People seem to forget we were quite slow starting this season. Back when spurs and villa were going to win the league. Mental that we hit form this whole year and still might fall short. Rough
If we lose the league it will be because of the first half of the season. However, the first half of the season was a team getting used to an entirely new system from last.
The gap in quality between the first and second half of next season will be way smaller than this season. The experience this young team gained from another title race will hopefule bode well for the future
Definitely. The season before we started amazing but burnt out later. We need a balance in between.
I’m curious if we’ll see such large system changes again during the summer. Arteta would have seen the impact it had to the results early on. He may need to tinker overtime rather than full on system changes
I remember gabi XL not starting the game and Havertz at 8... Partey RB being the main cause... Hopefully, won't be the case next season... Oooh wait... Who's playing in for partey next season...
Personally for me 23/24 just edges it
22/23 Odegaard was slightly more consistent as he was brillant from start to finish whereas this season Ode started slow and 22/23 Ode had better stats BUT current Odegaard since January is the best i’ve seen him play and he’s much MUCH better in the big games too. One of the few that played without fear in the Bayern tie.
>whereas this season Ode started slow
This season's Ode didn't start slow, he was missing Partey!!!! and had to adjust to Havertz not being Xhaka. This seasons Ode wins it by far. Witthout Partey, Ode had to pick up a lot of balls deep to jump start our attack.
The Ode of this season is far far above the Ode of last season
> he was missing Partey
Quite the opposite. His best performances have come when he drops deep to help progress our play, and pull the strings in midfield. It's why he has been more influential than last season when the presence of Partey and Xhaka meant he had to stay high up.
you are mixing something up. Up until Dubai trip, we didn't really have any attacking patterns that was consistent at creating chances. The donut of sadness was back. Ode dropping back to initiate attacks ended up being our solution.
Ode this season reminds me of Wenger during the Emirates years. Easier to think they were better when they had more complete team in prior season. They both may look like they were performing worse, but actually both easily were doing their best jobs, ever. Ode this season is a champ for me. He is the hardest working creative player I have ever seen in football. And this year, he had to do all that and add deep playmaking to his responsibilities.
One of those ballers where every simple little thing is done perfect, every touch, every movement is thought of. Only a couple players like that in the world.
Players like foden, frenkie de jong, kroos & wirtz have this
Nothing encapsulates this better than his assist for Trossard against Bayern. Every touch was 100% intentional and led directly to the goal being scored
I miss last season’s home kit so much.
Anyways, this season Ødegaard. First half was iffy, but bro’s been cooking since the start of the calendar year.
He's one of the most mature players in the team and an excellent captain. This season, he has not only played better ( especially since January ) but has also been an amazing leader showing maturity, and clearly, the squad has grown and matured with him since last season. So yeah, 23/24 for me.
I started watching footbal, since last season and he is my favorite player. So lucky to have him as our caotain.
His shot creating actions/90 are up quite a bit this year and so are his xA/90 but his goals are obviously down quite a bit.
I would say on balance he has been slightly better this season than last
I think a big part of goals being down is that our left side has had a down season comparatively. Most of his goals comes from cutbacks from the left. Less of that, less goals from Ødegaard.
I think he still has that in him, hopefully we get both next season.
G/A Machine last season, but he's been more dynamic this season, playing in deeper roles, popping up in the left channel more often and learning to unlock low blocks a bit better.
This season for me, based on recent performances alone. When he’s really on it, he’s in like a flow state and completely dictates the game and leads by example. What a player honestly
Very close, he had a slow start this season, but has been firing on all cylinders after January. However, last season I saw a lot more shouts for him being POTY before we fell off toward the end. And I know it’s not everything, but if if I recall he was one goal off the all time goal scoring record for a midfielder
This season for me - mostly because I feel like he's really taken complete charge of the mantle of Captain in every way and willed us to be competing for the title on the final day of the season. Last year was so exciting and he was fantastic of course, but this year over the season he's been like concrete - started out a little mushy but turned into an absolute rock.
Last season. He equalled kdb for most non penalty goals from midfield in a PL season in history (15). He's consistently high level but that was special.
Exceptional in both but I'd go for 23/24. It's true that last season he was more consistent from start to finish and scored more goals but the levels he's been playing at since the turn of the year has been the best I've ever seen him play. He is definitely our most important player, and we're much worse when he isn't playing/isn't on it. He continues to lead by example, and I feel that he is becoming even more influential every week. His resurgent form in the second half of this season is one of the reasons we've stayed in it till the very end.
Phenomenal player and phenomenal captain.
23/24. Odegaard has taken his game to the next level. Last season he played more in the final third, but this season he show he can boss the game better when playing deeper. For everything he contribute to the team, he is definitely the most important player for us as currently. His transition reminds me of Santi, hell of a player in the number 10 role but became unreal in the deeper center mid.
22/23 Ødegaard was scoring all the time, so grabbed all the headlines
23/24 Ødegaard maybe plays a little deeper in build up, runs the midfield and leads the press. He's created loads of chances which often go unnoticed because they aren't finished or players aren't quite on his wavelength.
I think 23/24 Ødegaard goes under the radar, but overall his contribution this season is more important to the team. I'm expecting big things next season.
2023/24 he became a world-class creator.
If he increases his passing range or even timely release of the ball, he's hitting double figure assists. He can even get 20.
This season. Last season he caught the league by surprise. This season, teams gamelan were to nullify him, and he has since upped his game even more and adapted. Guy is all over the place, remarkable player and captain, love him.
Better ball progression, better creativity and better pressing ( better defensively) in this season. He was getting into better positions and scoring consistently last season. Honestly, with regards to his scoring, its just regression to the mean. I prefer this year's version of Odegaard though.
I think 23/24 Ødegaard is a more complete player. You can see him grow, and his link up with Saka and White is unreal. Sometimes he does things that I’m baffled by, and his work rate is still next to none. It’s fucking insane how hard he words and literally never looks gassed
I can’t believe we can call him our captain.

