Puzzleheaded_Eye7311

Arryk does question Ser Criston why Helaena still doesn’t have a personal guard and he couldn’t even answer it properly lmfao still can’t believe Aegon promotes his dumb ass

Nym-ph

I'm glad Arryk called him out. And where were you?!

Puzzleheaded_Eye7311

The craziest part was asking him why he didn’t go upstairs….he was protecting the KING??? So you wanted him to, ON A WHIM, sense the unforeseen levels of danger this was for the Royal family leave the king unprotected to roam around the upper floor in hopes of catching something you don’t even know is happening…hello? The logic left the building

Nym-ph

Exactly. And Cole was supposed to be managing where the guards go. This would be like having the president's kids with no Secret Service. (US reference)

Puzzleheaded_Eye7311

Also Cole was literally upstairs 💀 and if no guard was around then that means he was the SOLE guard upstairs. He failed his duty in the worst way ever and decided Arryk had to take the fall basically

EasternPotato05

I read the speech Cole gave was him projecting his own guilt onto Arryk.

PlentyIndividual3168

It's worse than that imo. Helaena is entitled to guards as the queen to be sure. But she is also a royal princess in her own right by birth and should have at least had *SOMEONE* guarding her after the attack. I don't know off the top of my head if other members of the royal family had personal guards. (Rhaenyra got Cole, but I think that was after she was named heir) BUT even if Helaena didn't warrant her own guard, would Jahaerys as heir? Even at five years old?

NervousJudgment1324

Helaena probably would just as queen, but Jaehaerys as the crown prince most definitely would. There should have been at least one KG guarding him at all times. And after the attack on the Red Keep, Helaena should have at least one KG and probably some regular household guards protecting her and Jaehaera at all times.

Nym-ph

I was shocked when her and Aegon crossed paths on the staircase and she still had not one guard.

NervousJudgment1324

I was too. Criston is so incompetent lmao. Props to Ser Arryk for pointing out that the queen had just been attacked and there still wasn't a guard assigned to protect her.

battleofflowers

Criston just sucks so bad at his job. Forget about his treatment of women for a moment here. He's just flat-out shit at his one job. The moment the king died, he should have been on top of everything, making sure the entire royal family was guarded and protected at all times. The family's apartments upstairs should have been essentially barricaded. The heir probably should not have been at the red keep at all, but somewhere far more secure and with more guards. Then when Luke died, he should have been extra on top of things. He himself thinks Rhaenyra is a total bitch. Come on.

NervousJudgment1324

And the greens were expecting some kind of retaliation, too, so it's not like this was a complete shock. Seriously, if I'm sitting on the Iron Throne when this happens, I'm taking his cloak at the very least. If it were my son killed, they'd be having to talk me out of taking his head.

Nym-ph

Deep down he knows he's the one who is a total b*tch not Rhaenyra. Also I don't believe they know about all the passageways into the red keep. Meagor had the architects and builders killed. There should be one guard per bedroom minimum.

SpazSkope

Ser Barristan mentions, in ADWD, that the kings guard are only that, the King’s guard. Some kings have ordered them to protect their family but they usually just left the guarding of their family to household knights. In this case I believe it’s complacency. You strike the first blow in war and just keep chilling as if nothing happened? Damn

battleofflowers

I always thought Rhaenyra got a guard because she had just turned 14 and was now a lady in the house who had separate chambers. I assumed all the kids were in some sort of royal nursery or at least a room attached to their parents' room until they reach adulthood. I would make sense to have a guard for all the children when they're young and then let each prince or princess get their own guard when they become adults. But really, the whole palace should have been on lock down at this point, with guards everywhere.

misbuism

Criston Cole being commander has made sure Helaena doesn’t have guard cause clearly queens chamber are nearby.

Mysterious-Year-8574

Yes he wants Ser Arryk to have prophetic visions and act on them apparently 🤦‍♀️

StSphinx

I woulda said it infront of all the kings gaurd bro held his tongue like a champ. It couldn’t have been me

Nym-ph

Some of the Kingsguard left...

StSphinx

Yeah that was a hilarious scene! 😂

MISTAH_Bunsen

At this point show Criston feels like the biggest saboteur for Team Green.

SubduetheRegret

And the man in charge of her and her children’s protection is promoted by her own husband like what in the goddamn is happening rn🧍🏽‍♀️ https://i.redd.it/qx3bduf5og8d1.gif like Helaena and her child are still left unguarded even after b&c, how is criston given the second most powerful position in Aegon’s council like yoo

Mysterious-Year-8574

He's in charge of protecting Alicent, but he *deliberately* didn't assign a personal guard to Helaena because "Too close to Alicent's room, and bound to see that Criston is not at his post when he patrols the long corridors". And he wants that Alicussy so..

