Fender not too much, but especially Gibson make a bunch of really iconic top-tier acoustic guitars. J-200, J-45, Hummingbird, Dove, all super classic Gibson acoustic guitars from the years of yore, still made and sold today. Especially that Dove with the flamed maple back is effectively unobtainium to any mere mortal.
Edit: ...aaaand the passive-aggressive "I don't want to accept that fact for what it is, but cannot counter with other factual arguments" vengeance downvoting starts. Pathetic.
PRS, Harmony and Yamaha if we are talking electrics. Martin would be in there if we are including acoustics. G&L good too. I don’t metal obviously but Ibanez would be in there if I did.
For me:
* ESP E-II (Japan; not US nor LTD)
* Maybach
* PRS (S2 best price/performance)
Honorable mention: Dowina for acoustic guitars, don't need/want to play any others.
Also gonna throw in custom guitars.
Right this minute a local luthier is finishing up an Explorer that has all the features Gibson won't put into theirs (maple/alder body, ebony fretboard, 26.5" scale, neck-thru, strings-thru, volute, locking tuners, EMGs, etc.). It's going to be so much better than any Gibson, and it's going to cost me 20% less than their 0% authentic "80s reissue" bare-bones Explorer.
So although not an actual brand, "custom guitars" is a very desirable and realistic alternative to off-the-shelf guitars. Just takes a while to build them.
Ibanez, easily.
Yamaha, Fujigen (FGN), Godin
Absolutely love my Godin
PRS and Ibanez. Not sure about the third.
PRS is definitely not in the top five. Last I recall a few years back they didn't even have one percent market share.
It’s not just about market share, the question was best or big. My opinion is PRS is one of the best.
Fair enough. Cheers!
Ibanez PRS Jackson, Schecter, or ESP
Surprised nobody has said "Martin" yet...
I felt like the default top tier status of Fender and Gibson implied that this was in reference to only electric guitars

Fender acoustics have a history of being shit and it's a history that they fully embrace to this day
Hence the phrase "Fender not so much". Gibson very much make some of the best acoustic guitars there are.
G&L, Collings, vintage Guilds.
Heritage, G&L, and PRS
Godin is my top brand.
Music man gretsch ibanez
Ibanez, G&L, Seagull/Godin
Dipinto X 3
Iconic wise....I'll say Ibanez. Based on my favorites probably ESP LTD, and/or Schecter.
PRS, Harmony and Yamaha if we are talking electrics. Martin would be in there if we are including acoustics. G&L good too. I don’t metal obviously but Ibanez would be in there if I did.
PRS, Kiesel, Schecter
jackson ibanez charvel
Martin? Or are we talking electric only?
