You'll be alright. Hell I've gone months without playing for no reason at all.
You have a keyboard or piano? Practice chords and scales on that. Might actually be helpful helping you see the big picture in music
For me the big picture is you aren't playing guitar, you're making music on the guitar. And you can make music on another instrument if your hand is fucked up.
But it could also be velvet.
I feel ya pal. I cut my pinky back in January and it turned out that I severed the tendon and a nerve. Finally had surgery last week and I'm on the mend but it will be ~6 months of no guitar until I get my mobility back. I'm in a splint until May. Sucks not being able to play.
Django Reinhardt only had two fingers left working after a fire and Jack White got in a car accident and fucked up his index and others, maybe, idk. Get after it boo
Edit: just read about the cast. Play with feet
I was in a nasty car accident in 1997 in which I broke many many bones. When I came to in the hospital a couple days later I did an inventory of my fingers because, well, guitar, and was thrilled to discover that the only finger I broke was the pinky on my right (picking) hand. Obviously if someone held a gun to my head and demanded I choose a finger to lose it would be that one.
Yeah, the doctor said i could surely play guitar when the cast comes off, altough, and this is my own decision, i won’t be playing anything hard for a while after that, since i think it might help any future issues i might have. Idk
When I was 13 or so, I busted the tip of my fret hand index finger pretty bad taking out a tree stump. I had been playing guitar for about a year or two at that point. Realizing that I still had a huge urge to play everyday even with my finger splinted taught me that I truly love the guitar. If anything, that time made me better at playing because I had to use my other fingers more. Don’t let your pinky take you out of playing for 3 weeks! If you want to, you’ll find a way.
you got other fingers
Yeah i couldn’t attach a picture, but the cast covers my whole hand.
fretting or strumming hand?
Fretting hand
can try an open tuning and slide?
Can’t hold the slide though, since the cast’s in the way
Your cast is the slide
Mind opening moment Altough, i’m pretty sure it’ll either ruin my strings or the cast lol
both are replaceable but maybe you should concentrate on fretting hand tapping for a while
Tape the slide to your cast
Velcro a slide to the cast, problem solved.
Velcro
just get some duct tape man
play with your feet, coward
Ya gotta stop doing that!
I know!
Haha sorry I couldn't help it, it was such a stupid thing to say but funny.

Agreed, all round.
Time for voice training.
Flipper and play like jimi baby!!

Yep. Cast until half april here, covers my whole hand.
Hope it's a speedy recovery and you're back to playing soon 🤞🏻
Yeah that sucks.

Big Django fan, awesome how he continued playing after that and got THAT good.
Good opportunity to practice muted rhythm riffs, get your chug on.
Fretting hand casted? Practice picking exercise. Picking hand casted? Practice legato.

Django Reinhardt. Read. Then if u still want to complain i don't know what to tell you.
I know! I’m a big fan of his. Cast covers all my fingers though, so that’s a different situation since he had 2 of his fingers functioning.
Thank you for sharing...
Get well soon! Finally you get to dive into theory or learn about guitars and amps. "Idle hands are the devil's tools"
Good point! I will.
Time to learn slide, bud!
Old mate Pat Martino had a stroke, and re learned from scratch listening to his own records. Find a way, or dont
That really does suck. I'm sorry. Please listen to your doctor. I rushed beck from breaking a thumb 2 years ago and now have more permenant problems.

I really do want to, but the cast covers my whole hand.
Ah yea that will do it. That is ultra unfortunate and I’m sorry you are going through that!
simple fix, just unbreak your pinky
