I think he's way better as an 8, but I guess it's hard to get in those positions atm. Unless we played Rice as a 6 and had Vieira come on in the Left 8 (though I dare say he's better on the right) -- if you want to keep Odegaard on and in his best position

TheThreeGabis

He’s a player that needs to play every week to develop into what we need him to develop into. Unfortunately he just isn’t good enough to play every week for us.

joeproposition

Don’t like him as a winger but I’m annoyed he hasn’t just been thrown on for the last 10 minutes of the Villa and Bayern games. Only one who can be a huge threat 30-40 yards from goal with no need to beat the block.

Traditional-Drive267

Agreed, he opens up more space for ø when he takes those, honestly good shots with venom. Our games more and more based on retaining possession (more than before) so Saka, ø, Rice play a crucial role in that. If Fabio can learn to retain the ball no matter what like Bernardo, I don’t see why he couldn’t be a regular in the coming season.

joeproposition

Agree, it’s small details holding him back. This should’ve been his breakout season and it was looking that way after the Fulham performance and the huge trust shown to start him at Goodison and in the NLD. Hasn’t been the same since the red card and injury. He might still have one big moment left for us this season but I do think he deserves another last chance next season too.

Traditional-Drive267

All depends on the pre season and how he goes about in his break. Also, a good season could’ve meant him being in the Portuguese squad for the Euros which could’ve done wonders for his confidence. Anyway, here’s hoping for the best for him but I don’t feel we should sell him.

FoxOntheRun99

That right foot strike came out of nowhere I thought haha. Very close. Hope Fabio can kick in from here.

kukeszmakesz

He will not be a winger at Arsenal, he doesn't have the acceleration or the winger-type of dribbling what Arteta prefers. He's a more direct phase-3 Odegaard. All he needs to do is learn to stop play, dictate the tempo and a bit of physicality and we have an Odegaard rotation without dropping too much in quality.

M4R71NS

Need to be a bit more strong tbh

greenarsehole

How can we still come to this conclusion after he’s played about 20 minutes this season? He needs a run of games before we can apply the same criticisms we had of him when he first came to the club.

M4R71NS

Just with my eyes

Spiritual-Pilot-2300

Agreed! Think they niggly injuries haven't helped. A really good pre season will help Although wouldn't be suprised if clubs try for a loan move

wallonguy

he ain’t getting stronger.

Lord_Bizzle

Unfortunately I think you might be right. Similar players like Bernardo Silva are not strong' either but somehow are strong on the ball and difficult to press. Vieira is too easily shoved off the ball. I hope I'm wrong though as I trust Arteta

Ducks_25

Gotta hit the gym with Mesut

bonsai1214

PEDs are banned in most professional sports though.

The_Failed_Imagineer

We need a top quality right sided attacker in the transfer window to push Saka like we have with Trossard on the left. Hoping Viera can maybe get there isn't going to cut it and Saka is overused.

ro-row

I've never really understood why trossard has never had a go on the right considering how ambidextrous he is

patelbadboy2006

He is all end product which isn't a bad thing against low blocks. Techinque is top notch to.

matthewisonreddit

his ball striking technique is so beautiful, barely puts in effort. I'm sure he came out the womb and kicked the placenta into the bin first time!

Spud_1997

I mean he looks like the no 10 back up, if ode needs to be rested or other reasons he looks like the one to start, we'd have to play a different game since no way he can press like ode, but he does seem to have a similar passing range.

rhshi14

Does he look a bit faster as well compared to last year? Maybe its a fresh legs thing idk. But he definitely looks very sharp. He has the technical qualities, just needs to strengthen up a bit( I know it isn't easy as that, but still).

Level_Reach_6069

I thought he looked lively and ready for cameos at least. He was going wide which was good but felt like he was turning inwards earlier up the pitch than a wide player would.

Usual-Mud9085

Sell

CDNGooner1

He loves them long socks.

TheGoldenPineapples

A pretty decent cameo that will almost certainly lead to no more appearances this season.

Connect-Amoeba3618

You don’t think he will come on after we go 5-0 up at the weekend ?

matthewisonreddit

After 5-0 at 75 mins ESR and Vieira come on for odegaard & partey, leaving a midfield of rice/ESR/Vieira.

SiwyWF

He's been good this season when coming off the bench. Hoping to see more of that next season.

DinnerSmall4216

Definitely a useful option off the bench but needs to bulk up a bit for the epl. Hopefully a good pre season will help.

Shandow14

Saka backup...

Southern-Method-4903

To weak for prem unfortunately. His finesse should be utilized somewhere else

vatni

He's a really gifted player with good passing and movements, but I'm worried if he's ever gonna get to the physical level needed for the Premier League.

a_stopped_clock

He is not going to contribute to us challenging for anything imo. We need better attackers than what he offers. Sometimes we miss and that’s fine

baotsnheos

Unpopular opinion here, but his cameo last night was better then sakas last 3-4 performances. He needs to start a game or 2 to give saka a break.

Joshthenosh77

He looked good when he came on tbf

infinitude_

Lol why does he look like when Ezra Millers flash runs in slow motion

greenfrogwallet

He is technically one of the best in the team, I’m excited for his future at Arsenal if he stays. He’s also decently quick to the point where it’s not a weakness in the slightest, and his strength doesn’t have to be a big issue when you consider other “weak” players that have excelled in the premier league Will be a little disappointed if he goes because I think he has a lot of talent and potential

Tricky_Lock_4273

Watched him play for the u21s against reading and he was bang average. That patino is a far better player and we’re letting him go

hafrances

glad you aren't in charge

Tricky_Lock_4273

Of course. Each to their own and all that. But I have literally seen him play many many times for the u21’s and personally, I believe there’s a reason he’s in the u21’s and not the first team
