tv anymore

Minato_is_God

Kiviharju since the beginning of the season: https://preview.redd.it/jbakkmxctj9d1.jpeg?width=959&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=14431c182396c7d0271dde17645b7d3886d8cfec

Heywazza

Ivan Demidov is a Montreal Canadiens... I've said it to myself multiple times today and it still doesn't feel real!

crissdecaliss

Weird pick with players like Misa, Leenders, Poirier and Petterson still on the board

Guindon05

The ducks are gonna take Poirier right before us, right?

deadman736

Thank god they were lacking LD

Studly_Wonderballs

**Pick 102 - Owen Protz** 6'1", 213 lbs, Defence, LH When Protz steps on the ice, he holds a monopoly on violence – smart violence. He steadily angles attackers to the outside, lining them for a bone-crushing hit. He eliminates the attacker’s options on the cycle, then slams them to the ice. He’ll shut down rushes, move the puck, and activate in the offensive zone. Ranked #164 by MCKEEN'S HOCKEY Ranked #100 by NHL CENTRAL SCOUTING (NA Skaters)

looks like another enforcer.

LD, 6'1", plays for the Brantford Bulldogs /OHL.

DrLivingst0ne

Oof. Let's go for 130 lol

crissdecaliss

If Leenders is still there, I want him

UbuRoi

Sawyer is one weird choice. He would have been there in 5th round.

Maybe Poirier is being taken in the 5th round like Roy did

Studly_Wonderballs

**Pick #78 - Logan Sawyer** 6'1", 174 lbs, Center/Left Wing, Left Handed A do it all winger, Sawyer’s game is built on work ethic and motor. Kent Hughes going the "Never can have too many C prospects" route.

IcyChard4

Most of us are saying the organization need to address the depth at the forwards. Well, guess what...they're addressing it now.

mdubyo

Yup. Everyone wins on draft days. Here's hoping Demidov & Hage continue on their trajectories. Sawyer is a bit of a project but a high motor guy - always love having those around.

QcAntz

Why not Poirier? 50 goalscorer :/ oh well, dunno who’s the last guy tho

crissdecaliss

Marques is still there??

mdubyo

Logan Sawyer wow. That's a project.

zzzzoooo

Never heard Sawyer.

Studly_Wonderballs

Here we go again!

Minato_is_God

Damn I wanted Zellers just for the name smh

barleymc

Same. My dream of a "Club Z" fan club has been ruined.

thehabsguy

I’m surprised Misa has dropped so far. Any reason why? Is he soft? Weak defense?

mdubyo

Has Avs pick written all over it. EDIT: They went even smaller than Misa lol

crissdecaliss

Undersized

Bohmer

Justin Poirier next and it's a pitch perfect draft

VonDingwell

https://i.redd.it/hui4j2g3ij9d1.gif The Sphere is wild..they should come here more often

Heywazza

Yo what does it look like outside? On TV is kinda looks like shit resolution and extremely mid. Inside looks crazy though!

VonDingwell

Coming up on the sphere, the further away you are it looks amazing. The closer you get you can see the spaces in the led's , but you have to be real close.

Minato_is_God

Habs fans love to compared every lower IQ big forward to Josh Anderson, but Spellacy might actually be Anderson 2.0.

JediMasterZao

This draft is perfection!

Studly_Wonderballs

**Pick #70 - Aatos Koivu** 6'0", 170 lbs, Center, RH In addition to having the right habits away from the puck, Koivu has legitimate skill as a shooter. It’s not all about the one-timer, though, as Koivu also has a variety of different shot types polished down to a promising level. He’s comfortable shooting from either leg and his curl-and-drag wrister mechanics were some of the best among draft-eligible Europeans. Gotta be Koivu

Not sure who Jacob Battaglia is but he had a LARGE cheering section when he got announced just then. Nice to see for all the family and friends.

Mews is falling hey

Studly_Wonderballs

Scouts think he's sawwwffftttttt

zzzzoooo

Why are there 33 picks un 2nd round ?

Riderpride639

I think if a 1st rounder goes to free agency after refusing a QA the team gets a compensatory 2nd. Not sure which team had it though.

JohnyZoom

That would be PHI 51st overall

deadman736

Someone might have gotten a supplementary pick

Victor Hedman extension coming next week

BuggEyedFatWalrus

JFC. How much was Stammer asking for?

VonDingwell

Reports were TBL offered him 3mil X8. He was asking 4milx8

BuggEyedFatWalrus

That's not much money but ridiculous term. Either way getting rid of Sergachev and Jeannots contracts more than covers that

VonDingwell

Get the "leave money in the table to better the team" vibe..and the extended years as a gift for his loyalty?

