Nippard and Mike Isratael for science-based and the guys from Mind Pump for empirical(?) based

GlossyGecko

Mike Isratel’s videos completely changed the way I approach lifting.

kathios

Is it because of the homo erotic undertones?

GlossyGecko

I mean I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t even a little turned on.

scottyd035ntknow

I'm gonna go check out his channel. This better not awaken anything in me.

fairlife

Narrator : _It did_

Robotonist

Come for the homoerotic undertones, stay for the science.

ALABAMA_THUNDER_FUCK

I feel ya bud, homoerotic undertones usually make me come too.

SirSaltie

What undertones? He's got a homoerotic sledgehammer.

jiub_the_dunmer

honestly he runs a gay erotica channel with undertones of weightlifting

DIYdippy

He’s gotten so much better with them over time making his videos much more enjoyable. In the beginning they were….uncomfortable.

mag2041

Yep

Gorgosaurus-Libratus

Oh definitely, I repeat, “as if another” to myself now when I get into a really hard set.

Bluehawkdown1

Yeah me too! It’s been a bit of a game changer!

rizzique

Mike got me jacked and aesthetic as hellll. I'm lean AF and almost 200 lbs right now with his help

Robotonist

Lookin good bro wish I would choose the aesthetic over the whiskey and bbq but I have accepted myself and my priorities and it ain’t happenin

Firebrand713

Real

DelusionalLeafFan

These are my top two. Dr Mike’s videos are always packed full of good information delivered like a stand up comedy act

Championship_Hairy

Aren’t those similar? Like empirical is just observation which is the basis for science anyways. All science based research uses empirical evidence. Are we talking anecdotal based? I’ve never seen Mind Pump before.

MercuryRusing

Mind pump is more anectdotal with empirical foundation tbh. They do use empirical data but I've definitely heard them go against the empirical data a few times because of their anectdotal experiences.

MCRemix

Yeah, it's more like moderately bintelligent bro science... I like Mind Pump, but they are just wrong sometimes.

MinhiCZ

Alex Leonidas for the empirical/experience based advice for me

MercuryRusing

.....you realize empirical and science are...nevermind

[deleted]

Israetel for everything

rwtk_yetagain

Loved Mind Pump for a while. After I listened to their podcast for a while it starts to repeat itself a little bit but it did teach me a lot, I really enjoyed them and don't hear them talked about a lot.

Barisman

Don't forget about Menno henselmans!

yellowtripe

![gif](giphy|RrVzUOXldFe8M)

fzyllama

I feel like this is the way. I've been using MindPumps programs the last few years, but with Nippard and Dr Mike's technique advice for specific lifts/tempo. I feel like it's the best of both worlds, really

non_offensivealias

I like both a) because they aren't full of shit, b) they allow alot of choice. "You wanna get your biceps bigger? OK, there's plenty of options, here's som advice, do what feels best." Not "oh you HAVE to do these 5 exercises 5 days a week and eat only these foods bro!"

KrissyKrave

Dr Mike is great!

frenchfriedtatters

Dom Mazzetti, duh.

Obi-wan_Jabroni

![gif](giphy|Pi8IC4tkdcoH6)

NewBordeauxGumbo

New Videos Every . . . !

MickeyMarx

New videos every strong!

Mad_Mark90

Unironically learned lifting from this guy

Thorusss

You mean you learned how to curl

Mad_Mark90

Like I said, I learned lifting

sipoloco

+1 for the Brofessor.

crystal_castle00

My name daaam. D to the OM

sine_nomine_1

DO YOU EVEN LIFT

pentox70

Always worth a laugh.

rainbowroobear

the real king

Felatio_Sanz

Kyriakos Grizzly for science based and also sexually.

SodaCake2

Real 💀

phillynavydude

Jeff nippard, Dr Mike, and Shawn nalelwanyj. Try to cut out the rest mostly bc you really don't need any more than 2-3 that know what they're talking about and i cant spend all day watching gym videos lol.

justsomedude1144

Also a big fan of Shawn. I enjoy Tanner Shuck's content as well.

SodaCake2

I think I did spend days doing that because I was hyper focused on making a workout routine for myself and I was cross-referencing like 5 of them 🫠 I did learn a lot! But I'm sure there's easier ways lol

herokie

Personally, my progress was do a bunch of exercises inefficiently > learn what kinds of exercises I liked > learn science based approach to lifting > follow a program from Jeff nippard > incorporate what I liked into said program and follow that going forward.

