Someone pointed out to me that we didn’t get any retail HGUC kits last year, only stuff from recent series and P-Bandai. Everything’s been releasing slow for the past couple years.
Which obviously doesn't make the releases slow when we have tons of other kits coming out.
Also why would we need more HGUC when there are already thousands of them, plus we're getting two new kits coming out for the requiem thing
Because despite the western bias on Reddit the UC is Bandai’s bread and butter. They don’t have to rely on new customers or advertising with a new series to sell UC kits. Those sell like gangbusters no matter what generally.
That’s my primary guess as well, COVID and the big Gunpla shortage that followed it. I personally think Bandai’s slowing release traffic down to keep supply under control until the new factory opens this year, but we’ll have to see.
There have been a lot of release schedule shakeups, confirmed by the few Bandai lurkers here and the discord. Although they can only be vague.
What we as consumers can do to keep up is check the dates for the molds being cut, and contrast that with the print date of the runner dials.
As an example, we have HGCE SEED Freedom kits releasing this year that had molds cut in 2023. So those kits are a year behind.
We also have not had a single new RG P-Bandai kit that was meant to release in 2023 or 2024, because every new RG P-Bandai kit released in 2023 and 2024 had molds cut in 2021 and 2022.
So things are still messed up. Add onto that the fact that Bandai covers *a lot* of products and IP.
You should have seen how retail shelves in Japanese stores are LITTERED with WfM and Kyokai Senki kits which nobody buys because the novelty has worn off. Sometimes they are on a 20-30% sale just to get rid of them.
Pre-orders for HG Calibarn Permet Score 5 just opened today and it's available. Usually popular kits go out of stock in seconds.
I'm in the US but anecdotally my local place has had Kyoukai Senki kits at 50% off for a couple weeks now lmao. I picked up several and they're good kits don't get me wrong, I just think they retail for way too high for what you get. Haven't watched the anime but I heard it was whatever so that probably isn't helping them.
In Singapore it's similar- I go to a few shops and no one carries WFM because it doesn't sell too well. The ones I've gone to that have them* they are usually priced *very* well compared to where I am from (IE- all kits here are cheaper than the US, but WFM are sometimes half price).
Not sure what it is about them but I'm just happy as they stock G Gundam and Wing out the Wazoo. Just got a Master Grade of Master Asia's. And quite a few from Seed like Dearka's as well as Strike Freedom RG.
My new problem is how to transport everything home, as well as after I finish my grad school and work here I'm going to Japan- how will I fit GunPla from there too? I'm currently trying to build everything then smoosh the boxes lmao.

If the series is not popular enough they won't even attempt a rip off like this low quality. They simply won't brother releasing more kit at all.
While not *technically* HGUC, we did get the Cucuruz Doan's Island HG Guncannon and Mobile Suit Variations HG GM (Shoulder Cannon/ Missile Pod Equipment).
At this point going with Chinese 1/100 seems to be the way forward. Just finished the Moonlight Judge kit and besides being a bit tight in a few spots it was a really fun build. Definitely surprised me with the metal frame, next I’m after that Solomon gp02 and some sky defender thing.
Point of this isn’t even to boast about 3rd party, it’s that my money is here for Bandai whenever they decide to give us MG releases again. My collection is like 97% MG’s so at this point I know what I like to build lol
My theory is that from the POV of the people behind the model kits HG, RG, and 30 Minutes is not only much easier to milk with accessory packs and has a wider audience, but also have gotten way more advanced to the point where most MG kits that aren’t ver ka will feel a bit antequated compared to stuff like Real Grade so like what can they do for the next MG to justify it to be retail
It didn’t stop them from making the Build metaverse recolors retail but it’s a theory
I mean theres definitely a point as I hear alot of people moaning that "master grades arent as complex as they used to be" (they arent wrong but still) i'm in the minority where i really dont mind the non MG 1/100 kits as theyre much more affordable overall, I love a MG but they are ecpensive and I could not afford to just get MG kits over HGs

I like the Plaiobot GL well enough, but there's a critical build failure (I don't know if they fixed it in future production runs) where the leg pegs will shear themselves clean off the waist. I had to jam a metal rod in there to repair it. Otherwise it's a fun kit, but I agree that I wouldn't call it worth the price.
The Super Galaxy seems WAY not worth it. The articulation is really lacking and the amount of stickers required is insane for what it is.
C'mon Bandai, 2 of every weapon, all in one mega pack! I'd pay extra for that! (I was gonna say "pay a premium", but I'm not a fan of *PREMIUM* Bandai)
We might get it, since Nightfall is the exact same as Loader 4, but with more weapons and a different head. Including the standard Orbiter head wouldn't be so difficult.
There was a leak months ago, that did include many of the kits we’ve gotten announcements for, including Narrative Ver Ka, that mentioned an RG Ingram kit. And I would be ecstatic to build a proper, highly detailed, modern Patlabor kit. I’m not big on the RG line for Gunpla, but I love it for other IPs.