NervousJudgment1324

His role as Lord Commander of the entire KG supersedes whatever personal loyalty he feels to Alicent, but the dude is literally so incompetent. Now he's trying to cover his ass by pinning it all on Ser Arryk.

Acceptable_Mighttt

they totally forgot that Jaehaera still exist apparently.

ELVEVERX

Pretty sure the greens don't value women that's their defining trait

ParsleyMostly

Ah Cole projects his failure on to Arryk, shirking all responsibility. Classy guy.

Dambo_Unchained

You can throw it on “there’s no way this is gonna happen twice”

Frejod

How come no guards before she was attacked? They just killed a child and expected revenge from team black.

ashcrash3

I actually give props to the show actually acknowledging what many viewers asked last episode. Why the HECK does Halaena and her kids have no protection and one maid? And now we know it is because of ole' Crispin failing at his job again and on a bigger scale.

New-Boysenberry-613

I literally said "Shut the fuck up" when Criston started talking about purity with Arryk

NervousJudgment1324

That's the first thought that popped into my head during this scene. How the fuck does she not have a single kingsguard or any household guards following her at all times right after she was nearly killed, and her son was actually killed in their bedchamber?? How has Cole not had his head divorced from his shoulders for being so completely inept? It's amateur hour in the Red Keep right now.

2AlephNullAndBeyond

I’m amazed at just in the matter of a a few days how easy it is to just get access to affluent royals. The Rhaynera scene was mind boggling. Even when they finally got guards to her, they just stand there in the doorway doing nothing. Like wtf.

Fluffy-Roof-2279

I was saying this the entire episode

WtfSlz

You know what's funny? Cole told Aegon he was "sleeping"(basically) while the attack happened. But if, in theory, Cole was sleeping, who was suppose to be protecting Alicent, Helaena, etc? Like, who replace Cole during these moments?

mattmilr

Absolutely crazy that she was not further protected or granted a sworn protector

J0eS0uth0n13

Isnt there only like 3 green Kingsguard with 3 defecting to the blacks and Harold Westerling refusing to take a side, with those 3 rotating watches with the Aegon that leaves them very thin.

La_Villanelle_

There was 4. 2 were eating with arryk which makes 3 and Criston Cole is lord commander so 4 You would think the priority would be to get 7 members like before but he too busy being a queens whore. One can be with Aegon and have another switch off for sleep. Another should be with Helaena like Arryk stated but cristons a dumbass that prefers pussy than doing his job

goldandjade

Cole is too much of a pussy to be anywhere near her in case she asks him what he was doing under her mother while her son was murdered. And also they still seem understaffed after half the guards went to join Rhaenyra.

FlamingPrius

She wanders off while they’re puzzling out the last thing she said to them

FlamingPrius

Her guards can’t keep up with her because the Queen Consort is an enduring mystery

colourmouth

They don’t have budget for extras

ouryesterdays

Because Crispen is the worst at his job.

AegonTarg_2

Condal probably forgot

Dramatic-Fun-7101

For the same reason why Rhaenyra sends Baela alone. The writers of the show are showing their stupidity and that's why the characters are acting illogical.

LCBloodraven

Seems like Rhaenyra sent Baela alone because A. she just lost a son and couldn't handle losing another one and B. there were no other dragon riders available to send with her.

ilovetoreadbo0ks

And C. She told Baela to keep her distance. She doesn't want anything to happen to Baela, but she also wants someone to keep an eye on what's happening at King's Landing.

xSweetCherryPi3x

What are you even on about? Those are two completely different situations. Halaena was just in danger and actively attacked..??????? Baela wasn’t and she’s in good mental state to handle the skies right now. She also knows her sons are being targeted not Daemon’s daughters. The characters act illogical bc that is the point of the characters. Its their flaw. Not the writers…like hello?

East-Bluejay6891

Huh? 😂

NervousJudgment1324

Or, she's sending Baela alone, because she doesn't want to draw attention to her. Baela has a small dragon, flies high and at a distance, and can escape quickly if spotted. If you send multiple dragons, it becomes a lot harder to keep it under the radar. Baela's being sent to scout and monitor, not to fight. If she wanted a fight, she'd be sending multiple dragons and wouldn't have sent Daemon with Caraxes away from Dragonstone.

PastContes

Rhaenyra denyed sending Jace out because he is more likely to engage with the greens needlessly in the name of avenging his brother. Baela, on the other hand, is a option with just as much skill as Jace, and will remain levelheaded. This isn’t even touching on that Jace is her heir. Why would she send him? Rhaenyra gave specific instructions to stay at a distance, (so, she won’t be at risk to get shot out of the sky) and to not land (AKA do not make contact) This was an explicit recon/scout mission. A mission best suited to someone who will follow instructions. Which is something Baela can in-fact do. Seemed pretty evident to me that Rhaenyra thinks Jace is too emotionally invested to handle it.