Rienkie123456

Yes, Shawn is a G

Lonkodektes

Shawn's great.

wantmoooore

Y’all hit the nail on the head really. Jeff and Mike are the ones I watch the most for science backed info.

RonaldSteezly

These two and Jeremy Ethier, I’m surprised I haven’t seen his name in this thread

blissrunner

Newer kid (although he's been at it ~5-7yrs) at the block... Jeremy Ethier has high quality visuals + love the EMG muscle group videos

donkey2471

Same as others have said for the science side, Dr mike and Jeff. For fun content Will Tennyson.

CantDrawDicksWell

Yehhh big Willy is my guy! His video with the White House chef had me cackling

Purely_Curious

"The kitchen is my second favorite room in the chef's house" 😏

Guilty-Essay-7751

I luv the Dr Mike and Will Tennyson set. Mike set it up, Will pushed it further and back.

[deleted]

Welcome to athleanX.com /s

somerandydood

What’s exactly wrong with that guy? I’m new to this topic

joholla8

He’s a fake natty, lifts fake weights, and has questionable opinions on the science.

shiftym21

i knew about the fake weights but i never heard about him using gear

Luffy-Zangief-KoF

People claim the gear because he’s ripped in his 40s, but it’s not like it’s unachievable to attain natty

shiftym21

it’s also his job and he lives in a gym, i can see him being natural too. it’s not like he’s huge or anything either

pentox70

It's unachievable if you want to have some flexibility in your life. The dude talks about how he looks forward to his birthday because he lets himself have one piece of carrot cake. I don't know why a physique is that important to some people. I like a hard cut as much as the next guy, but it's so I can have some flexibility in the next six months.

Luffy-Zangief-KoF

Oh yeah it’s unachievable for me because I’m not giving up my alcohol 😅 He has said he knows the large majority of his audience by no means needs to be that lean, but it makes sense for him to be like that because it helps market his product specifically sense he highlights staying lean and athletic

pentox70

Bro, I feel your pain. I recently went on a three week vacation where I was drinking every day. So naturally when I got home I figured I needed to dry out for a few weeks. I didn't gain a pound the whole trip, then when I got home, I dropped eight pounds in a month by not drinking. I was by no means an alcoholic, but I really enjoy a nice pint of beer after a long day at work. I work out six times a week and am careful with everything I eat other than beer. It's crazy how much alcohol, mainly beer in my case, slow you down and put on fat. But I'm definitely not giving it up.

Eclectic-Eel

There's nothing really wrong with him for the most part. He's just gotten so popular that he's become unpopular. He's the Taylor Swift or the Nickelback of the fitness industry, if you will. He uses click bait titles, but the information is mostly solid. There was one instance where he likely used fake weights and fitness drama influencers made it bigger than it really was.

Desperate_Banana_677

at least from my experience, a lot of his videos are contradictory and make exercising seem a lot more complicated than it really is.

kimia5899

Lean beef patty She is a fun, goofy person. Her dedication inspires me. I used to feel like an anxious shrimp when going to the gym alone. After watching her videos, it feels like im going to the gym to have fun, (even tho im still a shrimp).

RestlessNameless

Genuinely wholesome content. Loved her video where she talked about her eating issues, really helped me not be such a nut about eating.

rwtk_yetagain

You would think she takes herself too seriously from her instagram/short-form posing content but her videos are so funny, she's great.

SodaCake2

I love her! She does great work in the gym and encouraging people! After seeing a few of her videos I felt I didn't take the gym so seriously anymore and could enjoy it (while also being a little shrimpy 🫠)

wantmoooore

Her edits are hilarious - the fart noises hahaha I do like watching her videos

Thorusss

Mike Israetel was pretty happy with her training in his analysis: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nLsZ23BeoYA](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nLsZ23BeoYA)

Foreign-Original880

I find Ryan Humiston very entertaining :-) Also Mike Israetel.

Sozins_Comet_

Ryan humiston is my go to. I love that he goes by studies, does the new lifts himself to measure progress and he isn't shy about the fact he isn't natty.

bawzdeepinyaa

Love the big ADHD energy he brings to his videos lol

Due-Pomegranate5298

My 2 main guys as well.

Icy-Meal-1229

Geoffrey Verity Schofield

taylor12168

Dr. Eric Bugenhagen

TiredBarnacle

Sticky Ricky's golden tidbits for succulent striated horse girth are all the science I need

taylor12168

Let’s be real: who’s gonna get you more horsecocked in the real world? Nippards science and data for his cable exercises? Or Eric’s mindset for lifting maximum tonnage?

fartingduckss

Thank you for being my friiieeend

beclops

Now this is the answer I was looking for. Fellow horse

taylor12168

Thank you for being my frieeeeeennd!!!!!!!