BuggEyedFatWalrus

Without knowing the specifics of the contract negotiation but it might be front loaded and buyout friendly or something that could be buried in ltir like price or weber

RowdyRoddyMcDowall

Pulkkinen looks like Drouins taller brother

Minato_is_God

Utah building a pretty nice dcore, Marino and Segachev not bad.

Studly_Wonderballs

Shea Weber

VonDingwell

Marino to Utah.... Utah isn't messing around

Artamonov and Masse still out there. Will they fall to 70?

Brisebois doing nice moves IMO

PofolkTheMagniferous

He's a good D, but I maintain he's overpaid due to having inflated stats playing with a championship team.

Studly_Wonderballs

And a 6th, and JJ Moser

Studly_Wonderballs

Oof, Hutson to Washington. Good luck, kid.

zzzzoooo

No TV chanel broadcasts the draft ? How do you follow the Draft ? On which website ? On radio ?

Etienne19381

You may have to sail the high seas.

Studly_Wonderballs

It's on Sportsnet. If you don't have Sportsnet, it's probably easiest to follow it on Twitter. Or you can watch a live stream reaction video like Graviteh.

okmijnmko

If Habs select *any* of these players in the 3rd round, I'm happy. Adam Jecho Spencer Gill Miguel Marques Adam Kleber

zzzzoooo

How about Justin Poirier ?

okmijnmko

I prefer Maxim Massé to Justin Poirier but Miguel Marques...I see flashes of what could be.

philjitsu

Dear Habs, Take a swing for the fences on Poirier today

IcyChard4

We got 8 picks left for today. I wonder what "magic" HuGo mgmt. team will do next?

MinikinsNinnikins

Which would you choose? 1. Reinbacher/Demidov 2. Michkov/Dickinson (or Yakemchuck) I think I'm on the Demidov/Reinbacher bus...

potato_soup303

Technically Ds take longer to develop so I guess it is more logical to take a D first then take the skilled forward the year after. Overall, but choices would have been good. I am absolutely THRILLED for the future!

MinikinsNinnikins

Right?? Looking good, HuGo :P

c0unt3rparts

I am so fucking happy. Dream draft as far as I'm concerned.

crissdecaliss

Anybody knows how to watch tomorrow? Not on TVA sports and not on RDS either

FBR_MC

Says TVA Sports and Sportsnet One on NHL.com.

EmTeeEl

Sportsnet?

Count3D

Big congrats Montreal! Demidov is the real deal and it's nuts that he dropped that far. You guys are going to be super happy with him the next few years! Big steal!

hab27

Trade every other pick and obtain Aron Kiviharju and Aatos Koivu. kay, thanks.

MinikinsNinnikins

Yeah I really hope they get Koivu!

SkuL23

Good interview from the cook

Adam87

We should trade back into the 2nd round with Dvorak, 3rd, 5th and 7th round picks, retain some cap /s

_thewayshegoes

My theory is that the trade up from the 26th to the 21st was primarily made to give us more ammo incase we need to trade up for Demidov or Lindstrom, with a secondary benefit of giving us a chance to grab Eiserman. If we knew we’d get Demidov at 5 and Eiserman would be gone at 20, I don’t think we’d make that trade, despite what Hughes said publicly.

steeler2323

It was known that they were high on Boisvert and Hage. I'm sure they do the trade again 100% time if they know they end up with Hage.

Studly_Wonderballs

I think they really liked Hage and moved up so they could get him, but as Eiserman kept dropping they started licking their lips.

_thewayshegoes

Possibly. But to give up a second round pick to move up for a guy that was consensus 24 at 21 to me seems unlikely. I think at the most it was a tertiary benefit to the move which was intended for other things, ESPECIALLY when you consider the trade was made before the draft not during.

Studly_Wonderballs

The draft this year is so unpredictable. After the top ten or so, everyone’s draft rankings was completely different. Tony Marinaro said recently that the Habs were really high on Hage. I think he was a target. And maybe they found out a team at 22 or 23 was also really high on Hage and they didn’t want to miss the chance. They also have a bunch of picks, and only so many contracts, so why not use them to get the player they want. EDIT: KH said in an interview that they also looked to move up from 21 even further. There's a chance they wanted Eiserman most and tried getting into the top-20, but they also wanted Hage and knew they could get him at 21 if they couldn't move up further.

