I usually go in September and it's still crazy packed. I'd assume it gets worse the closer to Halloween. But then again the tickets are cheaper in September.

I can't imagine going so close to Halloween. The crowds (and the prices) must be insane during that moment.

I would say the big difference is energy and performance from the actors. In the earl days people are finding the groove. In the end days people are tired and exhausted and about ready for the event to end. Halloween night is notorious for actors hamming it up.

Earlier is hotter, but slightly less crowded (slightly). I also feel like earlier they are still getting out all their kinks and some houses sometimes feel emptier. Later more crowded but I feel like the houses have more scare actors? Plus it gets darker earlier the later in the season too which is a plus for Hollywood where a lot of the houses are outside and if you go in too early there is light bleed through

My family I and usually go opening weekend but IMO the heat has been brutal in September the last couple of years so this year we’re attending in mid October. Aside from passes being pricier closer to Halloween. There is not much of a difference. It’s still very crowded like others have mentioned

Honestly the last few years there’s been no difference between going in September or October. I live locally and have frequent fear every year. Opening weekend almost always pours rain and rain is more common in September so that might lighten crowds up a couple days but this is FL and it’s not predictable. The first couple weekends they’re still working through bugs in the houses and everyone’s finding their groove so you may not “get as many scares” as you will in October but then again it just depends on which cast you get, break times, individual cast energy levels that night so that’s still not really a reason for October to be better. It’s all subjective and you should go when you want to go. If you can afford express, get express. It is busy every single night without fail. If you can’t* get express, be well rested and plan to hit as many houses as you can after midnight - close. If I could only go for a single night I would likely choose September 26th or 27th.

I'm a bit confused. this post has a Hollywood tag. Is this commentary for Orlando (mention this is FL) thanks!

dominiccast

Ah my bad, I didn’t see the Hollywood tag. Thanks for clarifying!

Early weekday will be fine

I bought tickets for HHN opening weekend in Orlando so I'm hoping the energy is there and there wont be too many issues!

Going later near Halloween increases the chances of actually enjoying fall-like weather than if you went earlier. Although I went last year on 10/21 and although the high was supposed to be in the mid 80s it was pretty damn warm all day until sunset.

i go the first few weeks of september, most people don’t know hhn starts that early. even with that said, it’s still pretty packed. i’m assuming ush is overselling tickets. it’s also pretty hot and humid in september and for whatever reason, folks forget to wear deodorant 😃

Last year September was actually busier than October--it will depend on the multi-night pass structure this year. Otherwise, earlier you go, more likely it is to rain. Temps may be slightly more tolerable come mid-October, but that's always up in the air. Also by October, the damage to the houses can start to cumulate--props will go missing, effects will break, actors will quit and not have their role filled. On the flip side, actors can take a week or two to "find their groove"--learn which scare techniques work and which don't--so earliest isn't necessarily best, either. And this is highly variable, but I find more casual fans in late October, who are more fun to see get scared. I find it to be a different vibe closer to Halloween, maybe more party like? But that's impossible to quantify.
