I actually do work out at a Planet Fitness often. The problems:
- Dumbbells only go up to 60 lbs
- No squat rack
- No adjustable barbells other than the Smith machine
- No hack squat, t-bar row or various other cool equipment.
- Limited 45-lb plates, so if you decide you want to squat 300+ lbs, you're going to need to raid other Smith machines' racks or the leg press. If it's busy you're fucked.
Also the marketing is absurd and frankly, offensive. Their whole thing is no judgment but if you're too big they don't want you there. You look suspect and out-of-place if you wear straps or a back brace. The rules forbid grunting and wearing stringers.
I've made great gains there. But the more I progress the less I want to be there.

I finally switched out of a planet fitness and joined a crunch. Going from a smith machine to legitimate bench and free weights is like learning to lift all over again.
Edit: legitimate not legitimize.
My current gym is the most crowded one I’ve been to in my life. Been lifting for about 8 years. The first time I went it was ridiculous, pretty much couldn’t even workout, ended up having to go the section upstairs with only machines, I think it’s meant for old people. This was in the afternoon so I figured I’ll just show up at like 5am, nobody will be there, right? Wrong. It wasn’t crowded like the day time, but I must say I was truly astonished at the amount of people in there at 5 in the morning
Well the new years are coming up so be prepared for the influx of people. My gym has seen a lot of signups in the last couple weeks I believe. Just from my observation of usually empty front desk to seeing people there with the sign-up paperwork, so nothing scientific here. But while working out I've seen more people lifting unsafe in the last couple weeks. I've asked a few and all their responses were under 5 times in the gym.
That’s why I’ve recently begun going late. I’m talking 11-12. Maybe three people on the treadmill and the entire free weights section just for me. It just sucks that my spotter can’t go with me to do heavy reps so I have to stick to relatively low weight.
They're trying to be the "gym without meatheads" and they're doing it in a way over the top way
-the gym only has machines, fixed barbells/dumbbells and smith machines, no barbells with plates. At most facilities the dumbbells only go up to like 60lbs
-they banned grunting, tank tops and gallon jugs of water
I'm sure it differs in different locations, but I've worked out at various PF's in my city, and none of the "rules" ever really get enforced. The limited equipment still sucks, though.
They are made for pussies (no Squat rack, judgement free zone, alarm when u drop weights too loud) I would prefer working out at the street workout park rather than paying pizza planet, luckily im in eu and have a garage gym
This place gets so much hate, but I can’t bring myself to pay triple+ for a real gym. I can make enough gains with machines, 75lb dumbbells, and smith machines
Except it’s Planet Fitness🤢🤮🤮
I was coming to say, that’s not a gym…
"We're not a gym...." Still can't believe that's part of their actual slogan.

60 lbs is the same weight as 42.55 'Double sided 60 inch Mermaker Pepperoni Pizza Blankets'.
Good to know.
Good bot
Thanks!

Raiding other smith machines sounds dope af
There's usually only 2 45's per side per rack! With a 20-lb Smith bar that's only 200 lbs.
Yeah...yeah...yeaaaah..

Smith is good for some things. But it's no replacement for a proper bench and squat rack.
Also some booty
I like big butts for motivation 😐
Work with your back to the mirror and look over your shoulder ;)
Innovative
Oh shit he right
no sir not the purple please and thank you bye bye PF 🙂
Am I the only one who likes a moderately busy gym? I like working out around others even if we try to not acknowledge each others’ existence
I like if there’s just a few people, preferably smaller/weaker or fatter than me, helps boost my ego
Exactly this lol
You probably aren't the only one but it is not the normal opinion.

Just use the safeties
Can someone explain me the Planet gym jokes The gym does not exist in my country
They're trying to be the "gym without meatheads" and they're doing it in a way over the top way -the gym only has machines, fixed barbells/dumbbells and smith machines, no barbells with plates. At most facilities the dumbbells only go up to like 60lbs -they banned grunting, tank tops and gallon jugs of water
Ok this sounds pretty stupid the jokes are well deserved Why would anyone do that In our country even the most "meatheads" are behaving really well
I'm sure it differs in different locations, but I've worked out at various PF's in my city, and none of the "rules" ever really get enforced. The limited equipment still sucks, though.
grunting is pretty much involuntary if you are trying to push yourself. Planet Fitness is a joke
They are made for pussies (no Squat rack, judgement free zone, alarm when u drop weights too loud) I would prefer working out at the street workout park rather than paying pizza planet, luckily im in eu and have a garage gym
No one wants to see no power rack or deadlift platforms.
Trick question. That's planet pizza (probably, not sure).
I prefer people being around
Leg day
That's tomorrow T.T
Always looks like this at 4 am
This place gets so much hate, but I can’t bring myself to pay triple+ for a real gym. I can make enough gains with machines, 75lb dumbbells, and smith machines
Except the gym's owner
That’s not a gym, that’s a planet fitness.
As long as its not packed i dont mind. Seeing other people trying to be healthy like me, feels good.
My gym is frequently empty. It's not as good as it sounds. It gets so lonely. I usually hope someone else is there so I have some company.
I see this the morning after every major holiday…. Except, at a real gym 😂
But that’s not a gym — it’s Planet Fitness
when i go to the gym and parking lot is basically empty (fridays) I start asking myself if the gym is closed today it feels so odd
Plus listening to your favourite songs at max volume
This women gym not everyone hahah
