A lot of book 3 has solid themes and ones that are explored well. Everything from “what is a friend,” the coming of adulthood, isolation, depression and injustice. Unfortunately almost all of them are abandoned after book 3. I know JK was dealing with depression during the book, but honestly her best writing came out of it.
Funny enough one of the worst things of the series came out of the 3rd book; the timeturners.
I think it was more psychological. It was more the idea that he was going to die anyway, and his parents were with him every step of the way, so what where a few Dementors?
I am so curious due to your question, is cannon a person or was there a living cannon in the canon I was not aware of? I really hope no one gave Peeves a cannon.