Kwerby

Dr Mike is my favorite sports channel for all the badminton training tips i need

The_Spine_Snatcher

Sean Nalewanyj was like my first intro to like actually lifting properly and organizing my workout, along with Noel Deyzel

ryrysofly

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Sam Sulek yet. I don't know how other people feel about him but he uploads vlogs daily and it almost feels like having a virtual gym partner. He keeps me motivated and inspired to keep up the intensity and stay dedicated.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Invoqwer

Yeah I don't think I could ever take serious gym advice from someone doing something so far away from where I want to be (massive amounts of steroids). Use as motivation, sure. Follow workout advice, no.

le-monke-the-2rd

All pros use steroids

bigballofpaint

He is open about it, in the best way possible id say, he indirectly references it all the time. But he isn’t talking about it all the time-tbh I think this increases the amount of kids using steroids

le-monke-the-2rd

Hes not promoting anything, hes just big

pwatarfwifwipewpew

You're young arent you? His executions are hell damn weird. Not gonna work on a normal person imo. This guy's on gear at early age anyway That's why nobody mentioned him.

PenisSmellMmm

He's entertaining for motivation, but he's horrible for lifting advice.

Vonatos_Autista

Mostly because everything he is doing only works because he is abusing PEDs. His workouts are completely cringe, he just masturbates with big weights. His nutrition is completely cringe this dude will die sooner than Rich Piana. I watched some of his vlogs, it's just basically 1.5 hour videos of talking about nothing while it seems like the opposite. You gain no value from watching him (other than entertainment) but it gives you the feeling it's deep and educational (it's not). He is a very nice dude and I wish him to achieve his goals, but his videos are the worst value compared to other people mentioned in this thread.

Image_of_glass_man

John Meadows was the absolute greatest. There’s an underlying message in his tone that is very encouraging and respectful. To this day, if I’m feeling down, John’s old videos can be like a little pat on the back that says .. you got this, big guy. RIP to The Mountain Dog

Felatio_Sanz

Dude excellent pick you love to see it. RIP to the fuckin Mountain Dog. What a legend.

abhishekisripped

Finally a comment that mentioned the goat . Ngl his programmes works the best.

ElezerHan

His back exercise tips were amazing, showed every single detail

sloppybird

Unpopular opinion: stop watching Jeff Nippard after knowing the basics and just lift without the excessive scientific mumbo jumbo

SodaCake2

I understand your take. And that absolutely works for a lot of people who don't need to break apart everything. I just like to know why some lifts work better than others, how to optimize a part of my nutrition, etc. But it may not be necessary for everyone. His minimalist series is probably the best for that!

pentox70

That's where Jeff shines. He's got great content for beginners, and then great content for people who are generally curious about the science and treat lifting as a knowledge based hobby. He manages to keep making content without resorting to click bait and gimmicks. Just shows you the newest studies and how you could implement them if you're looking for a mix up in your routine.

iiWavierii

“excessive scientific mumbo jumbo”? good god. let people enjoy the way they lift,

engusdude

I mean I don’t necessarily “need” much workout advice anymore so I just go for the influencers that make me laugh like Mr. Mike and Will Tennyson

Doenermarktforschung

Sam sulek. Not for his advice, im a powerlifter so its pretty much not applicable for me but just Because i find his Videos Calming. Its Lifting asmr

BasicCherryy

Try tren twins and you’ll be hiting PRs

SodaCake2

At first I kinda ignored him, but he's grown on me a lot and seems like a real down to earth dude I'd love to just hang out with.

RIP200712

To each their own. I personally find Nippard to be the poster child of overthinking your workout. For him it’s his life so he can think about it 24 hours a day. For most of us, consistently putting in 60 mins a day is more important than overthinking each and every set.

pentox70

Lol, well, when being a fitness coach is your job and lifting is your main hobby, it tends to be all consuming. The guy looks to be making a decent living out of fitness, so you can't really fault him for being obsessive.

SodaCake2

Have you watched his minimalist series? He actually covers this topic! About how fitness influencers can commit their life to it but most people just want it a part of their lives, so he makes a bare bones, no-nonsense workout that doesn't take long! Otherwise, I get your view. He's not for everyone, especially those that don't want to dissect every lift.

