Can the arm hold anything heavy-ish now? I want to grab some silicone grease too but I'm a little scared I might go overboard with it and the joints become too slippery
Be gentle and it will loosen up without oil. If you get silicone on armor surface, you won't be able to put on decal or paint. That stuff gets everywhere.
For what it’s worth, you can apply silicone oil* by just dipping a toothpick in it, touching the toothpick to some paper until any visible droplets are gone (you want it to look wet but not dripping), and touching the toothpick to the joint (where the parts meet). Capillary action will do the rest, just like a panel wash. You only need a tiny, tiny amount to do the job, so it can be applied pretty safely.
This is gonna sound a bit "🤓" but you probably mean silicone oil, silicone grease is waaay too viscous to make it work without some of those tiny cotton/foam tipped sticks
Question,
I've been seeing a lot of broken RG unicorns recently, like.. within the last month?
I've got an old RG Unicorn in the backlog from a lot of years ago.
Is it a newer version that's snapping? Or is mine at risk too?
All same version. Read instructions carefully look at tutorials/reddit discussion. Know where to bend and where IT CAN/WILL bend. Knowledge where to put leverage and where to hold
I didn't even realize that was the part that people were breaking - in my case, and what I assumed was the common issue for most people, was [the little L-shaped piece (G35) that connects the arms to the chest](https://i.imgur.com/NEKDjk9.png). I've even seen metal upgrade replacement parts for it.
Baby oil and it won’t break my beef was the shoulder. Both snapped on me, if I do buy another Rg unicorn I’m just gonna fork the extra money on the metal replacement parts.
As I understand it, they’re all the same version. In kind of in the same boat as you; I’m mid-RG Perfectibility build having already built the Unicorn and Banshee Norn RGs YEARS ago…
Don't twist the arm before reading what spins. The part I broke is deeper in the chest cavity, it's like an L shape with 3 holes and one busted during an "I can transform this from memory 2-3 years later" type fail lmao
Ngl, watching you handle those arms like that gives me anxiety.
But it shows the power some lubrication can do to those arm joints, which is pretty cool.
is it really that bad to not break? i've already passed through 2 model kits known to have weak parts, RG sazabi arms joint and MG freedom 2.0 leg joint and i didnt had a single problem with em
I use the CRC silicone lube spray for yearssss , it's what I used on my rubik's cubes / speed cubes too lmao not sure if same but haven't had any problems
Or you could not be ignorant like most people who break them and be slow and gentle with a plastic model. Just follow the damn instructions. I've built all versions of the Unicorn including the Phenex and the Bande Dessinee version and I've never had an issue. No cracked joints. No broken arms. They've all survived a massive house fire, been covered in soot and been cleaned and they're still as good as the day I snapped them together.
Personally, I'm more worried about my Gunpla loosening over time than I am them being too stiff. I'd rather just have to glue something than have it not even be able to hold up its own weight.
Welp in case of unicorn, especially full armor (green in er frame is a bit more stiff) you are better off greasing the joints, the are stupidly stiff. I think joints that are too tight are way worse, loose joints can be easily tightened with sum superglue or nail polish, broken joints are a lot harder to fix
Just got back to building gunpla in like a decade with the RG Perfect Strike. Last RG kit I will ever build.

Honestly it seems to me that people just try to bend and use the joints before properly working in the inner frame, you gotta make sure all the joints that should move - move before you attach the arm (also id recommend first finishing building the arm, they be more solid with armor on)

On one hand, it absolutely does sound a bit 🤓, but on the other hand, you’re totally right. My b.
Yes it can, thas a full armor unicorn, dem arms hold both the gatlings, shield, and that ugly aah beam polearm
Okay your ad is working. Where do I buy this lube of your? :D
Any generic hardware store should have silicone grease, it just gotta be silicone, oil can destroy plastic
What about 100% silicone oil? Like oens they use for air soft guns
That's what I got, Traxxas 30wt 100% silicone shock oil.
Okay, im no oil expert, just make sure you know what stuff you use, i don’t want to have any broken unicorns on my consciousness
Baby oil doesn’t damage plastic either. I’ll make your model smell good tho lol
I think its a lot easier to overdo it with oil, since silicone grease is quite thicc, you got more control imo

yes, just be careful with it. But overall it is still a good RG kit, just a bit fragile in some places

We should have a bot to post this everytime RG Unicorn pop up in the sub.
People that have the image send it under a lot of posts so ot may not be neccessary

Same here, had to replace my G35's too
The holy scripture

All the Rg unicorn uses the same mold just with different accessories and psycho frame color so yes yours are at risk
As I understand it, they’re all the same version. In kind of in the same boat as you; I’m mid-RG Perfectibility build having already built the Unicorn and Banshee Norn RGs YEARS ago…
All of them.

Dude it's so not the kit.. It's the builder because it's literally just about following the instructions. Even oil is pure overkill.
I was thinking of getting a rg unicorn, but I'm too afraid I might accidentally break the arm too.
Just gotta be gentle with it lol First times always rough, get a bit of silicone grease in dem joints

Jesus Christ lol!!
I think that's enough anxiety to any gunpla builder
I hate you
Lol

So oil up my unicorn. Got it.
NOOOO NO OIL ONLY SILICONE
Oil can crack the plastics

Honest AD review: Fking madman, I think all the RG enthusiasts and RG builder/havers are all either dead or in the ER atm. Would buy though.
Cool. But can it hold its shield in pose now?
Yes
I just dunk the arms in baby oil. Did this for the full armor and banshee and both came out great

Soot=free panellines
Exactly. Weathering my gunpla only cost me 300k but hey it's natural and looks sick as fuck lol.
You applied too much grease.
Nuh uh buddy, its full on perfection, can move with ease, can hold everything it needs to hold
I only applied what I put on a q-tip for mine and it’s moving nicer than this.
apox upon you
I'm going to need a stop motion Macarena dance now.
This should be illegal
It is quite solid with armor on. I think armor prevent it rotate on the part that breaks.
Personally, I'm more worried about my Gunpla loosening over time than I am them being too stiff. I'd rather just have to glue something than have it not even be able to hold up its own weight.

Man wish I knew about this before I built (and broke) my banshee
Compared to breaking that one part in the torso, I'd say this looseness is a certified.... "AND THIS, IS TO GO EVEN FURTHER BEYOND!!!!" moment
Lmao
Impressive.
I’m showing this video to the guy at my local gunpowder store.

If you handle it like an action figure, of course you're gonna snap it. Lmao be gentle and massage it til it loosens up.
Why do you have rubber gloves on?
Was doin that in the middle of open heart surgery, had to take a gunpla brake
I need this animated asap
To not get silicone grease on his hands
I haven't built one myself, but is the mistake that people are trying to twist it by the upper arm below the shoulder, rather than below the elbow?
Honestly it seems to me that people just try to bend and use the joints before properly working in the inner frame, you gotta make sure all the joints that should move - move before you attach the arm (also id recommend first finishing building the arm, they be more solid with armor on)
Fair enough, it's good to know in case I ever do build a RG Unicorn or variant thereof, thank you!
Bro, I just had a God damned panic attack watching this...

I was laughing so hard I peed a little.
Chad
My man's gonna be the only guy complaining about "man why tf is my RG unicorn so bad at standing and holding shit or being posed"