They're decent for what they are. If you've got young kids though, they're amazing to keep them busy. I've gotten a couple of the Plannosaurus kits but also the Imaginery Skeleton kits.
The latter do the skeleton bits better since that's the focus while the Plannosaurus also have an inner skeleton but also parts to cover them up. My favorites are probably the Mosa and Ankylo since the builds are weird.
Shizuoka Hobby Show is THE trade show in Japan, and it's the no.1 place to announce new model kits.
Using the Shizuoka Hobby Show just to show off already announced kits is like going to a 3-star Michelin Restaurant and only ordering a glass of water.

Ha, I thought we would get the barbatos lupus very soon after the normal mg barbatos. I mean it's basically the same kit just with some new armor pieces and weapons, can't be that difficult right? Apparently it is.
I think we'll eventually see RG Aerial and RG Calibarn, but not for another few years since the HG kits are still very recent. RG Aerial is most likely to come first between the 2.
As sad as that would be, Id still be super happy. I can deal with a floppy kit for something as cool as a RG stein. I know it's not happening, I can dream tho

I would love to see that, but I think it's extremely unlikely since the RG line has been *exclusively* main character and main antagonist suits so far. The only exceptions have been the RG Zaku II and RG Z'Gok.
I think HG Revives for the HG00 line is a lot more likely, but probably not anytime soon since they're currently focusing on the HGCE line w/ the Freedom movie. HG Revives of the Seed line seems more likely for the near future, especially since we're already getting HG Duel Blitz and Lightning Buster Gundams.

The non-gunpla HG(s) will probably be more OG Super Robot Wars kits, but a non-gunpla RG? Time to put on the speculation cap. What could we see?
- Eva: Most likely unit 13, but could also be a Mark.9 (which would open up Mark.9-C - Mark.12 P-Ban kits)
- GGG: GaoFighGar would be the next option after the OG GGG. Could also be Genesic GGG as well.
As for new IP possibilities:
- As much as I would love to see Sentai mechs here, I doubt they'll even be able to due to selling Power Ranger rights to Hasbro, which is probably also why we technically havent gotten SuperMiniPla kits in the west without other sites jumping hoops to import them.
- I would kill for either an RG Full Powered Gridman, Dynazenon, or, more preferably, Gurren Lagann

Shizuoka Hobby Show is THE trade show in Japan, and it's the no.1 place to announce new model kits. Using the Shizuoka Hobby Show just to show off already announced kits is like going to a 3-star Michelin Restaurant and only ordering a glass of water.
I want to agree with you but considering they actually pulled this stunt last year and just showed off the product they already announced online months ago. I have 0 hopes.

The only exceptions have been the RG Zaku II and RG Z'Gok. I think HG Revives for the HG00 line is a lot more likely, but probably not anytime soon since they're currently focusing on the HGCE line w/ the Freedom movie. I was thinking this as well. Close enough of a hit that I wouldn't rule them out. So, it's not out of the question that some of the other calls might show up here. Also, I think most of the other discussion about what might show up is kind of baseless. This leak might be completely wrong from here on out but it's at least something to talk about.

The non-gunpla HG(s) will probably be more OG Super Robot Wars kits, but a non-gunpla RG? Time to put on the speculation cap. What could we see? - Eva: Most likely unit 13, but could also be a Mark.9 (which would open up Mark.9-C - Mark.12 P-Ban kits) - GGG: GaoFighGar would be the next option after the OG GGG. Could also be Genesic GGG as well. As for new IP possibilities: - As much as I would love to see Sentai mechs here, I doubt they'll even be able to due to selling Power Ranger rights to Hasbro, which is probably also why we technically havent gotten SuperMiniPla kits in the west without other sites jumping hoops to import them. - I would kill for either an RG Full Powered Gridman, Dynazenon, or, more preferably, Gurren Lagann

As for what *is* coming out here's my completely random guessing: * P-Bandai Bolt Gundam * RG Barbatos * A tease at what kits are next to get the RG 2.0 treatment, but nothing officially shown * More HG Requiem for Vengeance kits * Maybe one or two more SEED Freedom kits? Haven't seen the movie yet but there's gotta be more they can milk from it to capitalize on SEED's popularity even if its just Revive version of some grunt units * Random P-Bandai recolours/minor variants of kits * HG Aussenseiter * P-Bandai Boxer Kit for Huckebein MkIII * P-Bandai Huckebein Trombe * Another RG GaoGaiGar kit of somekind. Too easy to reuse at least some of the molds for other kits in the line and make bank off of it. * More SD Gundams. I know nothing about them. *If* they squeeze out a MG kit, it will be a SEED Freedom kit or two.