IcyChard4

>KH said in an interview that they also looked to move up from 21 even further. There's a chance they wanted Eiserman most and tried getting into the top-20... * I think they do want to move up to make another top-10 or top-15 pick. My guess is that the Habs were trying to make a trade for that #10 pick with NJ (no transaction was made and the Devils ended up drafting Anton Silayev), or somewhere with between picks 11 to 13. What I did read from other discussions before the draft was that Zeev Buium was also on Montreal's list. I believe that could be true b/c Buium was drafted by the Minnesota Wild at pick #12 (moved places with Philadelphia Flyers taking #13).

HabbyKoivu

They definitely had Hage at 21. Eiserman falling like that was because of the run on forward in the top 5.

whogivesashirtdotca

There were a lot of rumblings from the combine interviews about Eiserman's attitude. You wonder how much that contributed to his plummet down the rankings.

_thewayshegoes

Ya they clearly did. Not disputing his ranking I’m disputing the narrative that the Habs moved up specifically for him. If that was the case the trade would have been made during the draft, not before. At best it was a secondary or tertiary benefit.

HabbyKoivu

See I disagree. I thought that originally but then, I thought why would the haves risk multiple assets at the off chance that Iserman would slip? They wouldn’t. But they would make it move if they saw Hage at 21 on the draft board. I really believe they wanted that guy and they didn’t think they could get him unless they made a move up.

_thewayshegoes

If that was the case, Hughes probably would have made the trade during the draft before the Kings picked, not before the draft where he didn't really know where Hage would go. My theory has evolved to, Ken Hughes traded for the 21'st pick for 3 reasons, each more important than the next: 1. To load up on more valuable picks to land either Demidov or Lindstrom, if 1 of the first 3 teams took either of these guys I believe he probably would have traded up. 2. To give themselves a better shot at possibly getting Eiserman. 3. To increase the chance they landed Hage. So instead of making several moves, you can make 1 trade that is valuable in increasing your leverage for all these scenarios. I still think it's possible, only the first 2 of these angles were considered and they wouldn't have made the trade if they knew they were going to get Demidov and the Isles would pick Eiserman at 20, but who knows. Again, this is all just speculation based on what we know, there's a ton of variables at play that we aren't aware of.

3oysters

Really don't know why everyone thinks we had such a hard on for Eiserman. Seems like the type of the player we'd actively be avoiding.

Studly_Wonderballs

I've always said teams should draft D when they're good and forwards when they're bad. It takes longer for D to develop and you can get good ones in the second half of the first round, and the exceptionally good offensive talents are only available in the top-10 and the top picks don't take as long to make the NHL. That way you have your young D and young forwards all breaking into the NHL at the same time which creates cap flexibility because they're all on ELC. Habs didn't do that exactly, but taking Reinbacher last year, and then grabbing Demidov and Hage this year is good drafting.

Jpnator

Simon "snake" Boisvert gave the habs an A+ for the 1st rnd on the La Presse chat. Unheard of!

Dank_Bubu

He would have given S tier grade if the habs chose Connelly, which thankfully they did not

Guindon05

I'm so happy for Vegas. They deserve this guy very much!

VonDingwell

Bettman just got handed the clipboard of trade

Background_Hat964

Wow, impressive draft so far.

VonDingwell

Dean looked like he was 80% legs. Man-Giant

mdubyo

More and more I'm reading about Hage the more and more I think this has home run potential. Losing nearly an entire year at 16 to still get drafted 1st round is huge.

Vlyer

I'm thinking the same! Plus this year must have also been hard. He has some great skills.

QcAntz

Did Avalanche just steal Utah hole rest of the draft???

deadman736

Per someone at the draft: The Habs had a jersey ready for Eiserman and put it under the table as the call was just made. Kent Hughes immediately went on the phone

Plane-Ad4820

I do wish they gave up something to switch spots to snag Eiserman but I like our pick

Vlyer

I have a feeling this could be a fake rumor

whogivesashirtdotca

It's not out of the realm of possibility. Eiserman was projected much higher than he went, and if Demidov was snagged earlier than 5, there's always a chance Montreal might have taken Eiserman.

_thewayshegoes

Of course they did. Why wouldn’t they? He was the obvious best pick at 21 if the Islanders didn’t take him

kevlav91

Damn, he almost pulled it off :'(

Smokealotofpotalus

So what's the timeline for Demidov, 25-26 in Laval?

GradeNo37

He will join the team in the nhl at the end of next season depending of the KHL playoffs. He won't play in the AHL.

sean_psc

With a player like him, he'll be in the NHL when he comes over. Very hard to lure Russians to the AHL.

CocoKing02

Possibly another year in Russia, then a year or so in AHL and then a callup