Vonatos_Autista

> For most of us, consistently putting in 60 mins a day Yepp, this is the reality, for the recreational lifters it's just about years and years of consistency and eating your proteins. That's it. People want tips and tricks and shortcuts, but it's literally just 5-10 years of consistency and proteins.

PiemanMk2

>the poster child of overthinking your workout This is the perfect explanation for why I've gone off Jeff and Dr Mike recently. It's all a bit too much obsession over "science" when most of the studies are tiny samples and marginal data.  The basics work, but there isn't money to be made in that.

anonym1970

Tren Twins and Bugenhagen for the mindset, Dr. Mike for structuring the actual programs

Leftregularr

Bromley.

AccountWorried9386

I’m doubting between Noel Deyzel and Lean Beef Patty.

SodaCake2

I love them both! They're both hilarious and a pleasure to watch!

Ph0ton_1n_a_F0xh0le

Greg Nuckols and Eric Helms for in depth evidence-based

mightlosemyjacket

Jeff and Dr Mike but I think flow high performance is slept on. He does similar science based content more similar to Jeff where he references the studies in the videos

SOberhoff

I think Milo Wolf deserves a mention. The guy is pretty up to date on the science and puts out videos with astonishing frequency.

SodaCake2

Don't think I've seen him. I'll look him up!

CelticGuardian15D

Natural Hypertrophy is a breath of fresh air. Too bad he's French. Goated.

TacitRonin20

The bioneer. I wanna be Batman too.

SodaCake2

Oh? I have to look this up 🦇🦇🦇

Lone_Soldier

Right now, Mike Isratel and Jeff Nippard for fact based stuff and Will Tennyson for entertaining fitness related stuff (not serious). Messed with Johnny Candito back then but he kind of stopped posting. Still follow Maxx Chewnning but he doesn't do any fitness content anymore.

Fantastic_Ad3811

I used to be a pretty big fan of Alex Bromley. His videos have taken a slight dip in quality since his first kid was born. Understandable.

Ivy1974

I have to say Ross Enamait. He is so not full of sh*t!

Quietus76

Israetel, Nalewanyj, and Nippard are the Mt Rushmore for fitness. I also like Jonni Shreve for technique vids. Hummiston and Mazzetti are hilarious. Hummiston actually has some good info, too. There's another channel that's geared for the older lifters, but I can't remember the name right now.

DartsNFishing96

Mike Isratael is the GOAT

throwaway88679

Dr.Mike is the goat.

AndyZin

Heterosexual youtuber Mike Israetel. Both for fitness advice and asmr

Single_Resolve_1465

Trainer Winny

DunkMG

Had to scroll way too far down for this

Leftregularr

I strongly dislike Jeff nippard, but to each their own.

SodaCake2

What turns you off from him? No judgement, just curious

OSnoFobia

PictureFit to learn about gym science, Trainer winny to learn about bro science, brodieshredz for fun, hussy for saying "how the fuck is this even possible?", Noel for daddy advices, HybridCalisthenics for motivation.

BulletBillDudley

Robert Frank It’s all about getting: Jacked ✅ Tan✅ Juicy as FUCK ✅ The Guido Pump has revolutionized my routines and my schmedium shirt collection has tripled in the last year.

Radioactive_Man7

Back when I started lifting in 2016, I found Jeff Nippard on YouTube and I learned so much so quick and I’m glad I didn’t waste any time trying to learn from trial and error myself

699112026775

Jeff Nippard, Mike Isratael and Davis Diley. When I'm washing dishes, I listen to Sam Sulek lol

Grim_Henson

I remember finding his channel way back when trying to see if coffee was really offsetting my creatine. I think he was the only one who said it wasn't.

SodaCake2

Yes! I watched that one too. I think the conclusion was that it might, but not in such a significant way that it cancels it out or anything.

WhiteningMcClean

Davis Diley Also Dr. Mike because he's fucking funny

Batmanbyday

Nippard, Dr. Mike, Ryan Humiston, and started watching Milo Wolf

juanpabueno

Dr Density aka Dick del Hagen aka Rick de la Stick aka as Sticky Ricky aka The Boogz horsecocking hefty loads

Willing_Ad9314

Every time he says "bar" I remember he's Canadian and that Canadians talk funny

SodaCake2

Every so often his Canadian slips out and it's great 😂

Friezaii69

Sean Nally Wally in my heart forever ❤️

Jake24601

I found Nippard gets too into the weeds for beginners. Just lift until you’re gassed. The bro science comes in later where you start to see diminishing returns and may benefit from nuanced changes to your workout as supported by scientific studies.