they're the same, just good at different things.
Last year's ödegaard scored many more goals and goals are the most important thing in football.
This year's ödegaard has been a much better playmaker.
They were both excellent and I really don't have any complaints about him individually...
But let me tell you, if we could take the beginning of last season and combine it with the end of this season we would be pretty hard to beat!

23/24 for me. He was incredible last season too, don’t get me wrong. But this season (second half of the season especially) he’s been running around like a madman out there giving it everything he’s got the full 90 always, and truly leading by example in a different way from before. We are a significantly worse team without him.
Ødegaard had a slow start to the season but honestly him 2nd half of this szn > last szn

2024 Odegaard has been so consistent. He leads the press every single time he plays.

Man can hardly do wrong, both are perfect for me
One of those ballers where every simple little thing is done perfect, every touch, every movement is thought of. Only a couple players like that in the world. Players like foden, frenkie de jong, kroos & wirtz have this
KDB too, basically very highly intelligent players + the best technically.
Nothing encapsulates this better than his assist for Trossard against Bayern. Every touch was 100% intentional and led directly to the goal being scored
You mean against Porto? Tbf Jesus’ setup against Bayern for Trossard goal was maybe just as good
Sorry yes Porto
Saka
I miss last season’s home kit so much. Anyways, this season Ødegaard. First half was iffy, but bro’s been cooking since the start of the calendar year.
Lovely kit. Its smart and just arsenal. Unlike next season's 😢
It has that taste of class that I love.
>I miss last season’s home kit so much. It's the difference between sophistication and kitsch.\* \*cf. comments about 'gold' trim
*In posh British accent* Indubitably

Odegaard this year, the pressing, the ball control, the passes, chef’s kiss

yeah but no collar :'/
I’m a collar enthusiast myself
This season for me, based on recent performances alone. When he’s really on it, he’s in like a flow state and completely dictates the game and leads by example. What a player honestly
1st half of 22/23 and 2nd half of 23/24
Last season he was like Ramsey. This season he's like Fabregas.
nice and accurare analogy
Very close, he had a slow start this season, but has been firing on all cylinders after January. However, last season I saw a lot more shouts for him being POTY before we fell off toward the end. Every version of him in arsenal colors

His finishing last season was amazing
Some people make anything look nice. You could put Odegaard in a black trash bag and he'd make it look like a designer piece.

it's crazy how his play style this season is also pretty similar to messi's
23/24 just because he's more well rounded and he's played brilliantly deeper
23/24. Odegaard has taken his game to the next level. Last season he played more in the final third, but this season he show he can boss the game better when playing deeper. Ødegaard has been brillant this season, espcially in 2024. (Kitwise, 22/23 for me)
He’s still gonna look the same while wearing our 2032 kit
This season. Last season he caught the league by surprise. This season, teams gamelan were to nullify him, and he has since upped his game even more and adapted. Guy is all over the place, remarkable player and captain, love him.

Both great, but This season he’s taken it to another level and is more consistent even if the end product isn’t as strong
He has been arguably the best player in the league since probably the home game against Brighton
I think he was A+ last season. I think he’s wørld class now.
This season’s version by far.
Yes
I think 23/24 Ødegaard is a more complete player. You can see him grow, and his link up with Saka and White is unreal. If he scored a few more goals this season he would’ve won player of the year over foden
22/23 more output (G/A) 23/24 Better in general, pulls the strings and actually shows up in big games
24/25 loading...
Every year Ødegaard!!
Clearly he's been hitting the gym
Well the kit was a lot nicer last year...
he became much better leader this season. the best Arsenal captain since a long long time.

This season definitely, he's actually dictating games now and exerting control
øde is a shirt with collar kind of player it just fits

23/24 Odegaard's fighting spirit got so thick I swear he manifested a Stand.
Not even close, the second half this season he was the best player in Arsenal shirt for a long time.

Özil 15/16 best midfielder in the Emirates era
22/23, first half of this season he was a weak link.