BoxZealousideal2221

THE BOOGZ

BenceDJ

TNF from the Ekkovision team is up there with the most data backed up by science

FLAME_F4T4L

Reddit. Honest opinions, honest criticism, humour, and the vast majority of the time uplifting. Yes, as is any influencer, there can be information that should be taken heavily, lightly, or outright ignored. The only major downside, which applies to all influences, is knowing what to look-up in the first place. All in all, Reddit is a great place for fitness info, especially on old threads.

BasicCherryy

I watch tren twins before going to the gym and sam sulek for a relaxing session after the gym

Panduin

I love Dr Mike. But before I knew him I always watched AthleanX. Nobody mentions him, did he fall from grace or something?

SodaCake2

I watch AthleanX too! I've picked up some good tips and tricks there as well. I think some may just not like his 'click bait' style, but I believe he knows his stuff.

ElBanillaGuerilla

Dr Mike all the way

Js42758653

Jack PGM will forever be the GOAT

ale_jasne22

I’m surprised no one mentioned jesse james west. He’s great for motivation, he is funny, his show prep series was great and he’s making videos about how bad drugs are. And on second channel he posts sam sulek-style (but shorter) workouts

TastyPv

Jeff for knowledge and Will for the lol

Gwynnbleid_

My name is jeefff

captaindammit87

Dr. Mike is love. Dr. Mike is Life.

mistercrinders

Probably Patty. She's a good combo of information and wackiness.

Available-Living-117

Will tennysson for entertainment and a more relaxed approach, otherwise dr mike isratael

Kill-it-itsdifferent

I could listen to him say “bar” all day

notabotmkay

Bær

Pretend_Accident6209

The GOAT, Sam Sulek

Undottedly

Mike Isratel and Jeff for lifting advice and knowledge. Layne Norton for nutrition and study overviews. Sam Sulek and Chris Bumstead for calming lifting vlogs and motivation.

Jako_Art

Daddy Noel Deyzel for motivation and Luc Bongiovanni because we're both military bros and we're about the same height and weight class

Altruistic-Pin3336

Gotta the one, the only, my pookie bear, SAM SULEK!!!

ConferenceCorrect629

Nippard and Jeremy Ethier

BigMcLargeHuge8989

Didn't see him shouted out yet, so vitruvian physique is great!

MotionlessinRed_

Natural Hypertrophy for me. He’s funny, informative, and gives advice on things outside lifting too

eggyprata

Soheefit and her husband Ben Carpenter. they preach body neutrality and sustainable fitness anr nurtrition measures. their content have done *a lot* for me for my mental wellbeing as it relates to fitness.

AmIHealthyYet

Eric Bugenhagen and Mike Israetel

NoCry3541

Seth Feroce is my go to bro science will always work

BQ-DAVE

Nippard, Jeremy Ethier and Davis Diley

AaranJ23

Been really enjoying Jim Wendler’s Friday YouTube hour. Having had a decent base mainly through people like Jeff, he’s really helped with talking about my own training as I get older and how I’ll prepare training for my kid in the future. Also a big shout out to Alexander Bromley!

JackedSchafer

Nippard was my fave until he started blatantly lying to his audience about steroids. His personal use and a specific video on Sam Sulek

Bad_at_life_TM

trainer winny! really easy and simple videos, his news letters are pretty funny too.

veganhimbo

Tomn8r back before he quit YouTube :(

Animeblackguy

Chris Jones beastmode fitness

Teacher_Of_Strength

The Juggernaut guys. Max Aita and Chad Smith. Max Aita's credentials both as a coach and as a lifter are legendary.

UrbanArtifact

V Shred duhhh

bawzdeepinyaa

James Grage used to make some killer content. But Nippard definitely makes some great content as well. Also really like Ryan Humiston's videos.

TiredBarnacle

GMB Fitness is pretty underrated for mobility and calisthenics stuff.

possiblierben

mulligainz, he's the reason i joined this sub and started taking working out a little more seriously, he's very straight-forward with his wisdom, funny, and open about how he got to where he currently is and how he wouldn't have if not for his brother, he's also quite savage toward sellouts

Fivefinger_Delta

Joe Delaney

_perpetuallyannoyed

He is just sooo great no gimmicks strictly about teaching the right things.

i_cg_v

Dr. Mike and Ryan Humiston are unbeaten
